re

i haven't opened any mocs yet. although one of my butterscotch argie has been already opened by the previous owner and she taped the plastic bubble back. I'm still deciding whether i should open it or not. i also have an applejack italian moc that has really bad openings on her plastic bubble container which i'm thinking of opening.

.

Midnight Rainbow: On a card with a cracked bubble and dirt under the bubble, there probably isn't a great deal of value because it's not "MOC". Mint on card means just that - and dirty/cracked bubble isn't minty. I'd go ahead and take her out and enjoy her. She'll look a lot prettier outside of a dirty bubble.

My dream is to one day sift through a flea market table and find a box of ponies with some MOC's stashed away at the bottom. It hasn't happened yet, but I can still keep dreaming!

I have only opened the yucky Argentina ponies I bought. You all know the ones...the cards were all water stained and moldy, and most of the ponies looked just gross even though they were still technically MOC. I had to open some of those to just wash them and try to get them looking spiffy.

My other MOCs I didn't buy to keep MOC, but I always figured I could open them later. I could never put them back MOC, so I just left them alone until I could decide definitely one way or the other. I'll probably keep them MOC, but some just don't seem to be worth it. In that case, you may as well open them to enjoy them.

I open every MOC I get. I don't get them that often, though. So far I've opened a Flower Dream and a Megan and Sundance outfit.

I have heard that some of them - argi's i think - get moldy if they stay moc??

EEK! I have all three Acro Iris babies MOC. Now I'm running in to check on them. How do I know if they're starting to mold or not? I'd rather have them preserved off the card then ruined on it. :/

And I haven't opened any MOC/MIBs before, though I do open all my G3's, even my Mail Orders. I like to enjoy my ponies, which is why I don't plan on buying more G1 MOC/MIBs. I'll save those for the people who collect MIB...because they do deserve to be appreciated as art. ;)

I opened one when I first started collecting. It was a TE Sweet Stuff. I contacted the seller and he sold me another one. Considering how much I have invested in my MOC/MIB collection for those of you who have seen photos, I would NOT open another one again. Ones that have cards partially detached are resealed.

If I want a mint pony that badly, I will put forth the time and effort to find it, not lose out on 80+ dollars because I was lazy.

...

After the house fire about half of my MOC collection was damaged and I was forced to take some out of the packaging such as a MIP Birthflower, MIP Scribbles :( and a couple others. Scribbles was actually discoloured from some of the smoke seaping into the packaging. I hated having to open them.

I would open a MOC if it was at risk of being damaged from the card or bubble or if the pony was already handing off the card and barely attached.

Hey Rose, weren't you supposed to shoot me a list of ponies who were still MOC but smelled funny or had been lightly singed? I am still interested.

I have never and will never open a MOC or MIP pony. If a MIB pony still has it's original tape closing the sides, I won't open it, either. But I have 'opened' MIB ponies that had the tape torn off the side or removed, just so I could look at the packaging or see the pamphlet inside. But they go right back together after that! And, the only ones I've done that to are Rosedust and some sea ponies, basically MIB ponies that are not on a card also, so it looks 100% the same afterwards. :)

Personally I'd only open boxes. If it's got a bubble, it's staying under it. I really see no reason to not open them if you want to, but I would feel a bit guilty taking G1's out of their bubbles. TAF babies I'd open though. They just wouldn't stand well in a plastic baggie lol Besides, Mommy Sugarberry isn't wrapped up...

But I've only had one MOC other than my G3's. It was a G2 twin babies set and I did open it. I keep them on my shelf and their backcard (bubble too perhaps) with the rest of my backcards from the G3's etc. :)

I like the artwork on the back most of the time and I figure if I *do* give any of the ponies up, at least I've still got their backcard to go with em ya know?

I only have one MOC, a Greek Orange Firefly, and I haven't opened her as of yet. I only bought her MOC because it seems Greeks are harder to find loose, lol.

Personally, I would probably look for a minty loose before spending money for a MOC. But I'm not against opening them. I paid for it, it's mine. Callous as it sounds, I really don't care about how other people are going to feel about it. I'm not going to stop doing what I want with my stuff because other people want them a certain way.

Fine art is one thing, but really, a toy pony is not the same thing.

I haven´t open a G1 pony, yet. I wan´t a collection of loose ponies. So I´m looking for loose ponies in mint or near mint condition.

But Greek ponies are hardt to find loose. I have 2 MOC Greek ponies which I´ll open. If I would have found these ponies loose, I haven´t bought them MOC.
For the Argentinean babies, it´s the same. It seems to be harder to find them MOC than loose. And I think, I´ll open my Argie babies, too.

Never ever. Unless I get one who is half hanging off the card and half the card is missing. Even then I'd feel guilty!

For me it's not just about having a mint pony - I just love seeing them how they originally were, like how you would see them in the toy shop! So what if there is a speck of dirt underneath the bubble? It's not going to turn the pony into a melted blob of plastic. I like to be able to display them with their cards.

I don't buy the MOC ponies because I am weak. I know that as soon as that box would arrive on my doorstep, I would be carefully pulling the pony out. I feel that ponies were meant to be played with, but I understand how others would want them still in their box. So if I did ever come across a MOC pony, I would sell her and buy a couple of loose ones :) .

I opened a Greek Glory - but her bubble was so badly cracked that I could feel three of her legs while "carded" anyway.

I would never open an MOC that was still in good condition. But I must admit I had the best fun brushing Glory's hair!

I think its a bit funny that people are refering to MOC ponies as holy things, and that they are as valuable as fine art or something....Thats going a bit to far I think...I mean holy? Come on!

If I open mine its my choice. I wont feel bad for doing it, and if it makes someone else feel bad, tough. I PAID for them. They are MINE. Its legal for me to do with them as I want to. I agree with what someone else said; I wont change doing something because others want it done a differant way.

Besides, I have tried to sell them before, and noone wants em. If noone even wants them MOC, why keep em on it?

I have to agree with MR on the holy art thing... I love ponies as much as the next pony person, but in all reality, they are plastic toys...not a Monet painting.

I know they are not a Monet painting.
But they are collectibles with high value. And as a collector I tresure the collectible.

Oh yeah...

I had the entire set of Dance n Prance ponies MIB and I opened them all up, put ther accessories in ziploc bagges that went into a box in the closet and wound them up with glee. I also had three of the color changing baby seaponies. Same thing. I ran into the bathroom and dumped them in the water. ker-splash.

I personally love vintage G1s, and am currently collecting the UKs MOC that I have from childhood. I love to read the cards and look at the beautiful pictures, and it's pretty cool thinking about how I had all these exactly like that when I was young, even if I did open them after a quick yelp of delight. :p

For me, I don't get urges to open them. I think they are like little museum pieces...who knows how many of them are left? So for me, MOC's should be kept that way.
