I think I just got told off on craigslist!

I can agree with "time wasters" on CL. I've tried buying and selling on there and honestly nothing has come from it. This CL poster must have an obscene amount of free time. Kind of scary if you ask me, there are so many better things you could be doing with your time. Especially since most people on CL will just give you the run around. I couldn't imagine the time that it must take to go through all the emails!

Oh yeah.. and to the person that it looking for "cheap" ponies for their kids? PLEASE! Go to walmart they sell plenty of cheap ponies in stores.

Hahaha, exactly! Or failing that, check out a thrift store or flea market, if you want cheap cheap, you know where to go. CL isn't freecycle... maybe they're confused.

Is this the ad from CL is you are all talking about? It's posted in the Baltimore area as well. This really annoys me now that I know they are posting it all over the US. Which I thought was not allowed? I didn't think CL allowed multiple ads all saying the same thing.

I think it is most definitely a collector. However I think it's pretty rude and greedy to post an ad like that in every city. How do you explain to the person, oh wait you actually will have to ship these to me because I don't live anywhere near you. CL is for local sales. That's the point.

And seriously, get a life. Who as time to sit around and make that many wanted posts for MLP?
And more importantly, who has the money these days? That kills me... lol I guess some people have money to blow. Must be nice...

So.. IMO- Skeen I would totally bet that message was not meant for you!

*edit* I was bored and did some searching. This person is pretty clever I guess you could call it. They change their paragraphs and pictures enough that is gets past the spam control of CL.

YES, that's the person! They do change their wording and the pics in some of the postings. They think they're so clever. I have flagged every single one of their postings I've found, hoping CL will look into it at some point. Probably not, but I tried. *shrugs*

I have to contradict here, at least for my area, this phrase is extremely widely used.

Ditto. The term shenanigans is used here a lot, as well, especially by my husband and his friends, and none of them like ponies. I think they picked it up off of Family Guy or something.

Anyways, what that person said was rude, and I'd be irked, as well.

Yeah... I flagged some as well. I don't think there is anyway that CL will be able to see that it's spamming unless they can see that it's all coming from the same IP address.

Hello peeps. Well I replied to one of those persons adds for the heck of it who seems to post alot and asked a couple questions because it seems to be causing all us confusion and some irritated people lol. I had asked if she is collector and knew about these boards or ebay? If shes had alot of offers from her posts and why she has posted in different areas because there has been alot of concern about spamming and if she asks everyone to ship to her.

Here was the response:

Hello. Im assuming you must be another collector from your questions :) To answer your questions, Yes, I am collector and I am starting to add to my childhood ponies for my daughter for when she gets a little older (I much more prefer the looks of these over newer ones) although she is already starting to love them. I am not a part of the mentioned sites and I have never been a fan of ebay and have scarcely used it therefore I use craigslist instead. I honestly have not had that many offers maybe 3 small sets total as several people it seems have gotten rid of their childhood toys already and no I rarely ask people to ship.

I post in several areas for different reasons, I do not like ebay, I have relatives that travel quite a bit in very many states and they have offered to pick things up for me if they happen to be around that area at the given time I may get an offer. I have only had a lot shipped to me once and other than that havent gotten many offers like I said 3. Also if I already have acquired most of the ponies I have been offered then I pass on a lot so someday someone else can have them. I am just wanting to get as many as I can of the ones we dont have we dont need triples or anything lol. Sorry if I caused any concern but I hope this clarifies your questions. Thanks and have a great day :)

Ok so my two cents on this? Even though it is kind of annoying I guess it still would be considered to be legit and not really spamming since she actually has people to pick things up for her and hey she says she will pass on things if she already has them so she must not be too greedy (since she doesnt use ebay or boards must not be a reseller) Knowing this makes me feel a wee better anyways and hope it does for all you as well. Besides I myself have known alot of other collectors who go look at other peoples CL postings in different towns and actually ASK them to ship to them so this doesnt really differ at all and in my opinion is more fair since the items are being picked up. Also to those of you who say you do flag alot be careful because it has been confirmed that your IP will have a very high risk of being blocked from using craigslist for anything if you flag too much which is why I never flag anymore unless its truly spam!

Well, it's nice she explained everything like that and wasn't snarky at all. I still find it annoying, though. You are not supposed to post wanted ads in so many different cities around the country, that is just not the way CL is supposed to be used. Even if she has people who will pick them up for her, she should do the work of searching all those cities herself for sale ads and contact them individually if she wants to search such wide areas.

Just seems like she's trying to create a monopoly on CL ponies by posting EVERYWHERE like that. Doesn't leave much room for the rest of us to post wanted ads in our own cities. *shrugs*

I've seen that same ad here on the Philadelphia listings.

I won't defend what the person is doing. It's greedy and yes- very annoying. If they're a collector- they should know better, know to give others a chance at CL ponies.

Skeen- I'm sorry you had to get that snarky response.

I know this has nothing to do with ponies.

But i have ads listed in multiple states to promote my business. I think I have a total of 5 or 6 of them. And they are all different. But the products don't get shipped from my house they get shipped from GC straight to the persons door. I can understand if you like had your own business but not looking for ponies. and I agree, if you want to be cheep cheep then go to goodwill!

Well.. at least the multi-state poster was nice. If you have people that travel, I guess it's alright to post in other states then. It just felt kinda greedy and territory-infringing when she was all over like that. I was like "Hey! Save some for the rest of us, woman!"

I actually responded to her ad before I realized she was posting everywhere.. she never got back to me. I guess it is because she was wanting cheap cheap. Ah well.

I just went and checked PA craigslist cities, and that person has an ad everywhere. Starting to wonder if the person actually has a daughter or not....also hoping they are her own pics and not someone else's.

From CL Terms of Use:

craigslist terms of use

p) that disrupts the normal flow of dialogue with an excessive amount of
Content (flooding attack) to the Service, or that otherwise negatively
affects other users' ability to use the Service; or
v) post non-local or otherwise irrelevant Content, repeatedly post the
same or similar Content or otherwise impose an unreasonable or
disproportionately large load on our infrastructure;

w) post the same item or service in more than one classified category or
forum, or in more than one metropolitan area;
I think it is one thing to post in areas that are close to you. For example I live in Baltimore, but I might also want to post in DC because it is a close drive to me.

This person however, is posting in all major cities all over the United States from CA to FL. Honestly, "I have family/people that travel a lot" sounds very fishy to me. I highly doubt anyone has that many people that can possible reach every major city in the USA.

This person is technically, breaking the CL terms of use. Flooding and hoarding the markets and not following the rules of dealing LOCALLY.

It annoys me yes. I still think it's quiet rude and greedy. Hopefully this person will be just another "fair weather" collector, buying up a bunch of ponies then getting bored and selling them all a year later.

Eh, anyways. I'm not really buying ponies right now because I need to spend my money on more important things. So it's not making me as angry as it might if I was also really on the market looking for ponies.

So whatever.... :catdevious:

*edit* I'm so bad... I made an ad in my area just for the heck of it! mmuuuaahhaahahahaha :catdevious:

(Hi guys, i am a more active member on the arena and i have posted here only a few times in the intro section, but i saw this thread and just had to respond!)

I just checked my craigslist area grand rapids MI, and that person has three ads posted in my area alone! she just worded her ads differently, but they all say the same things, just sentences switched around... that is very irritating. i was so irritated i posted my own want ad LOL :fishslap:

That is very strange that this person is not part of the pony community at all.. hmm makes me think they are a reseller or something. im not sure. that just weirds me out. especially since they say they dont use ebay, thrift stores or flea markets either... why are they so interested in cornering the pony market anyway?

They seriously have way too much time on their hands especially because the posts themselves only last 30 days  and if she has posts everywhere, then that means she is reposting in like every city each month! as i said she has three ads just in my city!! so rude.

just flag the listings as they are in literally almost every state.

I'm in southern Indiana an d have seen those same ads listed on the Craigslist here and in Kentucky. I was suspicious of them even before I found out that she posts in every state. I've always suspected that she's a reseller. Don't know why, I just doubted that she was collecting for her daughter.

I'm not convinced she isn't part of the pony community and just doesn't want to come forward. Can't blame her, though. She's ticked off alot of people. I'd just like to see her stop posting around the entire US and stay in her own area like you're supposed to do on CL. If it's true she's only gotten a couple small lots from her flood of want ads, then why does she still bother?

Agree! What I'm saying is I couldn't imagine how much time it would take to sift through those email responses!!! And the time it takes to update that many ads. It's crazy!

dont forget a lot of people who do reply to the craigslistings, they are not serious about them. they never reply back to you or call you. they are a bunch of flakers if you plan a day and time to meet. they are there to waste your time. so i hope she has been getting a bunch of flakers not wanting to meet her to give up some great ponies.

just curious, cause she doesnt have any listed in my area, can someone post one in theirs so i can see what she is posting up on it.

OT - My husband & his friends got the use of the term shenanigans from the movie "Super Troopers." It's actually pretty hilarious in the context of the movie...

Back on topic - thanks to all for the research done. This CL poster posts on all 3 boards in my area & it has been quietly annoying me.
