diet's madness predictions

Wow, I am kind of shocked that SF didn't make it! And actually, I am kinda glad that Comet Tail won the heat. In my opinion, she's prettier than Starflower. :D And is less boring. Her colors ROCK! 8)

Soo, hooray for Comet Tail! :D

I would *love* to see Secret Wish make it to the final but I think it's going to come down between Whistle Wishes and Brights Brightly.

I swear I am the only person who doesn't like Starflower! I was all excited until I actually saw her in stores and was disappointed, she's just kind of... blah. *ducks flying fakies*

*throws confetti* Now Whistle can win! :D Sorry to all the Rarity fans, but I'm so happy! ^_^ Now I don't have to worry about a stupid pinky blah unicorn taking over my lovely Whistle Wishes. ^^ Sorry if I offend the Rarity fans but Hasbro knows better than to make the first unicorn pink. Her hair's pretty though, just wish she was... I dunno...white! Oooo! She'd be SO pretty white! DARN HASBRO! :x

Ok enough of my blabbering!

EDIT: This is OT but I'm at 666 posts! XD LOL!

what's wrong with pink? :x

things i don't like in madness voting:
1. color racism
2. species racism
3. popularity racism

i'm sure a bunch of people who voted for silver rain only did so BECAUSE she was the underdog, not necessarily because she was better-looking than rarity. rarity has pink, rainbows, sparkles, hearts, super-long hair and a horn. if you had to pick only ONE pony to represent all that is "my little pony" (and that includes from a NON-collector's perspective), it would be rarity. sure, white and dark blue is a nice color combo, but her name doesn't fit and her symbol is terrible, so she has nothing else going for her.

Diet, racism is a very strong word, one that shouldn't be just tossed around, and moreover, one that doesn't fit here. *Popularity* racism? I understand what you are getting at, but it literally makes no sense.

Just.. it's a strong, specific word. Don't use it so lightly, please. :)

Having said that, I weep for Secret Wish. WEEP.

I voted for Silver Rain just because I think she's prettier than Rarity. That's how I do my votes- whichever one is more attractive to the eye, I vote for.

I have to say I agree with Spoosh- I think "Bias" would have been a better word to use than "racism".

I actually did not vote in the Rarity - Silver Rain contest because I don't like either of them. If Rarity was more a G1 - Pinwheel pink with simular hair, I would have been all over her. Or if Silver Rain had a symbol of...well...SOMETHING reflecting her name, again I would probably have voted for her. But as it was, neither gal gave me the "wow" factor.

"bias" implies they're actually considering the other option as a possibility. it really seems like some people around here would rather rip out their toenails than vote for a pony that's pink/popular/an earth pony.

hahha true enough. My apologies :)

I always vote for the pony I like. I like Rarity. I like Brights. That's just what I like.

I thought it was funny with all the complaints about pink and then we voted in Fluttershy as the #1 pony in 2004. It still makes me giggle.

Between Rarity and Brights, I'd vote Brights. I love yellow ponies. I'm not even a big fan of the color yellow! Frankly, I kind of hate it on other things, but I love yellow ponies. Butterscotch, Crumpet, Lofty, Tic-Tac-Toe, G3 Butterscotch, Kiwi-Tart, Candy Apple, Brights, and so on.

I also like blue ponies, but Silver Rain didn't do anything for me. I'm glad other people like her, but she's just not for me.

There are some folks are just going to vote for the species they like better, esp. if it's new. Look back at the year Cloud Climber won; Thistle Whistle got further ahead than I believe she would have if she hadn't been a pegasus. (I remember a lot of "well so-and-so is prettier but since TW is a peg I'll go with her" votes). And a pegasus won the madness (of course her Glory coloring helped, too)[/i]

The thing that I have found odd in the voting is that some people don't vote for a pony whose symbol doesn't match their name, and other people don't vote for a pony whose symbol matches their name (because it wasn't creative enough, I guess). For example, not voting for Silver Rain because her symbol has nothing to do with silver or rain...or not voting for Starflower because her symbol is a flower. I'm probably the only person who likes Silver Rain's symbol. It's different from any other symbol and it has typical things that you associate MLPs with (flowers and ribbons). I can see how other people wouldn't like it though.

I'll just quote what I said in the other thread:

Voted for Silver Rain. Her colours are just more pleasing to my eye.. And pop! While Rarity just sorta.. Blends into herself. So, yeah.. I go with Silver Rain. =3

I just go with what catches my eye.. And not swayed towards the newest.. They're all on equal ground in my book, since this is the first time I'm seeing most of them. lol.. *hiatus*

Let's admit it--Rarity is overrated. She was the first unicorn out the gate, so she was popular for that reason, but honestly, I think she looks like a bad eBay custom with all her glitter and sparkles. Just a tad overdone.

I think calling this "racism" is exaggeration and is offensive on so many levels. Comparing color preference in an object, like a horse-shaped piece of plastic, to the hatred of human beings trivializes the severity of racism. I am not comfortable with trivializing those who have experienced hatred.

Bias would be a more appropriate word, and more accurately describes what is influencing votes here. Bias is what determines any voting process.

i already went over my issue with using "bias."

if it had come down to rarity vs. brights (which i don't think would have been possible with the brackets as they were) i would definitely have a tough time. they're both in the unicorn pose i prefer (pose being a major reason i'm so PO'd that whistle wishes is suddenly so popular), and i like the color schemes of both. i'm a sucker for pink and rainbows, but i'm also a sucker for well done non-pink and rainbows schemes. i'd probably end up closing my eyes and throwing a dart to pick.

i did vote for thistle whistle last year, though, because the one thing that draws me to a pony more than anything else is personality. i LOVE LOVE LOVE thistle's character in the animated episodes. she had one of the best lines in "a very minty christmas" and probably THE best line in "friends are never far away." but i digress. i just hate seeing people vote for a blah pony because of something like "I HATE PINK!" or "UNICORNS ARE YAY NO MATTER WHAT!" or "pretty sparkles is the obvious choice so i'm going to vote for ugly mcstinkybutt."

It's just the nature of the system. ^_^ Each person gets a vote, using whatever criterion they wish! And while some people vote a certain way just to rattle the cage, I'd bet most people vote they way they really feel. So, it probably evens itself out in the end, and you see a general demographic.

*pats you* I'm sorry you feel so bad over Rarity losing to Silver Rain! ^_^ If it makes you feel any better, it seems likely that the die-hard Rarity fans will vote AGAINST Silver Rain in her next heat... just for spite/bias. (because she won over Rarity)

I'm not touching the racism thing, although I think the term you were looking for may have been something more along the lines of prejudice or discrimination. This caught my eye though:

That is precisely why I would have voted against Rarity, had I not been Sick Unto Dying earlier in the week. If you ask the average person to describe My Little Pony, you're going to get something very similar to a pink, rainbow-haired unicorn covered in glitter and hearts. Far from being a "rarity", she's such an archetypal pony that she's practically cliche.

To me, Silver Rain is much more representative of what the current MLP line actually is, for better or for worse. She's a pretty decent pony that could have been phenomenal and fell short of the mark due to some unknown factor on Hasbro's end. (I like to think their design team is made up of highly-trained, semi-sentient pterodactyls, personally.) I realize that Madness is more beauty pageant than presidential race, but I'd rather give my vote to a pony that I feel better represents the ponies of that year (even if none of said ponies made me shed tears of joy) than a pony that stands for what some dude thinks he remembers his sister playing with.

But in the end, meticulously considering the candidates isn't any more valid than just voting the party line. It is only Madness, after all. ^_~

/end tl;dr

Actually, considering Hasbro targets LITTLE GIRLS who LIKE pink, DURH they make the first unicorn pink because that is their target market! People who sell things to a younger age group will use colors that are most commonly associated (pink and purple) with that group of prominent customers. Sorry if Rarity isn't freakin' blue, mustard and olive green because that would make her unique but instead she's EXACTLY the point of the MLP line DIRECTLY made for their main customer base (not collectors). *is done ranting that silver crap beat TEH RARITY who is easily the best G3 EVAR* Hasbro knew exactly what they were doing when they made her pink and anyone with marketing expertise would make the test unicorn in the main color, so that's what they did.

Amen Diet, amen! Speak the truth, girl! Now if people did not take prejudices into voting I'm sure it'd be much different.

PS Whistle Wishes will NOT win. Why? Cause Brights Brightly will. I am hoping for a Comet Tail upset but it is highly evident Brights has the upper hand. She has easily prevailed against much stronger competition than WW has seen and she is just an overall prettier pony. So you may not have to worry about THE RARITY WHO OWNS YOU but you do have to worry about the sunny, chipper, brighting Brights instead. AHAHA *is still bitter about sr winning* BRIGHTS!

No, no, I didn't say I hated pink! And yes I know Hasbro is thinking of little girls when they make the ponies, but I'm not the first collector to complain a little bit about too much pink.

And no one knows who will win the madness. But I AM hoping it is Whistle Wishes! I'll make sure it is! :D

Madness Voting is no different than any other type of voting in real life. You'll always find people who vote Democrat/Republican/Whatever or always support the popular person at school even if there's a better-suited candidate out there.

It's just the way things turn out when you give people a vote - it's their right to use it however they please, even if it's to vote unrelentingly for the underdog or go 'ZOMFGBBQ!1 it's PINK! *votevotevotevote*.'

I don't think there's anything wrong with whatever rationale people have behind their vote. It is their choice, after all.
