G1 Why is Mimic Rare?

More expensive then rare. She pops up for outrageous prices now and then and has become a Status Symbol amongst collectors.

I've hears lots of theories from collectors: low inventory availability, poor sales, you name it. I think the truth is, like LaW said, she's somehow become a "Have To Have" Pony and thus few collectors are willing to part with her and those that do expect top dollar. Later she may well drop in price as another Pony becomes the Must Have Gal of the moment. I think that she has an animal symbol doesn't hurt. People tend to favour the cutie marks that are critters.

I know I tend to want all critter related Ponies!

I think she's not so much rare as hard to find / highly sought after. I got my Mimic in a lot I bought off Craigslist, so I was pretty pleased with how that turned out. :D

I think its all those things about Mimic that made her so special. I still gaze in awe over her when I have her out. Also she has the golden horseshoes my little pony and friends episode.

I personally don't like her all that much and don't understand the hype around her. Its weird, she ticks the right boxes with me, being green, a unicorn, a TE and having wild, tropical colors, with a cute parrot symbol. She fades weird and is in my least favorite unicorn pose. Oh well. I loved her gorgeous self in the show though.

I think the rumor is that someone a long time ago "claimed" she was rare and that they didn't make many of her because girls wanted pink and purple ponies and not green and yellow and it created this huge scramble to drive up her price. And in fact she seems to show up as frequently as the other twinkle eyes in her year.

Then shouldn't Masquerade and Fizzy, or Tootsie and Posey, also be "rare" because they are green and yellow? I don't get either why Mimic is so pricey....I find she's more common than Bright Eyes I find.

Tales Bright Eyes or TE Bright Eyes? I see TE Bright Eyes quite a bit.

Like I said before, someone "claimed" she was rare because of her color and set off a frenzy. That was the rumor anyway. I mean, look at Munchy and Red Roses. Neither of them are that common. Somehow that rumor got to Mimic and even though Mimic seems to be more common than Munchy, people go wild over her because she's much more attractive than Munchy.

And there were much less twinkle eyes made in Mimics year than in Masquerade and Fizzy's year. If you notice, the Year 5 twinkle eye ponies are much more sought after.

I meant TE Bright Eyes..sorry.

And I've seen insane prices for Red Roses too...dunno what that's about. (I don't collect perfume puffs..so don't know about them) I'm no expert on pony pricing and trends..sorry.

She is the only yellow unicorn that is from the G1 line. I think sometimes buying by color is popular?? I don't know. I think she can be a toughie. Personally I bought her at the wrong time of month too which was Dec... ><: I think I went through 4-5 sellers to buy her.
Especially at pony hot months. Months Apirl-May and Sep-Nov-Dec. The prices are higher for a lot of reasons during those months.
I think the best time to buy is during summer months in lots. (Although, I don't buy that way much anymore. I am very selective.) Now it seems more people are using BINs too for items. Most don't go through auctions as much as they used to on ebay.

Sparkle Baby Gusty and Baby Lucky Leaf are yellow too. Yellow ponies seem to be quite popular.

TE Bright Eyes usually goes between 30-40.

Does that make her like, the lamborghini of the pony world? I wonder who the Rolls Royce is?
