Saving Bowtie: You Can Call Her Coral Now

She looks so so SOOO beautiful with those fins and red-orange glow....wowz. :D Are you going to give her pony hair or a fin-mane??

Thanks, everyone! I hope the last update made up for the four month hiatus.

Are you going to give her pony hair or a fin-mane??

Ahhh, I'm going to try out mohair for the mane. :) That's on my agenda for tonight. I got two colors to mix together, so I'm going to have to play with it a bit...

And as that implies...I did not set her or anything else on fire while shaping the Fantasy Film this afternoon. Hooray! I was actually able to NOT use open flame like some of the tutorials suggested, and thank goodness for that. I feel much better with the embossing heat tool. It's maybe not as pretty (it's kind of crinkly instead of the super-taut fins I've seen here on the custom merponies) but better safe than supermodel gorgeous.

wow progress :)

the colors are really cool looking but the fin stuff is just weird. i never even knew they had stuff like that

She has turned out to be magnificent! Pony hugs for your hard work! :D

oh so YAY :) just YAY on seeing her take shape - literally!! and yay for not burning anything - yep, totally agree not to use an open flame for better shrinking, holes creation control (got a much smaller merpony detailing out) with that fantasy film stuff = but soooo cool to see = YES totally worth the winter long wait and thanks for keeping us all informed about her transformation :)

Pic! We need pics! I can't wait to see her with her fins shaped! I think being a little crinkly might look more fish-like. :D

With her glue dried and fins shaped, I took bald Miss Coral outside, so you can get a more accurate view of her colors.

Once she came inside from her little excursion, it was time for the hair. If I'd thought this through back in November, instead of smoothing over her neck plugs, I should have made a channel to root the roving in. Alas, I did not, so it was just glued to the neck.

Off-camera (lol) I painted her rock base Apoxie-Sculpted area to match and added a felt pad for her tail to rest on the rock. The felt was also painted to blend in better, as I had no grey felt. I also made her some plant props on rocks that can be moved around and posed with her. And her hair was style and fluffed a bit. And that's it! Time for the glamor shots.

That one is just about my favorite shot ever -- I think it looks like she's swimming. :)

If I had to do it again, sure, there are some things I'd like to change. But on the whole, I think I did the best job I could. This was my first time using Apoxie Sculpt, first time engineering a pose change, first time using Fantasy Film, first time using roving hair...well, what can I say? I'm stupidly ambitious and fearless when it comes to customs!

I hope you enjoyed following along. It's been a learning experience (as much as it sounds like this was all planned from the start and things were totally under control!)

Just wow! Holy crap she is amazing Lady Phoenix!

I just have no words~!

Am sharing this link with all the people I have shown this to now!

Wow, that top picture really make it look like she's under water. Good job saving that poor pony! She is fabulous now!

OH MY GOD !!!!

This is fantastic, really crazy fantastic.

I cant believe how good that fin stuff looks, so clear looking, yet wavy and so flowing looking. Plus the color of the fins itself looks so great with the body color.

The hair at first i thought ?? but really it makes her really really look like she is under water and moving so gracefully.

i got to show the end product to the girls at work, we have been following her from the start.

so...can i have her back now? :smiley_duck:

I am straight up ASTONISHED. For the first time using practically everything you used, and starting off with that murderous bait, this is just mind blowing! That hair is PERFECT.

Just stunning all way round!

totally echoing the congrats on your fearlessness to customize the bait from ... well it doesn't matter now what she started out as = it 's been a downright blast to read this thread = thanks a zillion million for sharing the journey!

Somebody go get LLB from outta her box and let her know the end result of last halloween's contest !

P.S = you coming to the MD meet? I would love to see this beauty in person!!
