I went to Walmart yesterday. A new one by my house. Boy that was a crazy place to go on July 4th. Note to self. Anyway, on the MLP shelves I didn't see as many MOC ponies as I did old release ponies in these clear see through bags. What is up with that? Why are those being sold again? They were like the first couple of runs of ponies. I am shaking my head in confusion. Can you explain what those are? They are not even on the cards anymore. Is this Walmart's way of charging less for a pony that is old or are they everywhere like that?

I've seen it too. They almost seem like bootleg to me because of their cheap price and packaging, and also because of the fact that they only have one eye shine.

Yes they are very odd. I want to know more lol. I have never ever seen this with pony sales in retail. Its the oddest thing. If it happened with G3 too I missed it. Man I wish I could go back to the stores during the G3 pony days. There were so many ponies I wanted and couldn't get my hands on them fast enough before "poof" they were all gone. I am pretty sure I never saw them taken out of boxes, put in a baggie and sold on the store isle.

I think they originally came out at Easter a couple years ago, to be cheap basket stuffers. I have a feeling they sold so well that Hasbro has kept pumping them out to be impulse sellers at the cashier aisles. If nothing else, it's an inexpensive way to bring in new collectors as they can buy a number of Ponies relatively cheaply.

Let's hope they continue the trend by adding other Ponies to the line, such as Feathermay, Diamond Rose and other earlier Ponies (or the UK exclusives we never could have!). It would be nice for people to have a cheap alternative to shelling out big bucks for older, harder to find Ponies.

I'm afraid they won't due to people trying to pas them off as the real deal or a variant. I can just see "OMG VHTF RARE SOUGHT AFTER VARIANT DIAMOND ROSE WITH NO EYE HIGHLIGHT LOL" on eBay

I admit, I have seen people trying to pass off the bagged Lily Blossom as the Playful Pony one. there's differences, but newer collectors wouldn't know that. why are some sellers such total butt nuggets?

But honestly, do they really care what happens on the secondary market with their toys? I just can't imagine a bunch of Hasbro people checking every auction to make sure no one is scammed.

I see your point Bun Bun. Makes since that these are like cheaper brushables and a nice way to have a pony.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I always thought these were for kids whose parents couldn't afford the actual MOC ponies. Might just be me, of course.

Huh, I'll have to look at mine. I bought the Playful Pony version ages ago and recently bought a bagged one because I forgot I had the Playful Pony version MOC.

For some reason I do not feel these ponies were bagged for lower income families. I still think its an inventory issue or even Walmarts requirement of companies to sell items at lower prices. So, I think there is a possibility they use old stock and don't put the pricey packaging which allows them to meet Walmarts demand for a lower price. Its the Walmart way. But, I have seen them other places which makes that theory uncertain.

I think it is for lower income families. Which I think is good. Little girls deserve ponies, whatever their parents earn.

Well if that is true they should bag all toys and let all kids no matter what economical level they fall in enjoy getting every toy out there. If packaging and stuff is making toys that expensive then we need to make some major changes. Especially, when most kids throw the packaging in the trash anyway. I am not a mib collector so I don't care about moc and boxes on modern toys. So, lets just trash these over priced packed items and bag everything. Think of the money we all will save. One thing is for certain. Without the fancy boxes theft will certainly go up. So, as consumers we are paying for the mistakes of others. boooooooooo

Well I have heard that the ponies are slightly lower quality than they usually are. Which, considering the awful quality level brushables are currently at, is... wow, it means they're pretty bad.

Hmmm. I have some card Ponies AND some bagged ones. Sounds like Action Hank and I need to do some inspections and tests on them.

Don't worry. Our experiments won't hurt. Much.

Ponies in cakes makes them ooey gooey chewy! YUM!

Haha I can just see the ponies now hooked up to wire, raised to the roof during a Texas rainstorm and then poof, "she's alive." Yea perfectly harmless. snicker:D

Somewhere I have pictures of an experiment I did with peroxide and denture tablets for cleaning a Pony. I tied a little yarn to her leg and had one of my action figures lowering her into the bubbling mixture. I really need to find those.
