Gaia the Goddess

WOW :) thats a cool custom..

I can't believe someone would be offended by that..

Oh well.. I think she is lovely..

I think we have explained our reasons fairly well to Tealslippers.

And as I have said on another board it is less about the children, and more about those straight laced in the community who write and complain. They ARE out there, and the complaints we get about smallest things (like for example saying "Hell or heck").
The Arena mods & admins were all in agreement on this one and it was not a hasty or easy decision.

*Edit* the bleeped out word actually starts with h and rhymes with well. :p

LOL, i was expecting something based on gaiaonline. XD that's a very neat idea for a custom, though. it came out very well. :3

Same here, haha!

It's a very unique idea for a custom. I don't find it offensive, just original and intriguing.

sometimes the people who write and complain need to be told to get over it. if we removed every piece of artwork that someone complained about, we'd have no art.

Loa, with all due respect - and I mean that, I very much respect you, if this isn't about underage users, I really have no idea what this is about. I have a hard time believing the mods at the Arena can't handle some complaints from people that can't handle adult themes. I would be really dismayed to learn this is about the mods being strong-armed by conservatives.

PS: By conservatives, I don't mean Republicans or Canada's Conservative Party, I mean people who are socially conservative (I had visions of people thinking I was slagging their political party!!)

I think some clarification may be needed. I have PM wanting to know who complained here. ( Teal, I think your title may have confused a little)

We have not received any complaints here at the TP.

Complaints that have been received at the Arena and the removal of the artwork from the thread at the Arena is an Arena decision.

Should you wish to question that, its best to bring that up with their mods/Admin directly.

Thanks :)

Hi SS :)

I changed the title to clear things up for the TP :) I am sorry if I muddied the waters a bit. My last post there was a direct response to Loa's post here - although she was referring to Arena matters. I have pmed her my response at the Arena.

I can see how some people would find this offensive, and it's completely in their right to find it that way. Insulting people, directly or indirectly, for their opinions just isn't right though, and everyone is entitled to show their creativity in any way they want. Perhaps, if this sort of thing is an issue at the Arena, they should have a more 'mature' section for artwork and customs.

I think this pony is very lovely, the colours fit the feminine nature of Gaia beautifully and the symbol is perfect.

Its a lovely custom and I also love the idea behind it. I can understand why it would cause policy problems at the Arena. It is very tough to try to keep constant rules when it comes to a group that has such a wide age range. Sometimes you're going to come off as the villain and sometimes as the hero.

However, I thought that the Arena had adults only sections. I don't visit as often as I like and I'm aren't as aware of their diferent areas. I do agree that adding an age restricted forum that allows for the more "risque" customs could be considered.

Anyways, controversy aside, very nice, memorable work. :)

LOL I already commented on it at the arena (a few days ago, and I like it!), but I just asked my 4 year old what she thought of it and she said, "Coconuts! No, wait, it's a face!" When I asked her to show me, she pointed at the head and said, "See? Here's the hair, *points at breasts* here's the eyes, *points at bellybutton* here's the mouth, *points at legs/crotch* and here's the beard!" Then she asked me if Santa could bring her a Gaia pony next christmas! I told her I didn't think he had one, and she said "She's sooo pretty, maybe his store is just sold out". *giggle* Out of the mouths of babes, huh?

Kids would be better off seeing this custom rather than the previously mentioned corseted, fishnet, bondage, crap loads of make up, etc.

Seriously, really think about which is more damaging and inappropriate.

Uh...ok then, never realized that people found my corseted ponies "damaging and inappropriate". Nice to know. I'd wear a corset everyday if I had the body for it, I just think they are cute.

i don't think that was the intent... i think it was more like "corsets are more risque than an ancient piece of artwork, and the corsets get to stay." sort of like saying "a puppy dog is more threatening than this."

unicornucopia - that is TOO cute. how very rorschach. XD

They're not inappropriate but I find a pony in a corset to be more much more sexualized then this custom is.

I'd much rather ignore the controversy and get back to the fact that this is an awesome custom! You have given a lot of thought and effort into a wonderful interpretation of an older form of statue art. She is just beautiful! Thank you for sharing her with us.

Thats also what I meant Woosie... please, no offence to yours or anybody elses customs along those lines. And I dont believe they are innapropriate to show on these boards. I made a leather corsetted, frilled mini skirted pony for a birthday gift and was happy to show her off on the Playhouse.

I merely meant a child can see a female form in its natural, innocent state pretty often... bathing, dressing, and most children have seen their parents at some point.

I wear clothes like I mentioned, I have nothing against them in the least, simply making the point that they are more overtly sexual than this custom hence REALLY not understanding the prudishness that made this be removed from the Arena. Do the complainants wear panties in the bath?? LMAO I dont see how a simple, nude form is worse than obviously sexual clothes and all that it implys.

Again, I think she is beautiful, please let us know how she is liked by your friend. I would love to see even a series of these ponies, showing the various ways ancient Goddesses where represented throughout different cultures and times.
