Do you like the generation 4 pony toys?

Alright let me start off by saying I love FiM! The show is witty, well written, and it appeals to all ages which is a hard thing to do. The characters have a variety of personalities and teach wonderful life lessons. While I'm a gen3 fan girl, I really enjoy and appreciate gen4.

However I'm not so big on the toys. Please don't get me wrong the wide eyes and bright smiles are adorable! The cutie marks are original and creative. I have a a small army of them forming on my book shelf. I just don't like how small they are. I know they're made for smaller hands but I can't hold them as well as my gen3 or gen1 ponies. I'm also saddened by the lack of poses. They look cut and paste to me. Its the same thing with the blind bags. Now again don't get me wrong, I looove the blind bags and I understand why they all have the same molds but why didn't Fluttershy get her own mold? Also I wish there wasn't as much focus on the main 6. Now I know they're the center of the show but I wish we could put the spotlight on some other ponies.

And I just have to throw this in...why is there is so much pink Celestia. I know little girls love pink but I think they and everyone else would appreciate the accurate white Celestia :madpony:

I am happy to see Hasbro has been adding more accurate Celestia toys and I believe a Fluttershy mold is coming soon! I also like how they're catering to fans with background character toys. I saw a lovely Ocativa plush at Walmart the other day and I was thrilled! So to wrap up my rant I really do like gen 4. I enjoy collecting the toys and blind bags, I'm just not as happy with it as I'd like to be.

So what are your thoughts?

I really love the G4s (heck, I even love G3.5. I never met a pony I didn't like!) but I do agree, more variety in the poses would be nice. I understand they're trying to cut corners by using the same molds over and over, but I like having more to choose from. You look at past gens, and we had a veritable plethora of poses! G4? A mere handful.

That being said, you're right. Hasbro does seem to be branching out, at least with the blind bags. We're seeing a lot more sculpts now, which is a real delight. I mean, how many variations of colours do we need on the same pony?

I also wish we'd get more brushables than the Mane Six over and over. I really enjoyed the Playful Pony and Traveling series, where we got different ponies! And the pets. Oh how I love the little pets!

I'm guilty of having a few 3.5 ponies, I find them really cute :satisfied:

If they gave us just a few more poses to choose from I'd be thrilled! I think if they'd stop cutting corners and gave us more option they would make back their money and so much more.

I love my little blind bag ponies but I have 30 different colored ponies that all look like Twilight and whats the fun in that?. Its nice to see different poses like Granny Smith and Gilda. It adds a little variety to the herd.

I do too! I love Lulu Luck and Lily Blossom. There are hundreds of ponies out there from different generations but there is still lots of inspiration in the world for many more. I also wish they would sell popular ponies like DJ or Derpy as individual brushables. I know a lot fans would go nuts over them!

Oh the pets were so cute! They're such a nice little bonus. I hope we get more of them

Cutting corners is right!! First they nix the forelocks, now they're just blistered against a card...and haven't been any new pony characters since the Wedding singles right?

It makes me miss the G3 line more and more... you definitely got more pony for your money! They were twice the size, different poses, lots of hair and tinsel, came in a box with gorgeous artwork- not to mention stories about the ponies that were a paragraph long and not just two sentences..... all for the same price of a G4

I must say though, I AM impressed with the TY beanie babies of them. Actual doll hair and nice details

Still... I believe Hasbro can DEFINITELY do much better then this... especially with the growing and intense popularity. All the money spent making those creepy Equestria Girl dolls could have been used to better the quality of the ponies instead, and more pose variety in the Blind Bag series

I personally am not a fan of G4s period, I just don't like the look of them.

I couldn't agree with you more. Smaller pony, thinner hair, and less personality for the same price. I noticed the back stories are only a sentence or two. Generation three made a story for each pony. I like the gen 4 toys but there is so much potential they're missing by cutting corners.

I would LOVE a gen 4 beanie baby! They look so cute and very well done :smilepony:

I don't mind the Equestria Girls very much. I wish they weren't so skinny and disproportional but that's another rant. I hope with all the popularity of the show they will make better quality ponies and a wider variety of them.

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you like the look of them?

Personally I think gen 4 ponies are cute but they look a little cat-like to me.

My thoughts on the G4 toyline exactly. Except for the blind bags, I honestly don't care much about them (probably because there aren't any around here, admittedly) and the fact that Hasbro seems to be making them out to be as, if not more important than the main line, drives me nuts. I understand that the blind bags are much cheaper to produce, but still, the discrepancy is so great that it's hard for me to forgive it.

I pretty much gave up on expecting anything worthwhile from the main G4 toyline as soon as it became clear there was no communication between the show makers and Hasbro. Couldn't the background ponies have been actual toys from the beginning, instead of included just to make the fans happy? On that note, couldn't the few non-Mane 6 ponies Hasbro released become side characters on the show, or background ponies in the very least? I've asked this before and I ask again: where the heck is Lily Blossom, dangit??

Nowhere was this more obvious than the Favorites Collection. Hasbro did not release a Nightmare Moon toy because she was an important character in the show (even if she was redeemed right in the first episode) and it only made sense to do so. No, they did it because she was "popular with the fans" or something along those lines. Like if they only released a Megatron, or Starscream toy in a given Transformers line if they proved to be popular enough. Being the major villains of the fiction would have nothing to do with it.

...I need to stop talking about this, I get really negative when discussing the G4 line. :surprisepony: Sorry about that.

I agree. They put a lot more effort into making blind bags then they do brushables. I adore blindbags but they're 4$ where I live! That's almost as much as a brushable and don't see the point in paying so much something less than half the size and cheaply made.

Why was Lily Blossom included in the McDonalds toys and never touched in the show? I also agree completely with you on this. It would be great if they added some toys as side characters or side characters as toys. Fans would be happy, collector would be happy, and Hasbro would be happy with the money they make

They need to be more consistent with their toys. Nightmare Moon was a major villain so make a toy to go along with the show, not with fans. Why don't they have a toy of Discord and Sombra yet? Why aren't there more toys of Luna? And I'll say it one last time, why couldn't they have made Celestia white from the start? The inconsistencies really make collecting gen 4 tough.

Thank you for your input! I want to know everyone's opinion positive or negative :satisfied:

Don't care too much for them. Very cheap and with no quality. Hasbro is very pathetic! Plus I still have a problem with the fact that they really don't look like ponies but a weird mutant.

The quality is low especially compared to past generations. Its to bad because it has so much potential! I never heard them called mutants before

I never would have guessed so many people don't like them!

When I was little I started towards the end of g3 and stopped playing with them as g3.5 came out. It mostly because till this day they kind if freak me out with the way that the brush able ones heads are bigger then the body... I guess it's just a personal thing.

I will always only collect the G1's as I love them & have a history with them.

Saying that I do think the G4's are cute. I agree that they need some more pose's though.
I haven't actually seen one up close but I like small ponies so that wouldn't bother me :p

I don't really care for G4. I find everything about them to be generally uncreative, from the bodies to the colors to the names to the cutie marks. I actually didn't intend on buying any until my mom gave me Snowcatcher as a gift (I have to say, I do like Snowcatcher). Now I have a small collection of them, just because. But I miss the variety of G3 (I grew up with G3, so there may be some bias). They all had very different poses and color schemes, as well as cute, unique names (Toola Roola or Tink-a-Tink-a-Too, anyone?), and I always liked their little background stories. Not to mention they were more horse-like, and higher quality. The G4s look cheap and remind me of deer. Or mice. Or a weird combination of both.

I do love FiM; I think it's very well done, but I'm not a huge fan of the toys.

If you put a gen4 against a gen1 the gen1 looks like a giant!

Snowcatcher is very beautiful! Hasbro has always done well with Christmas/winter themed ponies.:smilepony: I'm also pretty biased with gen3. Its my favorite generation and I think it has the widest variety of ponies to obtain. Gen4 has the potential to be as unique has gen3 and other generations but they're just not aiming for that.

On a side note, Tink-A was my favorite pony when I was a younger because of her name. :satisfied:

I don't think they're creepy...I actually want one...really badly...as in I MUST HAVE ONE OR I WILL DIEEEE:LOL::LOL::LOL:

They have beautiful outfits I just wish they were a little more life like. I'm pretty sure you can pick them all up on amazon or at Walmart :smilepony:

As someone who has collected since childhood and grew up being spoiled by G1..... as much as I like G4.... the one thing that has always (and will always) make me upset is the sheer SIZE of them. In this case, after G3.... less certainly is NOT more.

We need variety.... NOT just the mane 6 / main characters all of the time. All of their predecessors had such VARIETY (not just in poses as others have mentioned, but the characters.... so many to collect, they were endless in G1 and G3!). Right now, for Hasbro to give us someone different is not only a miracle, it's like pulling teeth. We just now got a second version of Sunset Shimmer and frankly, I can't wait to buy her.

I don't really like much with the G4s. They're really tiny and I don't like the lack of diversity in the ponies released. It's been mostly the mane 6 over and over with sometimes other background ponies. Princess Celestia is sometimes pink (although I've seen her white as well), and has anyone noticed that Princess Luna's body tends to be purple and not navy blue?

And yeah, there's the blind bags available, but I personally don't "count" those as real ponies in my mind. I guess if I can't brush their manes, they don't matter? And a lot of them seem to be recoloured versions of mane 6 moulds.

I don't care for the art in Friendship is Magic, though that might be personal preference. It just reminds me too much of the Powerpuff Girls.

I think any run's going to have some problems, though. I really love G3 for the variety of brushables available, but unicorn and pegasus ponies are pretty scarce compared to the sheer number of Earth ponies.
