Yes I love my family and my pets. I love all my friends too. And of course I love everyone here at the TP.
But I also love Metallica.
I saw the music video for their song 'Until It Sleeps' and the rest is history.
YouTube - Metallica - Until It Sleeps (Music Video)
*video is not graphic, but may be disturbing to younger children*
*Metallica lyrics :: Metallica Until It Sleeps lyrics Lyrics*
I was 12 years old when that came out. Even being so young, I was depressed all the time. I was picked on at school constantly. I wouldn't say I was suicidal, but I know sometimes I felt like my life wasn't worth anything. I heard that one song, and it saved me from my depression. Everything I was feeling and going through was put into words and images.
My personal relation to the lyrics, deals with my heart condition. I had open heart surgery when I was an infant. Basically the left side of my heart is dead, and the right side pumps blood both in and out. My heart has to work extra hard to keep me going. I've always hated it because it makes me feel so weak. Not physically, but emotionally. I think most members know by now, that I can not have children, because of my condition. I would go into heart failure during the delivery and die. Not being able to have children, makes me feel like less of a woman. This song is my struggle to become stronger, and the hope that someday I can overcome my condition and give birth to my own child.
After I heard the song, I did a lot of research and bought all their previous albums and have continued to support them no matter what decisions they make musically or personally. They turned me on to heavy metal, and ever since they've been some of the best friends I could ask for. Every song they have, I can relate to in some form. Their music brightens my day, sympathizes with me, gets angry with me, and helps me through situations I can't deal with on my own.
I have not had the opportunity yet to meet the band face to face and chat with them. However, I have seen them live 3 times now. They are loud, fun, humble, and a true inspiration for anyone who has gone through very difficult times in their life.
The vocalist, James Hetfield, always expresses his thanks to the fans, and tells us to stick together cause we are a family.
Our love for them comes right back to us 100% every time. They are very dedicated to their fans.
I don't believe I'd be able to make it through my life without their music.
They mean so much to me, I will always love them.
And that my friends, is how the Metal Mistress came to be.
