As I'm sure some of you saw, I totally fell in love with Drusilla's winning entry in the 2010 Scariest Bait Contest. Dru was kind enough to let me play with poor Bowtie. I'm sure you remember her:

As I promised, I have started working on her and will be showing her evolution in this thread from scary zombie to this pretty Bella Sara pony, Coral:

I know I'm not the most accomplished customizer, but you might find it interesting to see the process I use to take a chew toy and turn it into a pretty little tchotchke.

I'm already a couple steps ahead (which is good because this is my crazy week at work) but as of this entry, you'll just have to pretend Bowtie has been washed and had her hair removed and I ordered my supplies. She has nooooo idea what's in store for her. ;)

Edit 4/14/2011: For those coming in late to the party, her subsequent picture updates can be found...

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Bowtie is not terribly pleased right now, because after she was cleaned out...well...

Yes, I totally cut the leg to reposition it, and I jammed some wire into her head to make an armature for her new muzzle. Ouch. What you might not be able to see is that I also cut a slit in her "armpit" to help reposition her leg. This takes a second to type, and a couple hours to do in real time. (The leg armatures kept moving before I could secure them. I got 'em in the end.)

At the end of it, I tucked the Chthulu tentacles back in bulked it out with a bit of aluminum foil to make braces from...a very warm place. ;) The tail ends at the ears are going to be left as-is right now, but those are going to be made into the headdress Coral wears by the end.

Still plenty to do, though, as you can see the gal doesn't have a tail yet...and how am I expecting to get her to stand? Hmmm. ;)

I cant wait to see more pictures.
Thank you for sharing this with us. She is going to be so awesome looking.

Wow, that's a tough one!
Good luck.
I'm really excited to see the final result :D

You certainly have your work cut out for you! I'm sure she will be gorgeous in the end, though, and happy to have a new life!

oh my goodness !

And step by step pictures to !

This is amazing, i am so glad i sent her to you and that you will do something with her.

:ipmimscs:those poor before pictures.

OOh I cant wait to see the next set of pics :)
And of course the finished custom !

Here's poor Bowtie again. I didn't put her tail armature in place in the first round of pics as I was waiting upon the pleasure of the postal system. But it arrived, and now you can get a better idea of what's going on here:

Yup, I threaded the wire through her tail hole. Yikes! As you can probably see, I also tucked in her haunches a bit to give her more of the slim, fishy look. And now for the fun stuff -- starting to bulk out the armature!

If you peek in the last pic, I use the Apoxie Sculpt to cement her two rocks together. I have some plans to hide that, but it'll be a while before I get there. ;) She's also not going to be attached to her base for a while, because I'm going to need to handle her without lugging around two pounds of rock, lol.
