G4? Say no people!

this topic makes a good argument. I also think g4s should be DIFFERENT CHARACTERS, so as long as there are pinkie pies and rainbow dashes, they're not g4s.
 
There´s a four-year-old little girl who goes to my mom´s church, but she´s actually generation X because she has the same name and hair colour as I do, and one day, she and I were even wearing the same colour of shirt! So that´s right, they aren´t G4. They´re G1 because Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash are G1 since they share a line with Applejack and Parasol (etcetera), if you follow me.

I hope you all have a sense of humour, otherwise, everybody´s gonna get mad at me :hide:

So I'm a little slow getting to this.....but I simply call them the "re-makes." I consider them G3, and since they are the same characters (Core 7), I just refer to them as re-makes. But I'm a pretty simple person......
 
everyone will call them whatever they want to call them till another line of ponies comes out.
hopefully it won't offend anyone to hear them called the "wrong thing"
 
G3 or G4, they will have the same nick name for me. They are the My Little Mule line!
 
I'd just like to say I hope no one will be upset if some one says G4, or any of the other names if anyone says it... just so on one gets a rant if they do say 'G4'

I think we shouldnt be so worked up over something that as far as I can see no one likes....
 
I say stick with G3, basically for all the reasons Whippet mentioned. Or G3 Chibis, G3 SD, something like that. While I understand that most collectors don't like the new ponies, some of us do, and we would just like a normal name to call them. XD lol

And I totally agree about the term Nirvana too. XD I, like sed, am from Nirvana-land (grew up there anyway), so it's a band to me, not a grail pony! lol
 
Hmm. Both sides are really well formulated. I haven't come to a conclusion myself. As long as no one is yelling at each other for calling it one thing or another I think I could care less about the whole thing. I do think, however, that it is a good idea to see where the line goes. I'm just sad at where this whole line has gone, but I understand for a marketing perspective. If you look at other major selling toy lines---Barbie, Bratz, etc. They have a set of characters that kids are familiar with. I guess Hasbro's just trying to jump on that trend. Don't forget that what worked with the 80's children in the 80's doesn't mean it'll work with the 00 children. *shrugs* Ah well. C'est la vie, I suppose.

Thanks whippet for this topic, i've gotta say it is a small pet peeve of mine at the moment. They aren't G4's because they aren't a new generation just a revamp of the G3's. When the core 7 first came out no one instantly said that they were G4's as they still looked like the G3's...well these new monsters are just a continuation of that line. Production of the line hasn't stopped. There hasn't been several years between the end of the G3's and these. These are the same characters in the same world (just now less populated than the early G3's world) People don't hesitate to bunch the original pretty ponies in with the G1's as, despite being different, they were part of the G1 line.

When a whole new world is created with totally new characters and new designs comes out that'll be G4 for me, but not until ^_~.
 
maybe we should have a poll... everyone says what THEY want to call them, we put those in a poll, vote, and the winner can be our official TP term for these monstrosities XD

Okay I'm on the "Call them G4's!" side... but that is by far the best argument for the "OMG they're not G4's" side I've seen so far.

to me, they´re still G3. They´re just to much allike the other G3s. I mean, lok at a G1, G2, G3 and these ones. The first three have significally different features, wich in my opinion these new ones dosnt have. They chare to much similarities with the older G3 to not be G3. Same characters etc. No other line have had their character follow into a new line, thus, they´re still the same line for me.

If you look at the logos in the pic. They´re practically the same. A change of colour and a tail on the "y" wich wasnt there before. Also, the new logo is used on boxes with old G3 molds (in the middle) so its not a completley new logo with the new design.

As for the new packageing style. Even the G1s did change style. See pic below. Different artwork, and even a slightly change in the logo, but still the same line.

So no, I wouldnt say that those features hold it to be a new line or G4.

I agree they are not G4 at all... but I really like the G3.5 name, becouse the change was way too big compared to the previous ones for my taste.
 
I'm going to confuse everyone and call them H6s.
