Have you ever opend a MOC/MIP/MIB?

I DO NOT want to start a flame war.
We all know that we all have different opinions on weather you should open a MOC/MIP/MIB pony or not. Some think it's ok, some doesn't. We know.


What I'm wondering is if you ever opend a MOC/MIP/MIB G1 (after they stopped producing them offcourse - after they became collictibles)

I personlay think it's worng but have to admit that I did open a MIP TAF Baby Up, Up & Away once and probably my Baby Stockings as well.
It was back in the days when I was young and new to collecting. I didn't know that those were MIP ponies. I just thought the seller put them in the plastic bags. That they were completely seald never struck me =P
I did realize it about the MIP TAF baby and I was that fortunate that the seller did have another one just a like and I still had things she wanted to trade. So I got that one MIP again and still have her MIP. So now I got one loose and one MIP =P

But that's all. Ripping them of cards or out of packages I could never do. It would feel like such a crime. And it wouldn't really be a misstake either, can't relly misstake them for being loose and just packed in there by a seller ;)

So how about you? Guilty or not ;P
 
Im tempted to open my 2 MOC rockin beats. I cant sell them for less then what I paid, and one of them has dirt or something under her bubble! I am worried she will be ruined if I dont open her up.

Ive been debating it for a couple years, but I havent done it yet. Dont know if I will either.
 
I found 3 MOCs at my local flea market years ago, I ripped the box open, threw out the brushes, ribbons, back card...yeah I was never one for accesories or anything, I TOTALLY regret it now...but there's nothing like smelling that new pony scent that only YOUR hands have touched...ahhhh heaven :)
 
I opened a few of my MOC G2 twins, mainly b/c there wasn't space on the wall for them and I really wanted to play with their accessories. Now that I have rearranged things, I have more room for MOCs, so any other G2s that come will most likely stay on their cards.

I have thought about opening my MOC Greek Moonstone b/c she has a crack in the bubble and some dirt has gotten on her. I also what to know what a Greek pony feels like as all of mine are MOC. I don't think I will ever open her however, it just seems wrong.
 
i opend all my G2's when i first got them,but the rest i keep moc now. I justifued opening them because i had bought them new from the shop and throught they wouldnt be collectable
 
I think she means vintage, not ones you got straight from the store.
 
I've never decarded a G1 pony, but I've opened many a MIB playset purchased from ebay. I had a MOC Sunbeam that I was dying to open, but I quickly sold her on before I could do it :).

Yes, many. I would not open MOCs now, because I have found it's not all that impossible to find mint, loose ponies. But, other then feeling a little foolish at the money I could have saved buying mint loose over MOC, I don't regret openning the MOCs I did. I still have the ponies, I enjoy them much more open than I would have if I kept them carded, and it was fun. :)

The Wind Whistler on the front of the MLPTP website is an openned MOC, actually! (And, despite what I said above, I have found it's nearly impossible to find a completely mint So-Soft if not carded. But often carded So-Softs have flaws too, so even MOCs are a crapshoot - all the more reason to just look for loose.)
 
yes - but not just for the sake of opening them. I only get MOC's when i cant find them loose - like many of the argentina babies. Actaully all my MOC's were argentina or greek. My boyfriend almost had a heart attack when he seen me open up the MOC green argentina lofty - because i told him i paid $80 (E BAY BIN) for her.. he;s like your destrying her value....well i have no intention of selling her, so i dont see what difference it makes!

as for G3 - i open them all :D i simply dont have room for the boxes

I have heard that some of them - argi's i think - get moldy if they stay moc??
 
I don't regret it, but I am extra glad I decarded Glory since she was badly stuck to the card.

I opened 3 greeks adn they were all stuck to the card too. in fact some of the symbol rubbded off on the card :?
 
Should I open my Rockin beat that looks like she has dirt and crud under the bubble?

Why would it be considered 'wrong' if you decided to open YOUR moc ponies? Lol, if anyone ever told me I was in the wrong for doing it, I'd tell them to mind their own **** business ;)
 
Open MOCS!!? I cant even rip tags off of my pillows! My husband does stuff like that. I did buy him some MOC star wars stuff. The first thing he did was rip them off to display them on his desk!! :evil: I still cant look at them to this day.
 
I like to find loose, mint ponies, I have actually never had one MOC! If I did buy one though, I think I would have to keep it that way, even though I would be very tempted to open it! I personally just like to rip stuff open, valuable as it may be, but I think I would restrain myself if it came to a G1 MLP! I love opening my G3's though (I don't have room for the boxes, either!) It is so fun to rearrange them on the shelves and style their hair...and like Galaxy said, there is nothing like opening a new pony! :D
 
I opened one, but it was the Movie Firefly with the video, and I bought it becasue I really wanted to video, so I had to open it! That's it though. I sold the rest of my MOC's because I wanted to open them. All I have left now are two Greeks, that I realy really really want to open, but I'm so afraid I'll regret it. In fact I stuck them in a closet today so I wouldn't have to keep looking at them. :roll:

No, my mom always wants to open the G3 ponies and brush their hair; I'm always like "No! They won't be worth as much!" lol stupid I know, but if we have duplicates we open one MIB.

First of all I really love MOC's. I think ponies are so much prettier on their colorful cards.
And second, even though they are mine and I can do wahtever I want with it, it won't be mine forever. I will die one day.
And since I enjoy them MOC I don't see any point in ripping them of their card, ruining the card for one completely and the collectible value. Cuz' that's what the G1's are these days. Collectibles. And collectibles should be treated that way as well, in my opinion, not like any other toy.

It's like buying Mona Lisa and decide she needs a beard and paint that on to the painting. It might be your painting but you are totaly ruining something valueble and that others might enjoy later on :roll:

Just my reasons for not opening them.
They are holy to me when they are MOC - or in any case since they are collectibles. You do not rip something apart that's holy =P
 
MOC collector as I may be, I'm still worried about my newly acuired Alitas SW Argie being damaged from her card. The card has been stored in a damp place since it is warped and smells quite badly. It's not damp anymore though.

I heard about someone who tried to take a Alitas off its card, and the wings snapped right off! :shock:
Aparently the wings are more fragile than the original Summer wings.
So I'm really not shure what to do here. Risk to leave her on for more possible damage or try to take her off and risk breaking the wings.

Desert, a few foreign MOCs are worth just as much off the card as on the card, and by removing them from the card just to save them getting more damaged from the poorly manufactured card is actually not a very dumb thing to do.

Other than that I always keep mine MOC (possible exeption on the one above) But I don't think its wrong of other people to take theirs of the card. Heck, it even increases the value of my MOCs! :p
 
Like punky_krista I opened all nearly all my g2's, whether they came from a store or ebay.

I traded away once a G1 moc because i wanted to open it, now I have 3 MOC and 1 MIP, which I dont feel like opening.

I have several g3s MOC, most of them I have loose anyway, except for 3, which dont interest me very much, hence they are still MOC.
