MLPTP EVENT Seeing Stars on Halloween Night (Final Challenge Discussion)

haha that's brutal :p

This has to be the most incredible challenge! Everyone's posters are fantastic, just wow!!! *dies*

DB: The BBEs have their eyes on you...

All these posters are totally awesome! I've judged for exactness, I'm waiting on something before I post my scores, however.

I'm going to say this here since I don't want to put it in the actual poster threads:

I wanted to let you all know that in my judging, I'm going by 5 sub-categories of exactness: set-up, which ponies you choose, colors, layout, and attention to detail. Having all of those gets you the max # of exactness points, just so you know. :D

Thanks for being one of our awesome guest judges, Claire. Sounds like you took your job very seriously :)

Thanks Dancing Butterflies!

Just posted my scores, I tried to be as fair as possible. You all did really well! And remember, the scores for exactness, creativity, and requirements are extra points!

Wow...I have to admit I'm suprised I got such a low score. It took me a long time to set up the lighting behind the ponies and get all the fog from the machine at a good angle.

I'm dissapointed the judges weren't able to see the effort that went into that. In the spirit of exactness to the original movie poster.

I understand. I purposefully chose a challenging poster with *lots* of characters in it - so I'm hoping I get more points in the creative side.... (personally, I would be interested in knowing why I didn't get full points so if I participate in a future photo hunt I know what to do better)
I love how close many of the posters are to the original, but with just 1-2 ponies that's much easier...
bestinthewest -and I loved that you used glitter ponies for a see-through effect!

*eats my sour grapes and tries not to sound very whiney*

*edit* ok so I got less points on creativity than any other part???? how's that? maybe I just don't understand what the judges were going on, but I don't understand how that's my lowest score....!

despite all that I did have a LOT of fun! it's just frustrating to try to pick something difficult and creative for the final challenge and not do as well as expected.

Should I have chosen a simpler poster???? please advise so I know for the next time

It’s super hard to judge these entries and the judges did awesome! I’m very thankful for their help and for them bringing in more opinions than just mine. Not all of the scores were up before so now you can see your totals for the grand finale.
I’ll be announcing the winners…tomorrow!!

I'd like to say thanks to the judges.

It is never easy to have to judge, and you always know no matter how you do it, some people will be disappointed.

It is usual over here in the U.K to be polite and accept the scoring of your judge, whether it agrees with your personal opinion or not. Normally, if you want to ask for pointers on how to improve, a judge will help you out, but maybe that would be better done in private?

It seems such a shame for what has been a fun contest for us all to end on a down note like this.

Well done to everyone in their movie scores. Can't wait for the final tally tomorrow Wolfie!

let me reiterate then for the sake of all, I am VERY appreciative of this whole thing. I had a LOT of FUN!! Wolfie did an excellent job hosting it, planning, and providing all the updates! The judges for the finals did have their work cut out for them for sure.

I am terribly sorry if I seemed less than polite in anything I did or said. I always try my best and want to improve where I can. If I'm disappointed or concerned with anything, I (usually) feel safe in the MLP community to voice that. I am sorry if that came across as rude (b/c I'm in the US as opposed to the UK) - I try very hard to be polite, even when it *is* hard. I am NOT asking for a rescore, nor am I questioning the judges per se. I would like to *understand* better...

by no means is this a let down or a downer end to the contest. Win or lose I had a LOT of fun and so did my fiance!!

I"m sorry if my post offended anyone in particular, please disregard it as a vain attempt at humor in my frustration and a request for help for the future.

*trying my best again to be a polite American* :)

I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Thanks a lot Wolfie!!!!!

I'm very happy I received 5 points for Creativeness and Exactness :D
All those years in art school messing with photoshop paid off.

Are you saying people in the U.S. aren't polite about their scoring?? I'd have to disagree with that generalization.

I'm in the same boat as Roogna. I'm very happy with the hunt as a whole. I had a lot of fun. I just didn't realize it was going to be so heavily judged. It'd be nice to know what it was a certain judge didn't like so next year I can improve :) There's nothing wrong with wanting an explanation to something. When you've worked hard on a picture and it doesn't get the score you'd like its only human to feel dissapointed. It doesn't mean I'm dissapointed with the judges but rather dissapointed with my work.

I was just thinking aloud on my last post. Definatley not trying to say that I didn't appreciate what the judges have done or that I wanted to ruin everyone else fun on this hunt. So I apologize if anyone took it that way!

And in the US we also accept what the judges say. it is NOT just a UK thing!!!
I was NOT "not accepting" what the judges gave me, nor do I think anyone else in the US or elsewhere would! it's a rather rude differentiation that's not at all true. just b/c you're in the UK doesn't automatically mean you'll accept it, and just b/c you're not in the UK doensn't mean you wont.
I DO accept the score the judges gave. I am NOT asking them to change them in any way (ie, "not accepting")!!!
now, if you are equalizing "not accepting" with "complaining" or "questioning" that's different. One can question or complain while ALSO accepting the decision. They are NOT equal things. One learns by questioning, and everyone is entitled to complain. If this were a huge olympic competition and a person finished dead-last and complained because they were upset or unhappy, but did not fight the judges decision then they still accepted it. So please, please, don't make blanket statements like that.

edit***Once, again, I THANK our judges and hostess!! They did a marvelous and difficult job!!!

I'm so glad the points are finally revealed! I was so anxious!
I am disappointed to see I got points taken off for being late. Mine was posted at 11:49 pm which was before the deadline of Midnight. I don't really understand that.
But I guess I'm just glad it's over.
 Congrats to all those high-scorers! Y'all did great and the posters are fantastic!
