It's been a long time since I really did more than a half-hearted glance at the boards.

I've been having some weird experiences on the pony front lately, which got me thinking about this place, and the collection that's currently packed away in my mother's basement. Except a couple specials who are here in my room.

Lately I've found people I know, in my social circles, people who used to laugh at my collection, who said it was childish, suddenly calling themselves My Little Pony fans and bronies. I ask them why the change in heart and it's always the same. "Friendship is Magic is the best show ever...I love so-and-so from that show she's awesome." I try to have a conversation about ponies with them, but they don't actually know anything about the line, only this one small portion of it, and they aren't the least bit interested in any MLP thing but FiM.

Am I just old and jaded that I think MLP is more than one current kids show? I don't feel these people are actual MLP fans. If you're a fan you are interested in learning about where a thing came from. They are fans of FiM.

Either way, these so called fans made me miss people who actually cared about MLP and so I found my way back here to all of you. There's a lot of names I remember here, it's nice to see them all, and there's new names, and it's nice to see them too.

For those who don't know me, don't remember me, or whatever.

I'm Baby Nightmare. I've been collecting MLP off and on since I was a little girl in the 80's and I got my very first Gusty. She was then, and is now, my favourite MLP, even though the original is in horrible, dog chewed state she holds a special place in my collection and she always will. I couldn't tell you why I have the name I do. She started as a doodle in a school notebook amongst a series I had dubbed "Dream Ponies" alongside Dream Catcher, Dream Weaver, Day Dream, and others long since forgotten. For some reason or another she stuck in my heart and when I joined the Pony Community, I used her name, and that's been me ever since. I'm a Canadian pony currently living in Hamilton, Ontario. I LARP (Live Action Roleplay) and I love every minute of it. I build Gypsy Caravans with my mum sometimes and think working with my hands is one of the best things going. I sew costuming and have recently started to experiment with plushies (Yes, this does mean I will be attempting an MLP plush soon.)

Well that's my return. I'll probably half lurk for a while, being broke means I can't really actively collect anymore, but I still love to look at them.

Welcome back! I remember you!
I don't think there is a wrong way to enjoy anything. The fact that some of these people razzed you for your collection in the past, makes it amusing they now like something "my little pony" themselves. (I know lots that laugh behind my back, it's their choice. I'm just happy enjoying something simple in my spare time.)

I used to say I was the biggest fan, but after the g3's, 3.5's, g4's I don't really collect came out, I figure I can't anymore! I'm a G1 girl. Looks like we're together on that one. :) One positive of people only wanting FiM, it means many won't start collecting the older stuff which will help keep the prices down.

welcome back!! :D

Hello and welcome back too :seahorse:

bigmlpfan xx

Glad to see you again. :) I really really do not like it when people make fun of others for their interests when they don't meet the "coolness factor". I understand many go through that dissing-all-the-childhood-loves phase in teen years as they try to establish themselves as being all grownup and/or "cool", but I didn't like it when I was a teenager (*peers into misty distance* lol) and I do not like it now.

Many of the FiM fans have been open minded, though (those are probably the ones who have joined and take part in the "old school" pony forums) and have embraced the MLP community as a whole. Others are likely here today, gone tomorrow, or whenever FiM loses its coolness factor. And that's fine, too, as long as they don't mock everyone else now or later, in the attempt to re-claim their own coolness (LOL). I do really really dislike that in life in general, pony related or not.

Anyway, welcome back! Pony JOY to ya!

Welcome back! If it's any comfort, although there are a lot of 'fad' Bronies (they like FiM because it's a meme, it's the latest cool thing, whatever), there are some Bronies who are very nice, and even have started to like the older gens of ponies! I know several who are quite curious about G1s/G3s, and they have a few favorites alongside their few favorite G4s toys. :]

I feel much the same as you, sometimes - the line was originally toys, and the cartoon was a commercialized afterthought. Bronies should be mindful of this, especially before they say things like, "Oh, I'd never buy the toys, they're not show accurate/I'm not gay, only gay guys like pony toys." The toys are the reason the cartoon exists at all!!!

Welcome Back :apple: Nice to see another oldie returning.

I haven't really bought any ponies in a long time either :(

Thanks for the welcomes, and glad that I'm not the only one feeling some of the strangeness from it all.

I know that there are some good bronies out there, on teh old forums and so forth. I will alwyas think of them/you as bronies. I just can't think of people who follow it for the "coolness" factor as real fans. As I just described myself to one of them over msn.

I'm an old jaded MLP collector and stop messin' with my childhood.

Different people like different generations. If everyone was exactly alike, life would be more boring.

Welcome back! I remember your name and I'm an old girl who hangs around still. We are still here. I lurk around the boards and hang around in chat mostly. :black_cat:

Heya BabyNightmare.

I agree that a good number of these bronies are somewhat hypocritical, and it seems like we can't discuss other gens in other places without one of them chiming in with something cruel to say. luckily, that isn't the case here!

Hope you feel better about things!

I don't know you,but I am glad to see you)Old fans are best fans, and it's good when you love something since childhood.
And bronies...I hope this fad will die soon. Some of them are good, but most of them...:black_cat:

Welcome back! *hugs*

Meh.....as said in Muppets take Manhattan...."Peoples is peoples." You can't help how others are. Just keep going with what you like, than phooey on the others. lol. That's kind of how I see it. You can't make them love the older gens anymore than they can get you to stop loving them. :)

welcome back, I agree with the others. Although I will always love all gens. I really don't get this FIM attitude with brownies. I think if it wasn't for fans of my little pony. hasbro would of abandoned ship long time ago or tried something else. Cartoons will always be popular with toys its a fact. I do agree though its nice to collect only one generation if you wish. I just hope more people tune into the history of MLP. Instead of not caring its a shame. :/ I also think of that Depeche Mode song "People are people". Thanks for making me think of the song josiekat lol

Welcome back!
I don't care what other people think of my collection!
Ponies make me happy and I am very proud of my collection!

I'm a fellow Ontarian that is an old collector too. I lurk mostly now, as I feel how you do. I started to decline buying near the end of the G3 line. I didn't watch FiM until just this week. Wow, was I behind! I knew about the whole brony thing , but really didn't get what all the fuss was about.

I just finished watching all available FiM episodes to date, and from the MLP cartoon line of things, WOW is this a pony-renaissance! I love how creative, free feeling and just awesome it is to see males/females, relationships, real issues and not so much sheltered real-life stuff (like babies, insanity, etc.) Plus, I loved seeing the phenomenon which is Derpy Hooves. I love her! ^_^

I'm a G1 lady for sure, but I love MLP Tales the most of the pony shows, but now have a special place for FiM. I am so happy to see the creativity flowing, the excitement back again, some willing to take a look back at where ponies were from. As most of the creative juices found in FiM has been around the MLP Community for a long time, in forms of customs, fanfiction, RPGs etc. I'm not talking about the FiM canon, but more about the creative stories, character development that goes beyond, "Hey, let's have a party! Now, be sure to sing a corny pink and frilly song with me!" **shudders** I'm so happy to see humor and expressive pony faces willing to get angry or even snap into sarcasm and twisted mental breakdowns.

Yay for the continuing dynasties of MLP!

Heloo from a Big Brother Pony!

I can say while I am indeed male, I am most certainly NOT a brony! I've been a fan since I saw 'Midnight castle' as a little kid, and have seen every ep of MLP and Friends, Tales, and G3, along with all of the movies and TV specials. All of the college friends are bronies, but I prefer the older shows to the new. I will admit I'm more a fan of the toon than the toys, though! ><

Glad you're back, Baby Nightmare!! :allecto:I'm pretty much a lurker, get on a TP kick every now and then (like now) where I pop in every day, but then I get busy again and the cobwebs collect for a few months.

I'm a G1 oldie, had 'em since the first one hit production. Stopped collecting in my 'growing up' years, but then found them on the internet in 1996 and have been sending my money away for ponies ever since. When the G2's came out, I was excited MLP was back in stores, until I saw them--:eeek: K. So I kept adding to my G1 line on the net and from pony hunting, and my herd got to over 500, plus all the playsets! The G2's went away, and I got busy and didn't do much other than pick up one or 2 around town. Then I wanted a real rescue horse, so I sold my G1's down to about 80 and bought 2 horses! :cheshire: Then, the G3's were out in stores. I liked them, but didn't buy them retail. But I found some at a garage sale, and I was hooked!! Still don't think I've bought any in stores, just online and second hand! My daughter likes the FiM show and the G4's so I have bought some for her. But we don't have HUB, so I haven't really seen the tv show. I did watch the 2 versions of the Derpy Roundup thing that was posted here on the TP; I think that's the most I've seen of the show. I see the G4's in stores and they're cute, but my curio is packed full of my (regrowing) G1's and G3's, no more room! So I don't collect them, and I don't know anything about their TV personalities. But Iz still a fan :D
