It's driving me NUTS. I've asked many times and never got an answer so I made a thread. xD

So heh yeah what is it? Someone explain it to me? I feel like a little kid who had to have her ears covered and is now left out.

... I am analogy queen... rawr >.> :doh5B15D:

Core 7 is the new line of ponies that Hasbro is begining to release. They are going to re-release the same exact ponies over and over again (it's just plain stupid, isn't it?) These ponies can be found on the games section of www.mylittlepony.com and their names are Rainbow Dash (ugh...), Pinkie Pie (UGH...), Scootaloo, Starsong, Sweetie Belle, Toola Roola, and Cheerilee.:unicorn:

And they're AWFUL! I went to the toy store yesterday hoping to snag the last few non-core 7's before they're all gone in September. There were three, that's it, other than that it's a rack of Scootaloos and Pinkie Pies.

Which made me think of something else Hasbro seems to have missed, sure they have 7 core ponies. Great. But retailers don't order things like ponies by characters, they order an *assortment* which means that they all have the same stock number, you order 7 of the stock number and they send you whatever. Meaning you could get 7 of all ONE character, or any mix there-of. My point being, retailers will probably NEVER have all 7 actual different characters at once, more like two or three...or basically whatever the supplier feels like sending or has on hand..

Just bad all around

Wait... all year?

WTF?! And ew! That's why I've been seeing Cheerilies all over the freaking place, in many forms. Oh my god this upsets me. Why are they doing it?

I better go snag the Anniversary ponies while I can too :/

I mean really.. if they wanted to do this they could have at least done the originals. Like Minty, Sunny Daze (love her, but she's been gone forever), Sweetberry, Kimono (what happened to her too?) and all of them.

The originals and the Friendship Ball. Good times, good times. Now it's all gone T_T

Wow. I didn't know what the core 7 was either.. so thanks for posting this. I may not be a hoighty toity business owner but having a minor in marketing tells me only one thing. Hasbro has screwed up. Royally.
They have alienated the same people that brought their MLP line back from the dead! The collectors and the age group who remembers them from childhood that is now buying them for nostalgia reasons in parenthood.
I hate seeing pinkie Pie everywhere. She looks like pepto bismol and makes me feel just as bad as when I have to drink that stuff.

Thank you!! I've been wondering as well what the core 7 deal was. That sounds awfully stupid and boring :/

As a new collector the core 7 idea is good because that will give me time to catch up with the rest of you and not be tempted to buy a new pony every time I go to the grocery store! However, having said that I think that releasing only 7 different ponies is a very bad idea. What got me into collecting was the different symbols and colors. Take that away and you just have the same pony in different poses which doesn't interest me too much because I don't really see the purpose since the symbol and colors are the same.

That's another thing, they are all in the same pose now. So basically the same pony again and again.

*sigh* Ya know...I never really got into the G3's, but every once in awhile I'd see one that would just really catch my attention and I'd have to have it (Silver Glow, Northern Lights, Brights Brightly, etc...) but with the exception of Star Song (yes, I realize she's a Silver Glow rip off) none of the Core 7 appeal to me, and even the one that does...why would I want 20 different releases of the same pony? G1 rarely had multiple releases of one pony, and it went on for YEARS....was their ever an outcry for Cotton Candy in another pose? Don't think so.

Also, it seems to me some of the people working at Hasbro at this point must be about "our" age, and must have been growing up around the G1 releases..so, you'd think they might have SOME clue as to how well G1s worked....so why make such a DRASTIC change?

It's not really that bizarre. Think about other doll lines. Think about Barbie or Bratz. Same doll, over and over again. A few changes in makeup or hair style/colour maybe, lots of different outfits and accessories - but the dolls are all the same. When they introduce a new character it's a huge deal, and "NEW FRIEND" is plastered everywhere on the box. But otherwise, it's the same over and over.
It's not that outrageous to figure out where Hasbro got the idea, nor to imagine it working, given other models.

Just because it's not what collectors want doesn't mean it will be unsuccessful.

I think, collector opinion aside, what made MLP unique (and thus interesting) was that there were seemingly endless numbers of different ponies, something for every taste. What about a little girl whose favorite color is yellow? Where is her yellow pony in this line? :(

WTF?! No more new ponies...ever..? Not even exclusive holiday ones? WHY?! Why si there no more Minty or Kimono? Why aren't there any new ponies? Whhhyyyyyyyyyyy

Core 7= Very boring pony line. I even love rainbow dash, but am getting real tired of this core 7 thing!

If Hasbro used that idea with the 80's pony line, I doubt it would have seen 10 years.

I'll confess, I opened a new G3 this week for the first time in ages, and I enjoyed the pamphlet inside. I rather liked the fact that each of the Core 7 characters had her own page, featuring all the unique toys/products that feature her.

I've long lamented the lack of comprehensive "backcard" images for the G3s, so in terms of advertising, at least, the Core 7 idea is tickling my fancy. And my fancy loves to be tickled.

Ahh, so that's what the core 7 is all about. I was wondering why I keep seeing the same ponies in the store. Looks like it's not going to end =\ aww, this going to suck, but I don't have Sweetie Belle or StarSong yet, so I guess I'm going to have plenty of chances to get one of them. >_>

I wonder if going to the core 7 is going to increase the value of the G3 ponies that aren't in the core 7. As a collector who is starting to collect some G3's, I wonder this often. I don't want to spend 20 dollars on a daisy paisley!!! lol.

It will be interesting to see how this whole core 7 thing plays out. I'm hoping that perhaps, they will have a few exclusive ponies a year for holidays and such that aren't the core 7.

Hnnn... that's an interesting point. I think there's a chance that the value of non-core 7 ponies will be pushed up, though it might all depend on how well Hasbro pulls off this core 7 thing. *shrug*

I hope they'll bring in some exclusives too. I liked the Winter Series D: I don't want them to stop bring in new, unique winter ponies.

I think the C7 idea is a bad one for the following reasons:

1) MLP has always been about lots of different ponies. They're more fun to play with in "herds", and the line is set up so you can buy a lot without breaking the bank(minimal accessories, relatively small price). The C7 thing doesn't match with how the line has always worked.

2) If the point of having a toy line is to sell as many of that toy as possible, limiting the choices to only 7 different items with only slight variations doesn't make sense.

3) MLP is not Barbie, and even if Hasbro wanted to take it in that direction, they're still doing it wrong. Barbie/Brats/whatever dolls may be released over and over, but they also get massive amounts of accessories, playsets, and other gimics to get you to buy the same doll over and over again. Ponies aren't getting much. The individual ponies are getting only one accessory each, and even the larger sets aren't getting all that much, just some plastic clothes and a handful of accessories. They also arent' supporting the line with a cartoon which really helps if you want to have kids "get to know the characters".

4) Parents and kids aren't stupid. Kids know that they're getting the same pony over and over again, even if they make it look a bit different every time. It's boring to play like that, especially since Hasbro doesn't seem to be making any good playsets or massive accessory sets. And what parent is going to spend money on the same thing over and over again? Parent's aren't clueless when it comes to ponies, and they're going to notice that their kid already has 3 Pinkie Pies and 4 Rainbow Dashes. How many kids are going to hear "you've already got that one" from their parents?

5) Hasbro already had a way to re-release the characters so kids could still get their favorites even after they had moved on to the next set. They gave them new poses and made them into the ponywear sets. They cost about a dollar more per pony, but you got a bunch of accessories with it. They also stuck re-releases in store exclusive packs, bonus packs, and special releases. It wasn't exactly popular with collectors, but it worked.

I think the C7 concept is going to kill the line. It discourages people from buying a lot of ponies, it's as simple as that. They either have to bring back the variety, or support the new direction properly. It's pretty half-baked as it is right now.

Parents also have to watch their money spending with the crazy prices of everything so many will turn down buying duplicates of ponies they know their kids already have to get something else unique for their kid. Whoever goes to the Fair, tell Hasbro that!
