BUDDY READ: BRAVELY by Maggie Stiefvater - Starting 7/15

I waited to start reading until today and am 3 chapters in. I can tell it’s going to be easy to get though quickly but I’ll keep on track for discussion even if I get far ahead reading!

Oh I forgot to tell you that my book came today! We have a little bit of another one to finish and I can start it. I didn't expect it to be here today!

Yay!
I am gonna post on the prologue and the first two chapters tonight. I will hide things behind spoilers. I am liking the book so far. I hope you all are as well :)

Starting tonight I had to power through an A-Z Mystery first.

I caught up through chapter 4 today :)

the part about her collecting the wooden spoons, that is me with salt & pepper shakers, people just give them to me and so I have a few of them out which I guess makes people think I like and collect them so they give me more LOL how many salt & pepper shakers does a body need!!

and what do we think about this Ila character, eh? Older than she seems? Are we laying foundation for something here? hmmm...

Got the prolouge and 1st chapter done tonight! We always set an Alexa timer and we hit the last word as the timer went off.
Pause while I go learn how to make a spoiler in the tutorial forum.......

yes! I’m on chapter 25 again. May read a third time.
Ila seems very wise and mysterious, yes? What do we think of Feradach? I laughed about the spoons, too! That’s me with magnets and my mom with chickens.

@Lackadaisy funny story, Brave was the first movie E ever asked to see. We had the doll first and ended up seeing it twice in theater. (Kinda a big deal since ,for instance, the last time we saw a movie in the theatre was Captain Marvel. We don’t go often.)

I really want to post a lot here. We had a houseguest show up on Monday and it has thrown the week off. We're actually getting a second, related, houseguest tomorrow.
They'll both leave Saturday, and then I will be a lot more active. I'm going nuts right now, friends. Nuts.

I bet! Don't worry about us, we'll be here when you have time to chat :) I know what it's like to have too much going on, *looks around at mounds of stuff needing to go back in pony room, pile of book swap goodies to pack, and 10lbs of pickles on kitchen counter to be canned* LOL don't stress yourself out trying to do it all, we aren't going any where ;)

I want to help organize and do things. :surprisepony: Literally only allowed up for necessary bathroom visits right now. So… I will read it again! (I really quite enjoyed this book btw, great choice.)

not those frivolous bathroom visits @Tak ;) necessary ones only! don't let us catch you in there cleaning up ponies
I read through it again… and halfway through ‘Scythe’. I managed to fall on my crutches and have been relegated to chair until I’m allowed to walk again. But, hey, getting lots of reading done.

Any comments on the triplets as compared to how they were portrayed in the movie/past? [\SPOILER]

Don't worry, I've been off this week and got nothing accomplished. After the first chapter P wasn't interested :( for some reason (probably because it wasn't his idea). So I have not gotten back until last night and two pages in I couldn't keep my eyes open. It's like a natural sleeping pill to me. But I will catch up!! So far it's really good.

I can highly recommend her other books.
All the Crooked Saints and The Scorpio Races are great standalone books. The Raven Boys is a 4 book set (with a related series that comes after) and is quite good, also.
Many people found All the Crooked Saints a little strange, but it is one of my fav books of all time. Metaphorical, weird, magical realism. The Scorpio Races is beautiful, haunting, and fantastical. Both are stellar.

Will post my thoughts soon, been working and tryina get a lot done at home. <3

Thank you! I’ll add them to my list.

I dont have a chance to fully write out a ton of thoughts until later this week but so far, here are some <3

Firstly... yall this book got me going feral wanting warm fresh baked bread!! I could legit smell, feel, hear, and taste the bread reading about it. Rude lol!!
Secondly, its been yearsss since I watched the Brave movie, so Ive forgotten a lot but im really enjoying reading more detail attached to what I remember. The writing style is nice too. I really enjoy narration thats clever with wordplay, so the prologue was nice. The writing in general throughout is very cozy and gives a good atmosphere of the setting i think! I will say more when its not midnight haha gatta sleep!!
........I swear I read the first chapter over a week ago and Im still smelling that bread!! I thought, ' Yall the second we convene for this buddy read the first thing out my mouth is the food' hahaha

I really like it so far. I love the images that are being described, I can get a good feel for how the God's look like. I agree with strawberry, I really want some homemade bread now too. I can't wait to see how Merida convinces her family to "change". I don't really know why that's such a bad thing, not changing, especially bad enough to be ruined. I will try to keep my eyes open and get a little farther tonight.

Ok I'll see how far I can get tonight.

I'm nearly halfway through, kinda slowed down this week and skipped reading several days. Feradach is such an intriguing character.

I'm getting the feeling that all the family will go through growth and changes through the year, but Merida will be the one to hold on to old ways and not even realize until it's almost too late. She has everyone in a box of the way they are and pushes back when they do or say something she doesn't expect. It's really obvious with her reaction to Hubert, and I see it strongly with her view of Leezie as well.
