Why is it so hard to find a Flutter pony with wings?

I've been wondering about this for a while...
Whenever you go on eBay, or even look at other people's collections, their Flutter ponies don't have wings any more.
Is there a reason for this?
I just got a Flutter in a lot and she didn't have her wings.

There are a lot of people who charge more money for Flutters with wings, so I'm just wondering why so many of these ponies no longer have theirs.
Do they fall out easily or break?

:flutter: :flutter2: :flutter: :flutter2:

It's mostly because they're very fragile. They didn't always make it through being "loved". Also, accessories get lost in general. Lots of people make replacement wings since so many flutters don't have them.

They break easily, in addition to accessories being the first things children tend to lose.

a set of perfect wings will run about $15-20 ish, either a clear tabbed set (came with all second edition flutters, also pink dreams from the slumber party pack), or a set with tabs colored to match the pony (first edition ponies, yum yum from the party pack). The rarest wings go with the mail order pony, Hollywood, and are worth more then the price quoted above.

"Nora's wings" are replica's made to replace the originals, they all have white tabs. :) They look just like the originals too, unsure as to what they resell for. but white tabs are the thing to watch for when checking out winged flutters on ebay, sometimes sellers try and pass them off as originals.

What are "tabs" concerning Flutter pony wings?
I've never heard that term before.

The tab is the little plastic piece that inserts into the wing base, if the tab breaks off the wings will no longer insert into the pony. :(

1st edition "Colour tab" wing. this one is peach blossom's wing, as you can see the tab matches her body colour. these are the most fragile wings. NO original wing had white tabs.

2nd edition wings, less fragile then the colour tabbed wings, and ALL the 2nd release ponies came with the exact same pair of wings with clear tabs, so much easier to match them to your ponies. :)
Now, all second edition ponies came with open bottom wings slot (by the shell button) to accommodate the larger tab, part of the tab sticks out at the bottom and locks into place.

Now, lots of different people have made their own customs wings, some look closer to originals then others. but it they don't match up to either of these two sets, odds are they were handmade.

Flutter wings are very, very fragile. They break very easily. They are plastic and much thinner than even a pop bottle. It is absolutely breath taking to see a flutter with her wings. They amaze me with their beauty.

As others have said they are really pretty but really fragile, they tended to break within a short span even for those that were careful with them.
I had 3 flutter wings, one lost both wings almost immediately, they were glued back in but they were never the same. I think they eventually went missing when we moved house at one point. The second I managed to keep the wings in tact for quite a while then eventually one broke, the third kept it's wings for many years but I think it's probably broken now.

in all my years collecting i have never ever come across a flutter pony that has her wings

I have two flutter ponies from when I was young and neither have their wings. Like everyone has said, they were very fragile. I think mine broke not to long after I had them. :(

I remember I had a flutter pony. Morning glory was her name. I played with her alot and yes the tabs broke off right before my eyes. I lost her too along with many other of my childhood ponies. I don't think I have came across one with wings on either.

As a kid, I took very good care of my toys. But the plastic the wings're made of is SO brittle, a few times taking them on and off the pony, and the wings'd snap right off their tabs :(

wow thanks for the info, i have been collecting for quite some time, and flutter ponies never really appealed to me, and i am so glad now that i know the truth about the missing wings. It would frustrate me all to much to collect them, I think i have two, but i would never pass any g1 pony up now days.

This is really interesting! I also wondered why flutter ponies so often don't come with wings.
It's kind of amazing that Hasbro made them out of such brittle plastic, though, when you consider that they're intended to be played with a lot.

Flutter pony ownership when they first came out went...

Open pony.
Push button to make wings flap
Crazy tears because wings fell out on first flap.
Mum writes to Hasbro.
New (different) flutter pony arrives in the mail as apology.
Rinse and Repeat.

LOL is this how it really went?

I took extremely good care of my toys when I was little, I sobbed my heart out when I broke my Honeysuckle's wings within a day or so of getting her. They are just so fragile and easy to break.

I own all the flutters, and I only have one with original wings, the rest I have Nora's wings for.

...this reminds me of the Christmas where Santa brought me Paradise Estate (omgomg!)...and then there were NO accessories in the box at all.

My mom told me that Santa had instructed her to exchange it at Toys R Us. I remember that there were other moms there with the same exact problem. TRU was completely sold out of PEs.

I ended up with a whole lotta Questron books instead. I think I benefited more from the Questorn books :winkpony:

Sorry for going OT ^_^

For my sister and I, yes. We both got a flutter pony from the store (Forget-me-not for me and Peach Blossom for her) and on the car ride home both sets of wings snapped. My mum wrote to Hasbro and we both got sent new ponies. Back then they really really cared about us poor little kids being happy.

I know I was super lucky to buy a lot off this gal on craigslist and sure enough there was a flutter pony with out her wings in the lot, but then she threw in this lunch box, and when I got home and opened it, lo and behold...flutter wings and accessories!
