I think its a bit funny that people are refering to MOC ponies as holy things, and that they are as valuable as fine art or something....Thats going a bit to far I think...I mean holy? Come on!

If I open mine its my choice. I wont feel bad for doing it, and if it makes someone else feel bad, tough. I PAID for them. They are MINE. Its legal for me to do with them as I want to. I agree with what someone else said; I wont change doing something because others want it done a differant way.

Besides, I have tried to sell them before, and noone wants em. If noone even wants them MOC, why keep em on it?

So you'd spend beaucoup cash just to reduce something to a value of 10 dollars?

I don't know what you've been trying to sell or to who, but I know plenty of people who like MOC ponies.

I'm a purist...

I've only (since I was little, that is) opened the G3's and ONE G2 that was a double, one of the US commons at that.

I could NEVER open a G1 pony MOC/MIB. I could open playsets, though. That's different, IMO, because there are SO many pieces that you have to collect to get them complete I'll never have the patience :)

Merry Treats

eep I had completely forgotten! I'll bring them in tomorrow and try to go through em for ya :) I know I had a couple smokey ones from your want list.

thanks for reminding me!

I opened MIB Goldilocks and Baby Stockings when I first started collecting. Not really that big of a deal since they are fairly common MIB. I'm glad I did, I was able to get that out of my system!

I don't think I could take a pony off a card unless it was severly damaged or the pony was in danger of molding. I really love the cards and their artwork. I bought my Greek Firefly just so I could have the MLP art with the greek lettering.

With the new G3's there are plenty of ponies to tear out of their package - of course it takes 20 times longer to try and chisel them from their plastic tomb...

Ive offered them for less then what I paid before to people saying they were seeking EVERY pony MOC. As soon as I offered them, it was no, we dont like em. Ive put them everywhere but e bay. I dont have a selers account and cant get one due to no credit card or checking account.

Im not talking about opening a MIP Punzie here. But if soemone wanted to, it would be THEIR choice and none of your business. Would reduce her to what? 500 anyways? =P

$500 is a lot, but if sh's MIP i'm pretty sure you can get double that amount. It's still a huge decrees(sp?) in the value. No mater if they are worth a lot loose or not it will still be more valuble on a card/in a package.
So like MT said, why buy something for that much money just to lower the value that much?
PS: If you have MOC's you are trying to sell just PM me =P

About the MIB G3's. I don't see any harm in opening them. I do keep the most I get MIB though. You never know.
But opening a MIB G3 now is not really the same thing. They are still in production (most of them) and aren't "collectibles" with high value yet. Except maybe the winter series.
So yeah, I do open them when I get 2 without feeling guilty at all.
There's a difference with the G1's though IMO.

This is why I don't buy MOC ponies if I can help it. I prefer them loose, so I can display them on shelves and brush their manes and tails, style their hair, etc. I don't collect ponies because they're valuable. I collect them because they're fun. I can certainly understand that many would collect them because of their value, and would prefer to have them MOC. Different strokes for different folks, right? ;)

The values of ponies are completely irrelevant to me, as I never plan to sell my collection. So, I don't care if they are MOC (and actually prefer that they NOT be MOC). But, if I was going to sell and trade ponies, or if I was looking at them like an investment, I'd probably want MOC whenever possible. I can understand all sides here, and I don't think anyone's right or wrong. Everyone should do what makes them happy when it comes to their ponies. :D

I know they are not a Monet painting.
But they are collectibles with high value. And as a collector I tresure the collectible.

Couldn't agree more.

I suppose I'm so against it, because I can't understand it!It's not that I think you as people are stupid or anything like that - I just 'can't' understand! I mean, why decard, say, a Firefly, when you can find a beautifully mint one without hardly looking? But I do know that most ponies who are decarded are fairly common ones, but I still don't quite get the need to open them!

I wish I would have kept some of mine MOC when I was little, I tried but, meh...too painful.

The ONLY reason I opened a MOC was because of the quality and condition of the packaging. It was Argie FT Baby Moondancer. The plastic cover was practically coming off. However, I'm guessing that it was possibly because the pachaging at certain time became damp with humidity and what not. The ink from the packaging stained the accessories as well as the pony. Her symbols also bled out into the plastic. Oh yeah, she smelled horrible, moldy-ish. Not too bad now.

I once opened a MIP mail order Napper. *grins nervously* I just couldn't resist. I felt a little guilty, but now I have the opening of MOCs out of my system - now I just sell them and get a couple minty ponies!

I've opened....

2 MOC French SS (WOW! To the fuzziness! WOW!)
MOC Italian Posey
MOC Baby Schooltime
NRFB Spanish Stable
NRFB Spanish Rockabye bed
NRFB Spanish Pretty Parlor
NRFB Spanish Crib
NRFB Spanish School
NRFB Spanish Perfume Puff
NRFB German Kitchen

I think that's it.

PM'ed you Midnight Rainbow! I love my MOCs, though I am not a big fan of MIB, so I try avoid them.

Totally agree on all counts. :)

And yes, it decreases the value. But again, that's my problem, isn't it?

I appreciate that some people feel that MOC/MIBs are a part of history...and honestly, they are, but I prefer my ponies loose. So I buy loose ponies. Simple and everyone's happy.

In some of the other collector communities, people don't understand the value of MIBs. I very rarely see people keep even highly conveted Breyers MIB, and that doesn't really effect the value. *shrug*

I am tempted to open my MOCs a lot of the time (especially my Greek Moondancer - she's gorgeous!), but the only one I ever opened was an SS Scrumptious. Her card was badly bent and her bubble was coming off, so I freed her (and managed to rip her otherwise mint leaflet in the process! Gah! :x).
I have to admit it felt good, but now I'm paranoid about displaying her as her hair would be easy to mess up and her beautiful whiteness might get dingy. She's not actually mint anyway, as she has a dent in one of her legs. :p But I don't want her to be ruined any more than that!

I just get sick of the flip-flop argument.

"They're only toys, I can open them if I want"

and then 20 minutes later in another thread

"THEY AREN'T TOYS, THEY'RE COLLECTABLES"

Pick one.
