Winger Pony Questions?

I have two frizz-and-rust-tastic G1 Wingers that I would like to fix up, but I noticed a few differences between them and my other ponies...

Is it normal for their bodies to be as hard as a rock? Because with all of my other ponies they're all fairly soft and flexible to a point but these ones are literally rock-hard, so it's kind of difficult (and painful, because I'm a wimp) to try popping their heads off!

Also, should I avoid getting their wings into the oxyclean..? Because their wings are in mint condition so I would hate myself forever if I ruined them D:

I had a Forget-Me-Not that I wrecked that way. I have a Rosedust that I'm not even going to mess with because she's hard as a rock like yours. I don't think she's worth fixing because she has other issues besides, but to answer your one question, yes, I think it's normal.

As for the wings, I don't see the problem and don't think the oxyclean will hurt them, but maybe someone else has a different opinion.

Yeah, why is it that some ponies are so smooshy soft and some really hard? o_O kinda weird.

I imagine the "hard as rock" feeling is some sort of deterioration of the plastic...I had a Confetti once that was severely discolored (like she'd been in the sun for far too long) and she was hard as rock as well. Or maybe certain ponies had different amounts of certain plastics that caused them to go hard. I mean, look at regrind...

As for the wings, unless they're severely dirty, soap and water should do the trick. I've never used Oxyclean myself so I can't vouch for it.

I have used Oxyclean on many, many wingers with terrific results! If you're hesitant about it, then you can also use plain old dish soap and a scrub brush.

For frizzy hair, I like to use conditioner (but you can also use fabric softener) to smooth it out. I leave it in for a few hours, then rinse it out. I comb through the hair with a wire cat hair brush. I know it sounds strange, but I swear by it!!

I've noticed that the harder plastic bodies are more common on my wingers made in China. My Hong Kong wingers aren't nearly as rigid.

I'd love to see pictures when you're finished:)

It's just the different plastics, plus the way they're treated. I have 2 G3 Cotton Candys that look identical, but I put one of them in boiling water because her face was smushed and after she dried her plastic is much harder... But at least her face is the right shape now!

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions, guys! :)

Really? Because mine are both Hong Kongs! XD Though Sky Dancer's pretty soft, my poor little Buzzer might as well be made of rock... Also when I shake her, stuff rattles around inside. That worries me haha. Can't wait to see what THAT is...

If you're worried about it, I can clean and de-frizzthem for you. I don't charge because I LOVE doing it. ;) I just ask that you loosen the heads yourself so I don't run into the possibility of damaging them with an exacto knife.

I have a lot of them, and hands down my Chinese made are much harder than my HK's. I do have a few HK's that are currently leaking plasticizer (ick!!!!).

I suspect you've got a tail washer kicking around inside your pony...either that or zombies:0
I think sending your ponies to Skeen is an excellent idea:). I did rip a neck seal on one of my hard-as-rock Lady Flutters when I was attempting to remove her head. Luckily, I was able to fix it!! But those little buggers can be tricky and delicate. They will look so beautiful once they are cleaned up:). Can't wait to see before/after pics hun! Best of luck with your girlies:)

I've restored a few at this point. They are a trickier pony to give a heavier scrub down too, or flat iron the hair without bumping or inadvertently touching the wings with any of your tools. I have a little winger army now- love those ponies. :) I've owned over 5 buzzers, and they've all been rock hard- even the hong kong ones I've gotten so I don't think that's unusual.

For tail rust, if it's really bad see if the washer has come loose, see if you can remove the tail from the tail hole without removing the head. I've never gotten a rusty winger, but I've done this to a peek a boo/newborns ponies with bad rust that I couldn't remove the head on for one reason or another (newborns have a tendency for the neck seal to rip).

With the peek a boo, she was soft so I was able to squish her bum with my fingers where the tail is, wiggle off the washer, pull out the tail, tilt her so the washer was resting against the tail hole and I could get a hold of it with a tool. With a pair of skinny long tweezers I managed to bend it in half so I could slide it out as well. That last part was the trickiest.

I ended up cleaning the insides by filling her with a strong detergent/cleaner that ate away at all the mold/rust and used q-tips through her tail hole to break up grime. I scrubbed off and smoothed out her tail and popped it back in once she was clean and dry. Voila. It wasn't the perfect solution, as she no longer had a washer, but she was clean and rust free and I didn't have to behead. :)

/glances down at Baby Dangles and her ripped neck seal
/looks away and whistles nonchalantly

Hahaha thank you for the advice! Skeen, I might just end up taking up your offer on that and sending them to you as soon as I have the final payment from a commission I'm working on. :) They're just such lovely little ponies, and I'm particularly attached to my Sky Dancer so I'd hate myself forever if I accidentally ruined them.

And thank you michelle53! I'll be sure to put up some pics once my full batch of G1s are all restored and looking pretty again!
