Hasbro has a piece in the New York Times today about it. It includes an image, which I'll let you go look at over at Derpy Hooves News in case you feel this is spoilers: First Official Equestria Girls Artwork Published | Derpy Hooves News
Interesting quote:
>But adult fans have also pushed to take more control of the brand, creating unauthorized digital games and plush toys that company executives eventually quashed.
>“They don’t mind having this fan base, but they can’t forget their core market,†said Jim Silver, editor in chief of timetoplaymag.com, which covers the toy industry. “These are waters you have to navigate very carefully.â€
This is in reference to Fighting is Magic and two plushie sellers (I believe one being White Dove). NYT makes it sound like we're trying to wretch control of what they make from them, and it's sort of true. White Dove made THOUSANDS a month on these custom plushies, and now Hasbro is making their own excellent plushies through licensers.
The comment on the core market is interesting, since I see a lot of people (both bronies and collectors) forget that little girls are still the major purchaser of the toys and watcher of the show.
So, thoughts on Equestria Girls? I think it's interesting that they keep wings, but not unicorn horns. Their hair is also long enough to look like their tails, too.
