Glory Figurine Arrived, my pics...

Well I called Hamilton Collection and told them what I thought. I had a rather long conversation with the receptionist because she thought I was... well... right. She thought that the horn did look a bit odd and that stickers for a symbol was a bit wierd. She also told me something that I didn't know.

Hamilton Collection doesn't have any say in what the product looks like when it comes to a product liscense. The artist makes the piece, contacts the owner of the liscense (in this case Hasbro) where it approved or denied and then the prototype is sent to manufacturing. Hamilton can make suggestions to the artist, but otherwise they have no dealings with the making of the collectible at all.

NO

WAY

So Hasbro approved this and now Hamilton Collection just signs up to sell it? How weird! And fooey on Hasbro for approving it like this! I guess I was hoping for something like the old porcelain ones. If this was in porcelain with molded hair, even with the small size and stoned look I'd probably be cool with it. But as is, the plastic thing - eh... I'm undecided. I guess I'll hang onto this one and if the next one doesn't sell me on the set, I'll return it and hock Glory to someone who really wants her. I didn't want brushable hair! I hate to say it, but that's part of what makes it so cheap looking to me. All fancy china is a "figurine" - plastic with plastic hair is, well, a McDonald's pony!!!

She has ears like a chihuahua (sp?) - that's really not helping the situation...

*sigh* duped again.

She's weird looking but I want her.. I'm still angry they cancelled my order. I sent the postcard back in and called, but they still didn't keep the order =/

Cripes, -I- can do a better rendition of a pony than that artist. (Hear that, Hasbro? Hire ME next time, and pony fans won't be angrily dissapointed!). Even I have better sense of what the eyes and proportion should be. Everyone knows the horn is on the mid forhead and not at the top. Did this artist even SEE a MLP before?

UGH! I'm glad I didn't see these things when they first came out... She's terrible! It's the HORN! I don't mind the pointiness, but it IS way too high on her head!!! I would have to saw mine off and put it where it belongs. The ears are a big nono too! I would paint a real symbol on her as well. In fact, if anyone wants a real glitter symbol put on her, I have the stuff to do it with! Of course, I don't know, since they will be collectible, I don't know if anyone would want to destroy the mintiness....

Just throwing in 2 cents. ^o^

I got mine today.

I truly hoped that in person I could get a better look, and like her better than the pictures here portrayed.

Nothing hurts worse than this deep wound right now. I'm so disappointed in this item. So disappointed in HASBRO. How could they have authorized something that resembles a stoned donkey?

PrincessLuna, if you want mine, you're welcome to her for her retail price. Otherwise I'm just going to send her right back to Hamilton and get a refund.

I will be writing a letter of complaint to both Hamilton and Hasbro. I would ask that everyone who feels gypped over this do the same. Many voices make a difference!

Seriously, maybe you should send a prototype Sculpty figurine over to Hasbro/Hamilton, Starblaze. I've seen your Sculptey figures and they are adorable and FAR superior. Or that person who made the Lemon Squash figurine in a bathtub for Spoosh, that was cute too . . .

They wouldn't be Hasbro if they wouldn't mess up. :p
Just kidding.

Now, now, I don't think she's that bad. I would love to adopt such a statue from other disappointed collectors, because I happen to like her. Her pose reminds me of the Magic Star mold, which I happen to like a lot. :)

I also think the porcelain statues of the past are very weird compared to the actual ponies. If you compare those to this statue, I'd say this is the better attempt to resemble an old G1 pony. u_u

Le Sigh.
My Glory has a yellow horn.
Most would probably say 'off white', but is sure isn't white-white. Not like the body is white. And the hair...why oh why couldn't she look like her happy picture in the advertisement?

Anyone else have a yellowed horn?

Has anyone got a copy of the original promotional pic?
i have to agree, the original pic was much cuter:

EDIT: but i'm not sure why anyone expected molded hair, when both fliers clearly state "features silky, brushable hair".

I wasn't expecting molded hair, but I HAD been expecting everything else from that first picture. -.-

I'm completely disappointed, and I'm sending her back. The horn is off-white and the paint is shoddy, it even dripped along her forehead and no one cleaned it up. And STICKERS?!? Come on, they could have done a heck of a lot better than that. Her eyes are weird, she looks old and drugged. Her hair is STUCK in this god-awful single curl I simply can't break apart.

I thought she'd win me over when I got her, but for $25, I don't think she's worth it, especially not in my current financial situation. o_O

well, I got mine yesterday. After all of my going on and on about how bad she looked in the pictures, now that I have her I really do actually like her. I'm definately keeping her and the rest of them. :)

but you know the more i look at that original pic, it kinda looks like a painting? or maybe the hair was photoshopped or something. cause clearly the hair isnt brushable in that pic, but looks more brushable in the new pic. i dunno i could be wrong. but either way, i think the figure would have changed from the original pic anyway, cause the hair isnt like the description states it is. the horn is also high on her head in the original pic too. her eyes are different than the new one. looks more mlp. but i'm saying the original pic was probably a prototype.

has anyone asked why there were 2 different pics, 2 different sculpts?

I was told that if Hasbro has a problem with the original sculpt, they would tell the artist and he would make the changes, thereby sending the reworked pony back for approval. That may have been why it took so long for them to be released.

That does sound likely to have happened (though whether or not that caused the delay we can't know). Another option is that Hasbr weren't happy with the quoted price for production and were trying to drive the costs down.

Actually, I'd say that happened anyway. The stickers smack of keeping costs as low as possible at the expense of quality.

I do think she looks rather odd, but what I'm most surprised about is her size. She's tiny! I expected them to be much bigger.

[IMHO]
I just got mine today and openned her up. Wow, im rather surprised pictures don't do this little sculpture justice. Looking at everyones pictures and seeing the comments made me really think this figure is really ugly and cheap. The description stated brushable hair and a hight of 3", so I don't know why some of you are surprised at these facts. You know what people, she realy isn't ugly and cheap looking. Looking at her now, about oh, a foot away from me she actually does give me warm fuzzies of Glory when I first got her as a child. Don't like the stickers? Rip them off and paint them on, alot of you are that talented. Same goes for the eyes. Don't like the horn, cut it off, repaint, reposition and glue it back on. Again the customizers should have a blast with this. Otherwise send it back/sell it, whatnot and send an email to the artist/whoever about your complaints. Who knows. ;) Is there anyone else out here that happens to actualy like the figurine? Even if I am the only one, more for me! xD I don't notice the sculptures flaws that have been mentioned unless I have the fig shoved within an inch of my face in daylight. I don't know if im feeling this way either because I truly adore MLP, being part of my love in childhood OR because I, too, am an artist that can critique work from near or afar. Yes, it's not "perfect" but in a way it is? :p Anyhoo, she has a place in my dresser. :)
[/IMHO]
*edit* added a few more thoughts

I haven't read all the replies, but here is what I think. I'm glad I didn't order one. It's the face for me. Looks so weird, stoned, disportioned, whatever you call it, just not pretty. This is my opinion. I'm happy for those that like her. But I think it looks kind of cheap and wierd. I mean, stickers for the symbols... :? Oh well. Congrats to those that do like her. I feel bad for anyone that ordered her and feels like I do.

It may grow on me, I don't know. I really wanted to order one, but I held off to see the real product. I would love to have a series of MLP figurines, but I'm just not sure yet. I still think Glory looks odd.

I *almost* ordered it, now I'm glad I didn't. It doesn't look close to the original one pictured, and from what I'm seeing and hearing it's certainly not worth the money to me.

Nibbles666, people shouldn't have to paint it or ravamp it in other ways. When you pay $20 for a little 3" figure you expect quality, not to be paying $20 for a baity piece of plastic that you have to tweak and destroy its original value. I know I'd feel awfully cheated if I called and complained and they told me "Well, we've seen that you people customize. Just fix it yourself." That's a questionable attitude to have, it takes away any and all responsibility of the company to make a product worth the money you pay for it.

Please read my post again, don't get me wrong. By all means send it back if you aren't happy, that is ones choice. I never said you had to keep it and should have to revamp it, it was only a suggestion and that's it, just a suggestion. (Note the IMHO) One is not bound by keeping it. IMHO, I don't see her as baity like you may see it as, others will feel differently as well. I made the example in my post as to say "hey, i'm fond in a way and in a way im not... i don't want to send it back because it does still give me a feeling of MLP from childhood days, maybe I can spruce it up to how -I- should see it". We buy new ponies daily in new packaging all the time and yet we are faced with a "baity" pony when it's QC has little to be desired. :? One shouldn't have to use harsh chemicals to get glue off a brand new pony or have to cut it's hair back cause it's caked in glue or the molding is messed up, etc. But we do put up with it because Hasblow won't address the issue and can only offer a % off coupon toward another pony, they can't even replace that same pony for you. Yes, you can take it back to the store for a refund but in my case with Savanna Sage, I could not. I understand where your coming from and fully agree. If you taken a liking and are able to make some minor changes(and want to), do so. Hopefully with alot of us complaining to the artist/Hasblow, we may possibly see a difference in future releases. :)
