2008 Mlp Fair Dates And Venue

Well unless you are a government person or have the starwood membership, rooms at the westin start at 259! YIKES!
I think i am going to stay a few miles away for only 102 dollars a night. Sure I will have to drive 15 mins to get there...but I will save lots and lots of money to spend there!

OMG! They don't atomatically let vendors set up early? Eeekkk! Oh yes folks, please let us do that. It's just crazy to have us fighting customers just to set up! No fun at all. Please give people who bought a table an hour to set up before doors open.
 
They did let us in early last year, just not early enough.. They were late in letting us in, I waited for an hour for the fair staff to finish setting up... Some of the people digging through my stuff early were actually other vendors or the people with the vendors.

That's correct. The staff was let in early but the vendors weren't allowed in till they were finished... *cough* not the venue's fault. By that time, the doors were open to the public to it was open season before the vendors had a chance to put out their wares.

It was abosolutely ridiculous trying to set things up and sell at the same time. I wasn't completely unpack for almost 2 hours because we had to juggle the time with sellers. If my husband wasn't there to help, I couldn't have done it. *props to my boy*

Just a friendly suggestion: If the staff is running late in setting things up, please set the tables up first, let the vendors in as quickly as possible, and then finish up the decorations and things so that everyone can use the time to set up.

BTW, thanks for getting us the dates for the Fair. It's the later part of June instead of the beginning so I'm going to have to work around a couple of things but it's still doable. Will be booking airfare today. Please let us know about the hotels when you find out so we can compare that pricing with other hotel pricing. That'll also determine if we need to rent a car or not. Thanks!

For the staff or people who have gone to the Fair previously-what time does it end on Sunday? Is it reasonable to be able to leave when it ends and still get to the airport in time to fly out that night?

It usually ends around 5-6ish on sunday. I left last year at 9pm and we got home at 6am, we're NOT doing that again but we drove. We're just going to stay the extra night, go swimming and relax.

As for the starwood member, just sign up! It's totally free and every time you stay at their hotels, you get better rates, sometimes nicer rooms, and you rack up points toward free nights. You can stay at a Sheradon, 4 points by Sheradon, Westin and some others I can't remember, and OMG the beds are the best sleep I've ever gotten from a hotel.

Parking at the mall is probably a good idea. I looked at the Westin prices and it's way out of my price range, but the Hilton is 1/4 mi from the Convention Center and is $127/night on travelocity.com but the parking is $22/day. I'm wondering if the Convention Center parking is that much and if we will have to pay for parking at the hotel if we get a special rate.
 
Oh, forgot about this tidbit!
If you don't mind walking up and down a pretty large hill to get to the convention center, you can always park up in the Thayer st area. I would say it's about a mile walk (downhill to the center, uphill from), but it is free to park on the side roads up there. I would probably move the car at least once a day though.

You can't get any closer than connected to the place;) Like my post above, I highly recommend you become a starwood preferred member before you book, you'll get 35% off the $250 rate so the room is only $174 instead;)

Do I need to have another charm ready for you? hehe.
 
I'm considering booking us (myself and the fiancé) at the Knights Inn in Seekonk, MA. We're driving, so if anyone wants to save a few bucks and book there, you can ride to and from the Convention Center with us. We should have room for at least two people.
 
That's strange, Wysteria, I tried signing up for the Starwood membership, but it still told me rates started at $239 a night. I think I'm going to be staying at the Courtyard, which might not be connected, but is /right/ by the convention center anyway.

I was about to ask if that is okay with everyone or if some people would prefer for it not to happen. I don't really mind either way, it's still a sale. :)

I was about to ask about that, thanks for the info. I'll give it a try too FB to see what I can get.

I want to know if we are getting any group rates or not.

If you signed up online( i did it at a hotel) you should get your preferred member # in an email I'm guessing. You might just need to wait for some kind of confirmation email? But definetly make sure you do your room search through the spg.com website, that's how the rate showed up for me. Or try calling and talking to a person, they're all usually very helpful.

Hey Fair Staff -- Will we get to know what the hotel group rate is (and where) before the end of January? I would really like to compare that deal against these others I'm finding before I book. But I don't want these codes/deals to expire and then find out the group hotel rate is higher than expected. Most of these special deals won't let you cancel without paying a penalty.

We've put in the request for pricing at a couple of places and are waiting to hear back. I would think we'll have some info for you in the next couple of days. We'll post it as soon as we get it. Promise!
