Hey folks!

I went to Portland, Oregon for a conference a couple of weeks ago. While there, I found a vintage toy store! It was closed when I first found it, but I saw ponies through the glass storefront, so you know I found my way back when it was open!

See the ponies? The name of the store is blacked out because he said I could only take photos if they were for personal use, so if you want to know, just shoot me a PM.

Needless to say I was amazed and enthralled! When you first walk in, here's what you see. Ponies and Rainbow Brite and Care Bears, oh my!

A few close-ups of the ponies. They were all very over-prized. Baby Starbow was $50!!! I am kicking myself for not buying Wigwam, I can't even remember how much he was!

More ponies- sorry for the blurry pictures.

The store was pretty big- there's my coworker posing. Blurred her face in case she didn't want to be online, LOL! The rest of the store was mainly boy toys from the 70s and 80s. I have more pics, but they are all blurry beyond recognition.

So we'll focus on the girl toys! Here is some Strawberry Shortcake stuff!

Oooh, Moondreamers and Fairy Tail Birds. I wanted these, but I had to limit myself!

Here's what I ended up with. SSC Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, Lime Chiffon, Princess Dawn, a Rainbow Brite sprite (the green one that came with the dolls), a MLP book, a Popples book, and that's it! Oh, I almost forgot- I got a SHS puzzle and a Rainbow Curl puzzle too!

Hope you enjoyed the tour through the vintage toy store! :pumpk1: I know I did!
I forgot to say, they had records and books and all sorts of stuff.

was the stuff overpriced? most vintage stores seem to think they can sell what they have for a lot more than it's worth.

I think everything was pretty high, but especially the ponies! Baby Starbow was $50, Tickle was $26, and I thought Princess Dawn was $12, but it turns out I'm a bit dyslexic, and she was $21, totally not worth that much. Also, see BBE Baby Halfnote? She was $12! And BBE Baby Lofty? $11. I don't think so!

SSC was actually reasonable, and were in wonderful condition- Lime Chiffon even had her hat still pinned to her head like she was MIB. The Moondreamers seemed reasonable too. The puzzles were high- they wanted $5 and $8, and like a chump I bought them, but usually puzzles don't go for much in the community.

Chief was one of the ones I had my eyes on, but he had a haircut and was way overpriced, I think $25 or $30- I can't remember. I felt really bad when I left all those ponies, but I would have had to spend an ungodly amount on them. I'd rather get a mystery G1 lot on Ebay, to tell you the truth! :)

Oh, that shop looks very interesting. Pity the ponies were so expensive. I'd hate to find a shop in which they sell ponies I want, only to find they're overpriced. I think it's the same problem as when you find ponies in antique stores. They think that because it's old, it has to be worth a lot.

you've gotta love the prices at vintage stores... I always check out op shops and the like, they go for like 50 cents to $2! I've picked up some nice ponies from there.. but you've gotta be quick, so many non-collectors just think they're cute for their kids!

I would have gone so broke in that store. lol.

Wow that's an awesome store Claire! It reminds me of the one by me...again overpriced :*( but I think the store you went to was much better looking!
Congrats on the buys!

you should go back and tell them that as a collector and as a mod for this site, you know they are selling their ponies way too high and tell the the more reasonable offers for other collectors or people who want to buy them to sell for more on ebay as a lot. i would be very ticked off if i finally found a vintage toy shop and they had everything that i wanted, was looking for and they wanted to charge me 5 times as much as i would be willing to spend. as a business they shouldn't sell old use toys like that for that much, unless they are mint toys or still in the box.

Oh how wow! Very interesting store! Nice what you found, I love it!

This is how these shops usually price things. They are not necessarily going after the collector but someone to wander in and say I had this when I was little and am willing to pay 30$ for it.

Those shelves look just like our store like that here in cleveland. They always have stuff I want but with the prices so high it has to be something very nice for me to get it.

Isn't it nuts how walking into one of those places makes you feel though?

Congrats on your haul!!!

Bleh, I don't like stores like this. Of course, i'm cheap, but I'm not willing
to spend 12 bucks on a baby pony or 30 on an adult pony.
On ebay, I've barely paid over eight dollars on a single pony just
on principle!

Stores like this just leave a bad taste in my mouth. No pony
should be worth so much money. I don't see how a plastic
pony can be so expensive, it drives me nuts.

Pfft! Very over priced, I bet they get their vintage toys off of E-bay and are marking it up to make a profit.

I would never buy from a store like that, I would like looking, but never buy.

Hear, hear! You've discovered the secret of all vintage stores. Some people are willing to pay a lot to satisfy their momentary nostalgia. Most of them don't know that if they went to fleamarkets or thrift shops regularly, they could get their childhood treasures for a fraction of what they pay in vintage stores.

What an awesome store. But $50 for a pony that not that HTF? Whoa, crazy. Such lovely boys though. Oh no they are all in the window, they are totally going to get faded. :p
