Would you/Do you open your MIB????

Hello Everyone!

I'm new here, and have a question that I hope won't be too strange....!

Do you, would you or have you opened a MIB/MIP/NIB (you get the idea) pony/playset etc.? I have just purchased a MIB Turista Pony (can't WAIT to get her!), and the idea of leaving her in the box when she arrives makes me a little sad (toys are meant to be played with..yadda, yadda....) but the idea of ruining a potentially valuable purchase concerns me, too. Really, I am happy with either option, but would prefer to carefully open her and take a good look!

I'd love to hear your opinions/experiences with this!

Oh sorry! It's the "Good Weather Pony", the one that is yellow with blue hair and a sun symbol and was sold in a playset(well, sort of...she came with lots of accessories, in any case!). Actually, perhaps it was only sold in Europe? I'm not sure, but she is my absolute favourite.

I completely understand about leaving them in the box, and they DO look pretty in there!

YEEESS!!!!
i would and have opened several MIB/MOC ponies!!!!!:eek:k:
i think the only ones i would NOT decard would be ones that are common G1 ponies because you can easily find them in MINT condition.
i decarded 3 G1 argies and a greek, and 3 G2s and several G3s.
but dont think i would decard an MIB coton candy or something ^_^
does that make any kind of sence??:blah:

Although I have some MIB ponies, very few of them stay that way. I see ponies as having "play value," which is why I could probably never collect the so-called Nirvanas and why I would never attempt to buy any G1 MIB or MOC. I even prefer to buy ponies that need a little bit of work, because it gives me yet another way to interact with them.

So.. yes, I've opened up boxed ponies. :eek:k:

But I've rarely returned an open toy to its box.

Do you ever intend on selling her, even if its many years from now? If so you probably want to keep her in the box... if not then I say take her out if you want to, just be super careful and save the packaging really nice?

I almost never buy MIP/MIB ponies because I know I won't be able to resist taking them out for long. So far the only collectible that has been safe from deboxing is some MIP petites because they are older and display so nice like that.

NO, never would i open a g1. never ever. i don't see the point. you could sell a mib/moc g1 for more than the pony itself costs. if you intend to open it i don't see the point of buying a moc/mib pony. there's alot of us who collect mib/moc ponies and for every opened pony there's one less pony for us to collect. of course blablabla it's your own pony your own money blabla, but tbh i just think it's silly aslong as the card looks ok and the pony is safe in the bubble. it's like saying it's my rapunzel, i'll cusmotize her if i want to :p loosing all the value... sure you can do it, but i just don't see the point. ok sorry for the rant, it just annoys me :p i'll go away

The point of opening a MIB/MOC pony is the amazing mint condition they are in. The addictive fresh pony scent and the joy of opening a pony like it's Christmas Day and knowing no one else has ever touched that pony. I have opened several over the years. *notice my siggy :) * The still look and smell fantastic and I don't regret it one little bit. Pony collecting shouldn't be about monetary worth. As we have all seen, the market can fluctuate greatly.

However, as mentioned above, if you see you may sell it in the future it will definitely be worth more MOC/MIB.

Ahhh....this is so logical - Thank You! :)

I have to say, now that you are asking for opinions: KEEP HER MIB.
One day when you need to sell your ponies because you need quick cash, you'll regret having opened her. Sure, you might have saved the box and all the thingamajiggies and accessories, but she's still not mint and sealed and might have been contaminated with dust, smoke, smell, etc.

I'm with CC on this one. I would *never* open a G1, ever!

They are *so* incredibly rare to find like that and while they have managed to stay in their original packaging for plus/minus 25 years, it only takes someone 5 minutes to ruin all that.

I open stuff that I buy new. like new g3's or g3,5 from the store. Ive also opened some collector ponies. like comiccon and ponycon ponies. but Id never even get myself an mib G1. I could never resist opening it:p

I would never open a G1 pony. There is something special to me about seeing a pony MIB/MOC that reminds me of seeing them in the stores as a kid. That's enough for me, I don't have to open them to get that feeling. :)

The Good Weather pony is a more HTF pony, I would NOT open her. Why bother paying all that money for an MIB just to open her? I don't get it, but.. in the end she's yours.

I vote "No" also.

I have 1 G1 MIB.
I have 1 G2 MIB.
And a bazillion G3's MIB.

I cannot open a pony. I tried one time, to one with a damaged box, and just couldn't do it.

I am slightly keeping them for monetary value, as I totally plan on selling them eventually. At the very latest in 5 years when my son is due to start college. If not sooner.

Well at least no one is roasting me over a spit for my transgressions!

I do keep my rare or htfs MOC/MIB but since all the ones we've opened were gifts for my daughter, I have the amazing memories of seeing the thrill on her face when opening them and I know we will never sell those.

still, i have to say for me it's more the feeling of seeing them in box that brings me back to my childhood. picturing them in the stores wishing that one day they could be mine. i understand people want the mint ponies, that's fine. but i would rather spend the money on a mint pony or 10... opening it lasts like 10 seconds. then you have a loose pony in a bit better condition than the rest with some loose accessories. if you put that in the same box as the rest, leave them out on a shelf, play with them, then they are no longer mint and have lost all the mint'ness. i don't see the point, but i'm not saying you shouldn't do as you want with your own toys. this is my opinion, and i'm sticking by it by buying/saving all the mocs/mibs i can afford.

I believe in the end, it is totally up to the individual. I myself have decarded a few ponies. Of course if I asked for opinions I woud've heard a lot of "Noooo!"
I've never regrettted it either.

Keep her MIB! I've never decarded a G1 or G2, and don't really plan on it. It always makes me cringe to hear about rare ponies being decarded.

I keep *all* G1's MIB/MOC/MIP. They are lookin' just so amazing, I don't know I just like it. G2's the same. G3's and G3.5's, most I like to open, I dunno, just my thing..:angel2:

Your pony, *your* choice. Period. :)

One other thing I've seen mentioned elsewhere but not here in this thread (I don't think), is that sometimes the packaging is SO badly deteriorating that the pony inside is actually more in danger of damage if you don't remove her (like the plastic from the packaging is interacting with the pony's plastic).
