Would you open an MOC pony?

For me, it would depend on the condition of the card. if it's torn, faded and the plastic bubble is yellowed, IT SHALL BE FREEE!!!! It also depends on the type of the packaging. If it's a mail order that comes in it's original plastic bag thing, I would take it out. It doesn't look too good on display....

Yep I totally would. They're just no fun in the box!

I usually debox any MIB G3s I happen to buy. I don't go out of my way to buy MOC G1s, but if I found one at a garage sale or something, I'd sell it rather that open it and then use the money to buy a loose pony. Because I know there are people out there who would really want the MOC.

I am like everyone else I love to take things out of the package. However, I kept my G1 MOC and MIP because I already have them loose. Just not the accessories complete. That gives me justification in not opening them. Besides I feel like im trying preserve history.

I've never owned a MOC, but the reason is I'd only open it if I did!
I know people like to keep toys and figures in their boxes to preserve them, but I reckon they're really not designed to be packed away for years.
I've bought plenty of PVC toys MIB, and some of them are sticky when they come out. This is because when plasticisers leach out, they have nowhere to go but back onto the toy! Normally they would evaporate, but they can't in a box.
MOC ponies end up with stains from the cardboard too sometimes (or so I hear).

Ponies can't breathe in plastic! Their only hope for survival is sweet freedom and lotsa tea parties!

Plus I love to tear things up, so nothing much stays in a package around me unless it's dish scrubbers or someting yucky.

(This being said I do have some G4s mint on cards. But they're not for me. They'se for trades. So they have to stay in carbonite for now)

i would take them out of hte box.

it;s only super obsessive collectors wh buy things and keep them in the boxes.

like sometimes you will see carebears on ebay that you can tell no one played with because they are almost thirty years old and look brand new.

I'm still very young and childish, so when I get a new pony the first thing I see is 'plaaaaaaaaay with meeeeee'.....so yes....most of my G4's are opened apart from my rainbow dash army, a few doubles and ones I have nowhere else to put.
If I got a G1 moc I would open the bubble a tiny bit so the plastic could 'breathe'. I wouldn't properly open it as to be honest, how long are G1 moc's going to last? If they all get ruined like some variants did whilst on the card and people open them then there won't be any left.
I want a MOC gusty though, for my gusty army. I might get one with a really bad card so I can open her....I'm still rather torn on this one. XD however, I don't think I'd trust myself not to open one. Most of my rainbow dashes that I said I wouldn't open have been opened at some stage and put back in their box afterwards X3

I'm a die hard, long time collector... I have some MOCs from the 80's which I will not free. I also have several G2's and G3's MIP/MIB/MOC that I won't be opening. I occasionally find a G4 that I won't liberate as well. Like my FS Applejack or my CE Applejack. Generally though, I free a lot more than I keep encapsulated. There is a lot to consider one way or the other.

I never would open, one, just sell it to someone if you would. It is like sacrilege to open a G1.

I would never ever open a MOC/MIP, unless it was a g4 and still in production. To me it is a waste because you can just get the pony loose anyways and let a MOC/MIP collector buy the MOC/MIP one ^_^ I also collect MOC/MIP ponies myself. I think they look so amazing and beautiful on card/in the box.

I could never de box or de card a vintage pony, and i have some g3s i never opened but bought them intending not to. They are becoming more and more rare since people have no self control when it comes to saving/ preserving them for the future. I am a hard core collector, i have other toys i would never open either.

If you want to buy them new still in production and open them be my guest. I have purposely bought 2 of something just so i could open one.

But ultimately, yes toys were meant to be played with but i love getting preloved/used/ played with toys second hand. super easy as we all know how things are mass produced.

i find it a challenge to get something vintage mib or moc, but i am also a collector who won't spend crazy money either. go figure I only have about 2 moc g1's and about 10 moc/mib g2's

ok i said my bit.

I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a MOC/MIP pony of a generation that is not active at the moment. For one thing, they're much more expensive and cost more to ship, and I want to feel like if I can play with my ponies whenever I want to. I can't tell you how many times I've groaned over finding G3 Winter ponies for sale, only to find out they're MIP.
That, and I LOVE seeing how packaging and brand images evolve over the years, and MIP ponies are an awesome way to do that. If I got a MIP double of a pony I already have, I'd definitely leave them inside and just bask in the wonder of feeling like a little girl in the 80s (or late 90s, or 2000s) looking at the pretty pony on the store shelf.

HOWEVER, I actually went for the third option. The truth is, more than once I've come across MOC ponies that are just BEGGING to be taken out. Either the backcard looks nasty, or has a ton of rips an/or tears, or the plastic bubble has yellowed... But the most common are the ones that you can just tell the plastic hasn't taken well to years and years of being sealed up.
For example, G2 Hip Holly and Copper Glow are infamous for their uncanny propensity for stickiness. Now, no matter how much I want one (and it is a LOT), I am still afraid of ordering a Copper Glow because I don't know if she'd react well to being confined in an envelope for the 1-2 weeks it'd take her to get to me - I can't begin to imagine how one that has been sealed for over 10 years is doing.

I would probably want to open them so badly but since they are worth so much when they're MIB/MOC, I would just sell it and buy a loose one. :satisfied:

That's a good idea! :smilepony:
I guess if it came to it, I'd probably do that as well... though I don't know how I would get my hands on a MOC in the first place!

Not if they're from G1 or G2. G3 and G4? Have at them. I buy them for baits anyway.

I choose the third option. However, honestly it depends on what I paid.

If I didn't buy it new when the pony was in production I usually buy MLP packaged solely so I get all the accessories in a simpler way than tracking pieces down individually. And then yes they usually get opened because I like to touch my ponies. Still I have G3s and G4s MIB/MOC just because. Though they take up so much more display room in package. Of course I don't throw away packaging either. I also still have G1 & G2 cards for my collection. So the packaging always ends up in another box or case packed away anyway.

It depends on the card condition. The G1's I have MOC have nice cards, but I did buy a MOC GnS Starglow on a beat-up torn UK card for very cheap just to remove her from the card and have one in perfect condition with her UK accessories.

I've learned to keep most of my G4's in the box. I also have certain G3's still in the box. I'd debox any others before I'd debox a G1, though.
