Oooh! Yay more Frank Baum!
I love the shape of her eyes!
I don't hink you should start again, she is a gorgeous colour.
I'm just kinda confused about the blue around the Emerald city?! (sorry now I feel bad!)
I like your idea, I'm working on an Ozma pony and shes real tricky because you want to get it juuust right!

Good luck!

Wow, I wouldn't strip down and start over, it looks amazing! I love that you used a Totsy fakie, LOL!
I just have a few suggestions, if you were asking for them... :)
I too think the blue is a bit confusing. If I were you, and of course you may disagree, as I'm totally not atistic at all, but I'd paint emerald over the blue, and just do a thicker black outline around the emerald city to make it stand out.

Looks wonderful either way though!

wow look at that brick road! Looks great so far! I'd agree with more black outlines to break it up a bit more. I wouldn't start over.

You've come this far Dorothy, can't stop now! Maybe if you tell me what you don't like about it I could be more help.
The colors are cheerful and the design elements (road, Emerald City, forest of snarky trees, the field of poppies and the ruby slippers) are easy to ID. What's not to love?
If I would critique it at all I'd say fine brush around the slippers with a contrasting color to make them pop.
It's painstaking, eye-crossing work to sit there and dab on a tiny outline with a brush the size of a flea's ear, but well worth it in the end.

I love that you've chosen one of my favorite fakie types as a canvas, too.

Will she have a rainbow somewhere when she's through?

Heh. Because I don't just want easy to ID, I want PERFECTION, but I'm not that good a painter.

Well, I don't like the house at all... and looking back at the pictures, i realize why nobody's commenting on that! Put 2 views of the same area instead of one of the chest. So I'll throw that in here now.

I think the suggestions about outlining the city will help me like that area more. Would you outline the shoes with a lighter green? I think black will work okay for the city but not so well for the shoes....
Hadn't planned to put in a rainbow, but mostly because I hadn't thought of it... maybe arching over the city?

i think she looks great! don't give up! :) i can't wait to see her finished.

the hair could be rainbow!

[edit]
ack! I should have read what Kar posted...
So I, erm, second that.

Ok you made me chuckle WS. Thanks I needed that it's been a crap day!
If it's perfection you want, perfection you shall have. :eek:k:
Can you possibly retake the house photo? :?:
Camera's got the pony blurred and the light bulb on the right is in perfect focus. *g*
Mine does that to me too sometimes, drives me nuts trying to get the lens to "see" what I want it to see. Got the macro setting on?

i'll think on this a bit and get back to you in the AM.

Maybe the hair could be the rainbow

In theory, yes.. but i probably can't post them until tomorrow night, because my computer at home is stupidvista and will NOT talk to my camera card reader; I have to take it to work to get the photos off the camera. I might steal my bf's cell phone and see if that camera will get it.

hmmm. rainbow hair... i was planning to do dark green with yellow stripes, but that can easily be changed at this point.

what if you put green glitter around the emerald city to make it pop?

I can wait if you can :smiley_duck:
Nah don't even frustrate yourself with the cell phone pics, they're mostly low res images anyway and I'd love to see the minute details if I can. While you'e retaking I'd love to see the roofs/tops of the buildings in Emerald City, without the glare.

How about adding a little touch of ruby red microglitter to those ruby slippers?
I might have some if you need. From what I can tell from the blurry pic the house needs a little munchkinland background, and possibly some shutters or shingles. And ooh how about a patch of corn plants somewhere between the house and the woods?

I did the slippers in a metallic paint, and the green background too, so they're pretty shiny... but it doesn't show well in the pictures. I don't think i've seen microglitter...is that something Michael's would have? I know the drug store here doesn't, but that's not surprising, they're pretty limited on art stuffs. I've got some fairly coarse "craft" glitter paints that I think are intended for kids, they're really hard to get a smooth layer with.

heheheh. shingles... you have SO much more faith in my ability to paint detail than I have! I'll give the shutters a try. Think I need to do something about the blue back ground on that too... maybe i'll try to paint corn stalks in around the house?

WOw I really like the finished custom! So much detail in it!
