Sailor Moon Customs Swap - Round 2 ~ CLOSED - July 2009

I am almost done. bad part... I cant do the hair... I think I picked the worst character to do!!!! I am about to toss the pony.. I dont know what to do.... :gonnagetit:

Don't get frustrated. I've sent you a pm to see what's going on and to lend you a hand. :)

I'm trying to find a white bait for mine. I don't want to use a blank pony anymore lol. I was going to use a blossom forth but i can't get her flippen head of, i hate the ponies with glued on heads.

I had the worst time getting the head off my bait. I had an EVEN WORSE time getting the hair out. Glue. Caked. EVERYWHERE. Not fun. Had to boil her head several times. :eek:mg:

My bait is on it's way, and I've acquired quite a few necessary tools and parts. The hardest part is getting certain materials like paint and cloth. The craft store on base doesn't have a large selection (though bigger than I thought), so I need to find out where a craft store is here in Germany that's near Kaiserslautern. Or find a place online that I can order from quickly. It does look like I'll only be able to do one custom this round, though, because most of my time is spent waiting on stuff in the mail, lol!

Oh, and SailorLibra, I'm sending you a PM with some questions.

Okey dokey. Thanks for the updates.

Besides the boiling method, one step that I would do is take either nail polish remover or the pure acetone (both can be bought in the beauty section at Target and perhaps Walmart) and pour some down in the head to break up that glue. I also use a q-tip to target those hard areas.

For the head removal, I'd use an exacto knife and carefully remove the outer bondage to get to the base of the neck. Try to make your cuts as clean as possible so that one one will see. Once down near the neck base where it pops into the ponies body, then take a q-tip with some acetone and go around that area a few times to let the acetone do it's job. Be sure to rinse the acetone off whereever you use it because it can cause damage and problems later on with paint, etc. After all of that and the twisting and pulling with pliers, it's still not coming off, then I'd resort to boiling.

It takes some time to get those over glued heads and hair out. It's alright. Don't rush guys. I want everyone to have fun doing this and not get to the point where you are stressing out. You've been great at keeping me updated so if we need to give you an extension, we can. :)

Bubbles, since it's hard to find stuff on base, I can go out to micheals and pick you some stuff up if you'd like.

I am not stressing lol. I just laugh at myself on how funny mine is turning out. lol. I tried your method sailorlibra, so we will see later on when she dries how she turned out. sooooo hopefully. its ok. I am sure, if not, she doesnt look too bad. I still think she looks cute.

Oh I think I am done! lol. I need to do a lil something, and then she will be off to go!

That's great. I hope that hair method worked for you. Washing in warm/hot water helps loosen the hair and makes it a bit easier to style and then shock it with pure cold water will help set it. :)

Yah, its not sticking up anymore. haha. Its not perfect, but it'll have to do. Im never perfect at what I do anyway.

And also remember, it may get a bit messed up during shipping too. At least you gave it your best. We are human and none of us are perfect in any way.

I got my apoxie sculpt today :D
It is my first time using it, I'm eager to try it out
...first reaction however, it smells like man feet. ...like corn chips. Bleh!

It does smell like corn chips a bit. Brand new apoxie is very sticky and as it ages in the container, it becomes more workable. A trick to use while working with it is to keep your fingers wet. Just have a cup of water by you and dip your fingers into it to keep them moist. It gives you better control with the apoxie sculpt as well as if you need to smooth any of it.

I've heard from just about everyone. Has anyone seen PurGlory lately?

Well, here are a couple of pictures of my progress so far. I was thinking of changing the colours up in the photos so as to not give away who it is but... I kind of think the shoes give it away, anyway.. not to mention the camera didn't capture the colours properly... so... No real point >.<

The skirt was just tapped on for the picture. It'll be fastened later :p

I agree, the camera didn't help with the colors, but whoever it is is coming along very nicely. Nice work. And nice eye repaint. :)

My shoes dont look that good :-(
I don't think I'm very good with apoxie yet!
:ipmimscs:

It just takes some time, patience, water to help desticky you, and practice. I'm sure it looks fine. My senshi gloves and the shoulder pads don't look that good. Looks like a drunk guy painting lines on a road. lol. I'm almost done and I'll share photos in the next few days. ^_^v

I've been sitting and staring at my pony, loathing her. For some reason brand new paint that I know is usually a great color to apply keeps getting all chunky on the pony. I've switched makeup sponges, thinned the paint, wetted the sponge, switched to a brush, all with the same results.

Luckily, the bait I used happens to have about 6 more identical to her in my bait bucket, so if I have to start over I can. I already have the material for the clothes and the hair, so it's really just the paint that's driving me nuts.

Anyone have a good pattern for pony pants?? I am getting very close to just saying I will sculpt it and hope it survives the mail >__<

Skeen, try to sand that bit down that keeps getting chunks it and and repaint over it. That may help.

Phoenix Down, nah, I don't have a pattern for pants for a pony, I would suggest sculpting them. Apoxie sculpt is pretty strong stuff and most of the time survives it's mail journey.
