Would like to make a custom...

I like the tool method, but I have tendonitis in my right wrist - so the wire method doesn't work for me.

if you paint the pony, though, the tool can chip off some of the paint going through the plug holes, so you have to be careful. using a thumbtack to widen the hole helps prevent it for me.

I suggest your first custom be a trial rather than a serious attempt so you can get the hang of your rehairing/painting/sealing/etc.

I got all of my tips from these sites and from people around here on this site. I have yet to make my first one as well lol but very excited to start :)

Aikarin.com - Custom Pony Tutorial - rerooting/rehairing ( A really good step by step photo of rehairing so you're not having to pause and rewind a video :) ) this is probably the way I will do it.
