One candy I always did get often but tasted awful was trading card gum. It was like a hard slice of pink plastic dusted with powdered sugar. If it tasted like anything,. it was of cardboard. But I loved buying the cards (Star Wars and Star Trek the Motion Picture, when I was 9) so I felt like I HAD to eat the gum, because I paid for it to get the cards. I'd have been better off chewing one of the cards, it was that nasty.

I haaate Smarties! They're this weird mix of sour and chalk and soul-stealing. When I got them when I was in elementary school, I would try to stack them as high as I could and then knock them down. In my book, they're only good for building material, and they're not even that good at that purpose.

(Oh, and I'm talking about US Smarties! The Smarties sold overseas and in Canada are lovely.)
