I don't know about the rest of you, but this time of year is crazy-busy. This swap will be another laid-back ATC like the last summer swap. Long deadlines and a pretty open-ended theme.

But first...

What are ATC swaps?
ATC stands for Artist Trading Card. ATCs are small pieces of original artwork. The only limitation on ATCs is the size: 2.5x3.5 inches or 64x89mm and generally a flat surface (although you can add beads, fold out panels, or pop up elements for 3D effects.)

A typical ATC swap here on the MLPTP will ask you to do pony cards based around a certain theme. You don't have to meet any minimum art standards to join; these should be fun, not stressful. Just do your best and enjoy yourself! :D

Group One: Holiday Glitter

The ponies grew up in the '80s, and their sense of decorating for the winter holidays leans towards to fantastic and glittery. (Some ponies probably eat tinsel with confetti for breakfast, lunch, and dinner :lol:) For this swap, show off the ponies having fun decorating. Extra cookie points if you use real glitter.

(Holidays encompassed for this swap include Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's Eve/Day, Valentine's Day, and Mardi Gras -- told you it was the all-encompassing winter holiday swap! Pick and choose whatever you'd like to celebrate.)

Group Two: Snow Day!
The ponies always have an excuse to go play in the snow. It's perfect for sledding, or snowball fights, or building giant snowponies, or just taking a stroll through the woods to enjoy the fresh snow. The more responsible ones might shovel the sidewalks (yuck). Of course, maybe some of them would prefer to stay inside with the hot cocoa. Let's see how you imagine the ponies spending their snow day!

Signups! You can join one or both groups. I'd suggest signing up for no more than ten cards unless/until you get your first ten finished.

When you signup, please include a few of your favorite ponies along with the number of cards you'd like to do. It'll just let me personalize your packages a little more.

I know some people are not a fan of glitter, so if you'd like to join that group but absolutely do not want shiny flaky bits on your cards, note that, too!

I'm really tempted by both groups, but I'll have to think about it. I'm not sure if I'll have enough time for them.

This will be my first time signing up to this :) I've wanted to do it for a long time but was intimidated. I was wondering what I can make the cards out of? Does it have to be thick card-like paper? Or would paper cut from my sketch book do?

I'll sign up for 5 cards in the second Snow Day group.

Some of my fave ponies are: Port O Bella, Sweet Stuff, and Yum Yum.
 
Naw, don't be intimidated. We're all friendly over here. :)

I think most of us finish up with cards as thick as an index card up to a cereal box type of cardboard. Your sketchbook paper should be fine. If they seem a little flimsy when you cut them out, you can definitely stack sheets and make them a bit sturdier.

If you want some thicker stuff, I have a bunch of poster board type cards cut out if you'd like a few ;)

And LP9, you can count me in! I'll do five cards for both groups. And here's the pony list:

Ok thanks :) I think I will use my water coloring paper for them, I think that will be just the right thickness. Or do like you said and stick a few sheets together.

So I don't have to be scared? hehe...

Oh one more question...do I make 5 of the same identical card? Or do I make all different style ones? I've looked at the examples and some seem to have different scenes while others pretty much seem to be the same picture with maybe some slight variations... Also can I glue on effects such as sequins? Or must we be directed when to put add ons? Thanks :)
 
i glue card stock paper, decorative or colored, to the back of my atcs, makes the back look a bit nicer too. hope what you have will work out for you.

its up to you if you want the lineart to be the same, if its easier for you, or you can make them all different. you can add anything you want to the cards, just remember the weight of the cards might make postage a bit more.

I'm in as always. I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to put one together. The holidays seem to be flying by already for me. blah.

Anyways, I'm going to do 6 for each this time. I'm happy to get glittery cards (Unicorns and Glitter!! hehe, I love that progressive commercial)

Some ponies I like, umm all.... hehe it's had to narrow it down. Greek Windy(siggy), Bubbles, Seashell, Mimic, Velvet Bow, the original 6 are always a fav., TAF's, Big Bros and Mt. Boys, Prince Firefly (G2), Sparkle Snap, Silver Glow I'd better stop now.


As for the cards I usually cut the pony out of what ever I drew her on and paste that to cereal box cardboard with some background on it, either another drawing, painting or scrapping paper that fits the theme.

For right now, I will do group 2. I will think about doing group 1 and get back to you. I will do eight.

Thanks for being patient -- as I've mentioned, this is my crazy week at work. I opened signups when it looked like things were under control, and then it all went pear-shaped again on Sunday/Monday. :cussing:

Just fair warning, I may not be on again through then entire weekend, as that's when the shindig is going down. Maybe in flames. At least it'll be over with then. :|
 
I think this sounds like fun but im not very good at drawing :ipmimscs: lol
So im gonna think about it or maybe practise my pony drawing then take part in the next one :)

Me please! I'd like to be in! I haven't done a ATC swap since '06.

I'd like to do 5 cards for each of the two groups. I do NOT like glitter (please!) unless it's sealed somehow. It looks pretty on paper but not all over my house, LOL!

Favorite ponies: (G1's) Applejack, Galaxy, Sugarberry, Princess Tiffany, Lightning
(G3's) Port-O-Bella, Kiwi Tart, Cinnamon Breeze
