Location for the next 4 pony fairs!!!

Personally i think that sucks. Guess I won't be going for 4 years.

Not everyone can afford to fly, plus hotel costs and everything. Especially with the economy the way it is.

Guess I'll be saving my money for Dragon Con instead

Yes!! I'm happy abouy that.

Alegiant Air goes back and forth to Vegas for a little under 300 bucks from Bismarck!

Totally going next year.... I think it's kind of funny that I'm going to end up spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars for that trip when this year I could've made it in under an hour without hitting one toll booth but didn't. XD Oh, such is life.

Well I for one can't afford to fly to vegas plus hotel costs. At least when it rotated I had a chance of it making it to the midwest area. I know its been here, but I didn't know about the fair. Oh well I guess good for the people that can afford it.

Las Vegas. Hmm... earlier today I was talking to my friend mlpgirly who said she's going to the next fair no matter what, I agreed. But Las Vegas? *Gags* I don't know that I ever want to go there. And the next 4 years? There's got to be a good reason for that, but I just wish it wasn't so. When I heard Las Vegas, I too thought, "Oh man, how can I afford THAT city" but I guess if you guys say that cheap flights and hotels are possible, I may be able to go. I mean, the reason I'm no fan of Las Vegas is it seems like such a fake city, full of deviants (no offense meant, I swear, it's what I get from cop shows). I guess I just have a bad connotation when I think of that town. I guess I'll get over it if I want to go to the fair next here, hahah!

Hey, it could be really fun, so I'll hold my tongue. I should be thankful that there are for sure 4 more fairs lined up for us.

Is there any good chance that Hasbro will be involved next year and the years thereafter?

Claire - to be honest, I sort of feel the same about Vegas, in general. It's not my favorite city (I'm just happy it'll be closer to me and I'll finally get a chance to go to a fair). But there really are a lot of fun shows to catch, and many things to see. I'm sure you could find things that catch your interest there, even if you're not a gambler/drinker, etc. :) I know I don't gamble, or drink, or really party at all.. so you could definitely come hang out with me if you wanted. :p

Thanks, Plumeria. I think you're right- I just have some pre-conceived notions that I should get out of my head, really. I'm sure I could have a blast- maybe even try my hand at poker for once in my life, hey you only get one life, right? Hehe.

I'm glad it's back near me. The first time it was in Vegas, I couldn't afford to go. I was really poor! But this time I can make it, and the hotels are cheap. I just stayed at a new hotel this month, just off the Strip called the Silverton for about $60 a night for me and my husband. We can totally afford it now. Driving vs. flying is dead even for us, but with driving we can haul more ponies. :bliss:

wow, that absolutely suck pony rear.

I have no interest in vegas what so ever, its far away, its already been there before, and why in heck for 4 years?

Oh man, I might actually be able to go if it's in Vegas! :D Allegiant Air does really, really cheap flights sometimes. (I used to work at an airport and they were our main flights.) Plus, I have a friend I could probably crash with down there. And my boyfriend would be thrilled to go to Vegas. So for me it's a win-win situation. :D

However, being a starving college student may put a damper on that. It could come down to choosing between my yearly anime convention and the MLP Fair... if I even have that much. :/

Yes, people should definitely see if Allegiant Air flies out of your city. Air fare is definitely cheap :)

Hmm after thinking it over, I think I agree that it might be a good idea.

I know a lot of people are upset when the fair isn't near them, but to be honest there will always be people upset when the fair isn't hosted somewhere close to where they live. Try being up in BC, Canada - the fair will never be close to me but I'm okkay with that because I understand how impossible it would be to pick a location that is good for everyone.

No matter where it is in the US, a large majority will still have to fly in so it might as well be in a place with cheaper flights :)

I think one of the reasons we haven't had a Canada-only con is because Canada is so big. As far as airfare goes, it would be roughly the same to fly across Canada as it would be to fly to the MLP fair.

I live near Washington DC, so there are several possible airports I could use: BWI (in Baltimore, MD), Dulles Intl (in VA), Ronald Regan (just outside DC), and I could even potentially fly out of Richmond Airport. Allegiant Airlines does not service ANY of those airports. I just checked out roundtrip flights to Vegas and the cheapest I could find from any airports near me for a weekend was about $450 roundtrip :(

I think this decision is incredibly awful, because it seems that the east coast has been completely screwed. In 2004, the Fair was in Vegas (West Coast). In 2005 the Fair was in Minneapolis (Mid-West). In 2006 the Fair was in San Francisco (West Coast). In 2007 the fair was in Memphis (South). In 2008 it was held in Rhode Island, yes, it is on the east coast; the closest the Fair has come to me yet, but it was still 10 hour drive from me, and although I had saved up for it and was planning to go, unforeseen financial difficulties forced me to cancel my plans about a month ago.

If I had had any idea that the Fair would not be coming back to the East Coast (or, any further East than Vegas!) for the next FOUR YEARS, I would have just gone further into debt and made it out to this one, because honestly, there is absolutely NO CHANCE that I will EVER be able to afford a plane ticket to Vegas and hotel costs there as well as paying for food, a ticket to the fair, etc. That is just not going to be a reality for me. I was under the impression, when I made the decision not to go this year, that the Fair would continue to rotate, and that at some point in the next few years it might again be within a reasonable distance from me. I guess I was wrong, and now I truly believe that I will NEVER get to go.

ETA: Also, although this doesn't matter as much to me (because no matter where the pony fair was, the main reason I would go would be to go to the Fair and not for anything else), but I think Vegas is a horrid place. I was there two summers ago for about a week, and...I just didn't like ANYTHING about it. Everything was too jacked up in price, people were rude, gambling wasn't really fun to me, the shows were all too cheesy, it's just not my thing. I've seen a few people on here saying "oh Vegas is great, so it gives me more reason to go to the Fair since it will be in such a cool place," and for me that just isn't the case; I have absolutely NO desire to ever step foot in that town again.

I agree 100%
...maybe I'll see you a DragonCon. Hah.

my boyfriend's parent just got back from Vegas and they hated it totally. They said everything was expensive, people were always trying to scam you for money or shove some product or service in your face. Time share people left and right hounding you for your time. I'd pass too.

Ugh, Vegas. I'm not that far away from it (general right side of the country) but I still wouldn't go there.

Wow. I guess no matter what, there are always going to be complaints from some. :(

I for one think it's great that the location is going to be the same - it may not be the best for people that live far away, but isn't it better to know that far ahead of time for planning purposes? And Vegas vacations are CHEAP compared to the rest of the US destinations - you just have to hunt around for deals. I don't drink or gamble either, but I really enjoyed Vegas, and I think it's a great location for any convention. There is more to to there than just play blackjack!!
I mean come on, that's where the M&M's store is!!

i think its cool that its in Vegas, cuz ive never been and will definitely be at the fair next year, but having it in Vegas for four straight years is....weird. i just wonder why. hasnt it always rotated? i thought the idea of moving it was to try to make it easier for people who live on opposite sides of the US. if they were gonna pick a permanent spot wouldnt it make sense to pick somewhere in the center of the US?

does anyone know if this was the result of a bid? i know vegas LOVEs conventions... they tried to get the bid for our comic con when the contract was up for renewal.

where'd this info come from?
