G4 Why do girls have bird beaks and boys have equine muzzles?

I'm just genuinely curious. I'd so buy G4 if the girls had faces like the boys. Why the design change between the genders? Does anyone know? I'd love to have Lyra Heartstrings, Trixie Lulamoon, Princess Luna, Diamond Mint,Sunset Shimmer and quite a few others if they had more normal faces like the boys got.
 
I think because Hasbro was trying to go for a more Anime style look and this is what they picked. Honestly, if I didn't like the cartoon so much (which surprised me no end, believe me) I wouldn't bother with G4 at all. Why couldn't Hasbro have taken the G3 designs and used THEM in the show? G3s are so much more beautiful IMHO.
 
...I actually quite like the designs? It took some getting used to, but I can see Faust's style and the anime influence in it. And it's nice to have a bit of gender dimorphism.
 
Realistically, men typically have more blunt facial features - the jawline, for example - than women. Like Bewilderbeast stated, it's sexual dimorphism and I personally like the style. That isn't to say that there won't be ponies who break the mold, for lack of a better term.
 
Yes and I know that we had an easy way to tell between our guys and gals in G1 with the Draft-Feathering, but these aren't humans, these are animals, ponies, to be exact and ponies have cute muzzles. Not deformed bird beaks
 
That is intetesting~ I noticed the difference and just figured they wanted there to be a distinct difference in jaw line between the males and females. Just a way to tell them apart like how g1 males had fet locks and females didn't.

Anime "large eyes, small mouth" concept definitely applies to the females though, lol~ and no wonder why the females make great chocobo customs, with their beaks and flappy things
 
I just can't collect g4 anything really. I do have blind bags, but I never like the design and I never got use to it. I am not sure why they made them look the way they do. They just are not the quality of generations past as far as coloring, hair, versatility and variety. I guess I am just a total g1 and g3 fan and so far nothing else has grabbed me. Its just my style sense and opinion. I hate to say it, but I am just waiting for g4 to end. I know thats awful. I am ready to move on. I hope they make ponies that look like ponies for g5. I do respect g4 fans though and like I mentioned, the blind bags were to me the best of the g4 line as far as looking like the true show characters. Then they flooded the market with them and, I just lost interest as the molds didn't change much and it was just like buying the same thing over and over. Ponies did not really look like g3.5 either. Those were kind of quirky, but had wonderful hair. I guess each generation is someone's vision and at times some of us wont get it lol. Its good that some do because we need mlp to stay alive. I would agree that they probably made them so different to tell the boys from the girls.

You're not the only one. I understand that people like em, I just think they're badly done.
 
I could agree that the design could have been more pony-ish, but... I'm just glad it's so popular and has breathed so much more life into the brand. This means that a G5 is an eventual certainty.
