From time to time I'll place a want ad on craigslist, as many of us do. While browsing today, I came across this reply to an earlier want ad of mine:

Why do you only want the older ones from the 80s if they are for your daughter? I guess you know that some of the older my little ponys sell on ebay for hundreds of bucks. I call shenanagins on you!!!

Wow. Firstly, I don't have a daughter and would never lie about one to get ponies. So, I never put that in my ad. Thanks for assuming.

Secondly, of course I know the value of G1 ponies! Why do you think I'm posting on craigslist? The same reason everyone does - to get something cheaper than normal! Not that I'd try to rip anyone off, but obviously this poster thinks I added "sell me ponies dirt cheap so I can flip them and laugh at you all the way to the bank" in my ad, which I can guarantee I did not.

Thirdly, the use of the "call shenanigans" phrase isn't widely used outside of this community, which makes me think some fellow collector decided I was getting too close to her "territory" and decided to warn me off. As if a webpage can be territory anyway. I'd hate to see what this person would do if we were to meet at the flea market.

I wish I could find my original ad, but it's too old to come up in the craigslist search. This just ****** me right off though!

Wow. I don't know if I would laugh or be really angry. That's just silly. I tried posting a want ad on craigslist for ponies once. The response I got was: "You can go and buy those on ebay....no one is going to sell them here." I laughed and assumed that it was another collector.

I know! What's up with that? Should I start carrying mace to the flea market to fight off all these people who apparently have more right to ponies than I do?

I suppose I could count my 2 female cats (one is a brand new rescue) as my daughters, but I would be an irresponsible mom if I gave them ponies - they do tend to gag on the hair.

Uhmmm. Okay. What you post on craigslist is your business, first of all. If they don't want to sell to you, they don't have to respond.

I think you may be right. This seems like a person attempting to hoard or corner that market.

Ask them where in your ad did you say they were for your daughter! Ask for a direct link.

Huh??? Wow some people just like to be confrintational for the sake of it. What's it to this person if you only want old ponies. Grrrrr stupif craigslist person.

That's just rude what you advertise to buy is your business and unless they want to sell to you it's none of THEIR business either.

I wouldn't be surprised it's another collector who doesn't want any competition for buying ponies in the area . . . or just your typical weirdo :icon_smile_lachuh:

I'm guessing they thought you were that person who has posted on just about every city's site that they are collecting ponies from the 80's for their daughter. That person really ticks me off. On all the cities near me, in neighboring VA, AL, and NC they have basically the same wanted ad for ponies listed with pics of G1s to show sellers what they look like. Yeah, I'll bet they're collecting them for "their daughter". That is not cool to post on so many citys around the entire southeast when CL is supposed to be for "local" sales. I don't know if they've posted outside of this region, I haven't searched in those areas because I don't live there.

I hope this isn't anyone on here, but if it is...well, I'm not really sorry for saying that. Not cool, is all I have to say about it.

Oooh your shinanigans! (end sarcasm) Really, how is that "shinanigans" if you are honestly posting looking for older ponies only. I find that rediculous that people are that bored to respond to a want ad that they have no intention of following up on. The things that offend people.

I'm sorry that rude person blind sided you with that comment. If they only knew what a nice person you are. You didn't deserve it. They were the Grinch.

I have to contradict here, at least for my area, this phrase is extremely widely used.

That little nugget aside, I completely agree with you that this is a rude response. I hate people being so mean and negative like that.

that is very rude and inconsiderate of them to say such things. if they are not a collector themselves, why say anything at all. they had no right to email you to tell you that. you are free to post a want ad asking for old mlp toys. i have posted a want ad myself, but i have had a few with g1s and they wanted to much or never heard back again. i even told them how to identify it as a real 80s pony, but i ended up with someone selling me the big lot of g3s i got earlier this year. i have gotten a few emails from people telling me to look on ebay. if i wanted to buy ponies on ebay i would be, but craigslist would be easier for me. some people are just dumb.

That same person posted in my city.. that was ticking me off to. I had the same reaction, but didn't say anything. They might have you confused with that person.

I've seen a similar ad in the Pittsburgh listings many times. It does irritate me, but I can't pinpoint why.

I browse every few days or so and will inquire if something catches my eye. I've gotten a few things over the years - one large lot for $50, the Wilton cake pan, and the sewing machine. I don't post ads, though, because I really don't have much extra money right now to be spending on ponies.

That just made my day. :D Thank you!

Hello. I am searching for the older my little ponies by hasbro (1980's-90's) I loved them as a child and still love them today and I am starting a collection of them for my daughter. Please let me know if you have any stored away you want to give to a home where they will be truly cherished. Please include some kind of price if you know how much you will be asking. Thanks so much and hope to hear from you :) I will also send you some pictures if you think you have some and need to know what they look like!
Is this the ad from CL is you are all talking about? It's posted in the Baltimore area as well. This really annoys me now that I know they are posting it all over the US. Which I thought was not allowed? I didn't think CL allowed multiple ads all saying the same thing.

I think it is most definitely a collector. However I think it's pretty rude and greedy to post an ad like that in every city. How do you explain to the person, oh wait you actually will have to ship these to me because I don't live anywhere near you. CL is for local sales. That's the point.

And seriously, get a life. Who as time to sit around and make that many wanted posts for MLP?
And more importantly, who has the money these days? That kills me... lol I guess some people have money to blow. Must be nice...

So.. IMO- Skeen I would totally bet that message was not meant for you!

*edit* I was bored and did some searching. This person is pretty clever I guess you could call it. They change their paragraphs and pictures enough that is gets past the spam control of CL.

I don't live in the States obviously but thought you have to stay to your area isn't that the point of CL? I agree with everybody else that's cheeky to get around the rules like that and pretty darn greedy too . . .

That wanted ad sweetiebabyfizzy has put in their post reminds of of a thread over on the Arena while back about a lady advertsing to find a cheap Repunzel for their daughter :uhoh:

The farthest I go on Craigslist to post in VA which is right at the border and not a far drive for me if someone happens to have ponies. It hasn't done much good for me either way because whenever someone replies and says they have some, I ask for photos and they never get back to me which tells me their either lying or just wasting my time. That response sounds like a fellow collector who is just jealous of competition. This is why I mainly stick to ebay and pony boards for sales.
