Saving Bowtie: You Can Call Her Coral Now

love the tail and how it is going to mold into the body. The rocks are a great idea but are going to be heavy later on.

the thought bubbles are fantastic, i even showed all the people at my work because they remembered me talking about the bait contest.

:wow1:

*subscribes* Gotta watch this transformation (and listen to BowTie's one-liners...lol)

This is so much fun! It IS neat to watch the process, and much like the rest of the crew, I am thoroughly enjoying being able to listen in on Bow Tie's thoughts. They should make a reality show out of this!!!

Phew, well, things were still hectic, but I think I can sneak an update in before anything else happens. Bowtie got to take a little breather herself. So, how are you doing today?

That's good, that's good...but, yeah, I have some bad news. I need to poke you with more wires for your fins.

So, now that she's got all her armature bits in place, it's time to coat with clay! (I'm using Apoxie Sculpt, by the way. I had originally though I'd bulk out with Super Sculpey and do the topcoat in Apoxie, but, nah, just doing straight Apoxie.

And we have a closeup of the rescuplt on the mouth and leg, too:

It will only get better from here, Bowtie. (You'll look better with nostrils.)

Bahahaha! "You'll look better with nostrils"
Hilarious! It's exciting to watch you mess around with this bait. :seahorse:

OMG

She looks fantastic with a full face, who needs nostrails anyways?

I keep showing the ladies i work with and they are blown away by what is being done to her

this thread needs to be made a sticky!! super fantastic work so far :) love seeing the transformation = thanks for sharing!!!!

can't wait to see the progress :)

Sorry about the delay in updates. :frown: I suppose one should not try to do anything requiring a modicum of attention durring the holidays, as it seems almost every time I was ready to work on her, something else came up that needed immediate attention. But this update will let you see where we are now.

So, what's up?

Hey, are those some nostrils I spy?

As you can probably see, the tail was still getting bulked out and smoothed in this shot. A little later (once I finally found more sandpaper -- don't ask) she got her first sanding!

Yep, it's dusty in these parts.

I have a couple other areas to fill and sand smooth, but the major sculpting is finished. I know a lot of merponies get scales applied to their fishy half, but to me at least, I think Coral will look more like her ref picture without them.

So, probably the next time I update, you'll get to see her as the paint, oil, and powder start going on. (That's my favorite part! Well, assuming I get the tail smoothed to my satisfaction. If it's not, we're back to mixing apoxie, smoothing, sanding, rinse, repeat.)

You're making great progress! I bet Bowtie appreciates it!

Forget about doing anything during the holidays it is impossible, im surpried you got that much done. im having trouble just doing the dishes.

I must say i really, really like her nose and mouth. i think it looks so great on her face.

Soooooooo.. is she going to be for sale after? lol

whooo hooo :) love to see the progress made = she's really looking alot more like that merpony ref pic = can't wait to see more !!

just have to say thanks for sharing and you are so doing an amazing job!!

Thanks, everyone. I definitely don't consider myself a sculptor by any stretch, so I'm glad to hear her face is looking right. That was my main fear.

Soooooooo.. is she going to be for sale after? lol

Hahah! Well, first I have to finish her. Right now it feels like that'll never happen. At least the break in working on her has given me lots of motivation on the ATCs I'm doing. I'm glad for that, at least, because I had about zero inspiration on what to do for the swap until it became a choice of sanding some more or drawing something.
