We know that all the holidays are coming, but not just Thanksgiving & Christmas

What are some of your holidays that are coming up and their traditions?

Do you have your own kind of holiday, like Friendsgiving?

Let us know! Maybe we can all celebrate
something new this year!

One of the holidays that i've slowly started to celebrate is 3 Kings Day with my boyfriend (He is Puerto Rican) on January 6th. We dont really do anything for it yet, but when/if we have children is when we will get to celebrate it the way he used to when he was a child.

So January 6th is when the three kings came to see the baby right?

WELL

If you go outside and pick grass and put it in a shoe box and set it outside your door for the camels to eat.
The three kings will bring you a gift too ;)

That’s interesting! Cause January 6th is the day my dads family (and then us) celebrate Little Christmas. The tree doesn’t come down until after that, when we were little out parents would give us gifts that were more practical, like school supplies, books, sometimes shoes. Now we usually just each exchange one gift. And we always make Christmas cookies one last time for the the season and watch Christmas movies

My goal is to have the Christmas stuff down before Valentines day :lolpony:  but honestly, it's so much work to decorate as much as I do and I love nothing more than to come home from work and sit by the light of nothing but the tree and village. So relaxing so I don't care, I leave it up!
Aside from the big days, I don't think I really do anything all that special or different. I do have 2 extra traditions, I host a wrapping party for friends. I cook up a bunch of yummies and set up wrapping stations around the living room and friends come over and we eat, drink and wrap our presents while watching movies. I always buy tons of wrap and accoutrements after Christmas when they are cheap so all my guests do is bring their gifts and I have piles of wrap and bows everywhere.
I also drive out to the mountains with one of my best friends every year to watch this particular theater perform A Christmas Carol and we shop a little and go to dinner, that's become a favorite tradition for us.

Yup! I assume his parents started it cause they didn’t wanna give the “boring” stuff on Christmas morning lol (though i always liked getting cute new notebooks and pencil pouches and stuff :D). Nice :lolpony: If it was up to me the tree would be up till February haha
@Gingerbread aw that sounds like fun! A little Christmas road trip:D

We always have our best friends over and we watch Godzilla movies on Xmas! Usually my step daughter comes up from San Antonio to join us, but sadly this year she can't. It'll be a bit odd without her, but we always have fun so we'll figure it all out. We have very laid back time, eating goodies and bumming around. LOL.

We usually go see Xmas lights at one of the big displays and it's always so beautiful. There's loads of lights we put out here at home, because we love to light up the whole county! Typically we leave everything up until January 13th. When ActionHank was a wee Hanklette, all he wanted for his birthday one year was for us to leave the tree up until his birthday Jan 12th, so it's an annual tradition now. I'm usually pretty glad to take it down because my cats are drawn to the tree like moths to a flame. It can be a horrorshow. :D

Oh man, I wish someone would do that for me. We have ages old paper that we keep from the years before and just keep using it lol. I bet it’s fun though and I bet some people learned how to wrap there too. I can wrap, but it’s never really pretty lol

@Sassarazzmadazzles I love this thread! So fun to see everyone's traditions.

@evilbunnyfoofoo Since 2012 we've been tying the top of our tree to the ceiling ever since our previous cat knocked over the Christmas tree twice!

I love putting up our tree. We usually go pick it out the week after Thanksgiving and then go to IHOP for pancakes and hot chocolate.

The past several years I've made a pony Advent calendar for my daughter with Cutie Mark Crew or Ponyville or something tiny like that.

Christmas day is so crazy busy. We go around visiting family members at 4 different houses, drive 3 hours to eat submarine sandwiches and Christmas cookies at my grandma's house, and then drive 8 hours to spend a week at my inlaws' house. Since it gets so crazy, I started wrapping 12 little gifts for my husband and daughter and they open one every day leading up to Christmas so we can have more "family time" and chill at home. We sit around and drink cocoa and watch movies or decorate cookies, and it makes my little introverted heart happy.

For Twelfth Night on Jan. 6 we take the Christmas tree, outside lights and all the decorations down and have apple cider and chili and get the house ready for my birthday on Jan. 9, and that kind of ends our holiday season.

Oh man, I’m so happy I don’t really have to go anywhere on Christmas Day lol. When my grandparents were alive, we would go to their house on Christmas Eve and have our big family Christmas there. But after they passed my family fell apart so we don’t do that anymore.

I’m happy you like this thread, I thought it was a fun idea ❤️

We always put the Christmas decorations up 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, This year we are running late on that... I have 1 week exactly to get the decoration out. next Tuesday mom will start some of the cooking before hand so its all set up and ready for Thanksgiving. We will leave the Christmas decorations up till Before Valentines Day so like Beginning of Feb end of Jan we take it down. We don't usually do a wrapping party per say but we watch movies while wrapping each others gifts and eat some snacks cause there are a lot of gifts to wrap. On Christmas Eve we have the whole family over for Christmas. that means
  • 2 My Grandpa and Granny (My mom's mom and Aunt Monica's Mom)
  • 2 My Great Aunt Jean & this year My Great Aunt Bonnie (My Granny's Sisters)
  • 2 My Aunt Monica & Uncle Rob
  • 2 My cousin Gina (My Best friend) & her Boyfriend Jim
  • 6 My Cousin Mike and his wife Jenn there twins Ashford & Geneva + there 1st kid together Juniper + Mikes first Kid, Lexi.
  • 4 Dan (My Brother) & his wife April there 2 kids Ava and Ella
  • 3 Mom, Tammy & I
That's a Total of 21 this year at the dinner table. after dinner we play a game of dice. I forget how many min the dice goes around, but if you get doubles you pic a gift from the middle of the table. if someone has 2 gifts at the end that person must hand the one person who has 0 gifts a gift so that everyone can have a gift from the middle of the table. its a gift card inside the gift from a surprise place and there are 3 rounds.
After the dice game we unwrap regulars Christmas gifts and then go play games such as Zilch another dice game or Dominos Train that takes hours, or Relative Insanity, That's really funny to play.

I love hearing about everyone’s traditions! My family and I don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving so when I was a kid we used the time off school to go on family vacations. The tradition stuck around, so this year we’re going to Hawaii. Now I’m just biding my time until Christmas…
