Hello every pony. I was just wondering who was the last pony you got before you decided to consider yourself a bonafied collector? For me it was G3.5 Toola-Roola. At the time, I was having a hard time finding her, even online, and she was the one that I needed to complete the core seven, I was 13 or 14 than, and I am 18 now. After that, I realized that, rather than having the "Oooh a new toy for me to play with." Kiddie attitude, I had more of a "Oooh a new toy that I can play with for my collection." collector attitude. So who was it for you?:satisfied:

The transition for me occurred more during a time when I wasn't looking for ponies. I kind of took an interest in the ones I already had and decided I wanted some more, but to collect, not to play with. The last pony I got as a "kid" was G3 Fun Fairy. I think I was about 9 or 10. A few years later I really got back into ponies again and decided I wanted to collect them. The first pony I got as a "collector" was G3 Sparkleworks, and it kind of spiralled from there. :p

I feel like with my first three ponies - 4-Speed, Melody and BBE Frosting, I knew right then and there I was a collector!

Sometime, when I was a wee little girl, and my mom bought me all the ponies. Then whenever I went to the store, I'd get a pony most of the time. I think that's when I decided to start collecting~

A specific pony? Oh jeez... um... half the G1 hoard. I think that'd sum it up~

That would probably be So Soft Truly! Though as a kid I collected many pony toys and kept my g3 ponies as perfect as i could, I didn't "click" into the collector mindset until I got so soft truly as a gift from my friend :)

Erm... I'm not sure! I never intended to go so crazy with them. I think it might've been when Love Melody arrived - she was the beginning of my TAF rot, hehe.

I think I was already leaning towards collecting when I was 11 and buying the G2s. I was entering puberty at the same time I went into hospital for my appendix, and I remember that after I came home, I never played with them again, just displayed them lined up on my desk. If I remember correctly, I had the entire first wave of Secret Surprise ponies and two of the Magic Motions... I think the last pony I got may have been Secret Tale, she was my favourite. I had intended to get more of them, but after losing my G1s when I was 14 and financial problems started, I just never did...

I only picked up collecting again in February of this year. I was feeling lighthearted, and I decided to get a G4 just for the fun of it. Then once that got delivered, I was so taken by it that I knew I wanted to get more of them. But I don't think I actually decided to be a "true" collector and go for one of every character until a few weeks ago. I've been getting a lot of doubles, because there isn't a lot of variety available locally, so I've now signed up for eBay and I'm looking what I can easily get my hands on to further expand my collection. I've also started thinking I want to finish getting the G2 collection I'd never had the chance to as a teenager.

For me it wasn't a pony that started my all out obsession with collecting as many ponies as I possibly can:LOL: It was a shirt of all things......
Ok lets start at the beging, I was a kid in the 80s so G1 was the big thing obviously back then and we had a fair few ponies between my sister and I. We had Sunlight, Moonstone, Skydancer, Starshine, Starflower, 2x Flutterby, 2x baby Glory, 2x baby Firefly, BBE Licketysplit, another BBE I can't remember too well I think she wad blue?, TE Sweetstuff, TE Galexy and 4 summerwings I can't remember the names of:blushpony: I'm quite sure there was one more but memory escapes me.........
Anyway we kept most of our ponies out of sentimentality and the idea that our own girls one day can play with them, needless to say I had two boys but they did get joy out of them and my two summer wings went to my best friend of 22years' daughter, who is now 4 and loves the ponies to bits.:satisfied:
But I didn't even think of collecting or know there were people out there collecting ponies. Untill one of my friends rocked up at my oldest son's birthday party with a My Little Pony fan club 83 shirt on! I loved it!:shockpony: I asked here where she got it and ofcause if she'd mind if I got one too Lol! My mom ended up buying the shirt for me and one for my sister too. The shirt had two ponies on the picture, one being the 80s Applejack and the other I couldn't remember the name of so I googled it......... dum, dum, dum! A whole new world opened up for me! And before I knew it I landed up here at the MLPTP, and I spent so much time here just lurking in the background that I decided I might aswell just join and stop kidding myself....... I want ponies and I want them for keeps Lol!
Well I recently baught myself a baby Moondancer wich I guess you could say was my grail pony since I was little, and I just LOVE her! And I baught two other G1s aswell, one of wich is up for sale at the mo, and some G4 McDonnalds ponies. My hubby thinks I have gone mental, but I convinced him it's no more weird than his pipe collection:winkpony: And that is my story:smilepony:

The last G1's I got new in the store were a set of Teeny Tiny Twins in '92. At 11 years old, I was a bit embarrassed to still want to buy toys, but I remember picking them out anyway. A few years later I found the budding pony community online in the late 90's, and have been proud to call myself a "collector" ever since.

When I was a child, I liked playing with ponies but I wasn't in particular big fan of only My little pony because I liked everypony toy horses. I still have tons of toy horses in my parents home. :winkpony:
I found my old my little ponies again after I had forgotten them for years. Then I kinda just wanted more ponies (this happened in 2013).. and now I have little herd and it's still growing
So the trigger to collect was my old childhood ponies and first new arrivals to my herd were Floater, Sea breeze and Fifi.

sadly it was so long ago that I can't answer this question. It was back when G1 were just leaving the shelves though so it may have been one of the rainbow babies, as I /think/ they were the last ponies I bought in store.

Oh wow, I can't even think :O

I think it was when I decided to buy 15 G3s for Christmas in 2012 because I was getting back into the MLP fandom.

The ones I got were:

  1. Strawberry Reef
  2. Silver Lining
  3. Candy Apple
  4. Summer Shores
  5. Juniper Jade
  6. Comet Tail
  7. Hidden Treasure
  8. Sunshower
  9. Forsythia
  10. Star Swirl
  11. Starbeam
  12. Magic Marigold
  13. Sunrise Song
  14. Guava Lava
  15. Paradise Palms

They were the ones that inspired me to collect again! :)

Flower Wishes?

I'd already been collecting since the late 80s a little at a time, but I didn't actually think of myself as a collector. I just loved ponies and bought them cause they were cute.

I eventually inherited a bunch of ponies from a friend, which suddenly made my goal of owning one of every pony feel more attainable, so I went mad and began collecting aggressively. It was at that point that I began considering myself an actual collector and not just a fan.

I can't be absolutely certain, but I think the last pony I bought before that happened was G3 Flower Wishes, but I also got G3 Jazz Matazz and Butter Drop and another baby G3 around the same time as gifts. I keep track of all the ponies I own, but I never kept track of the dates I got them, and now I think it's way too late to start. I asked for Tira-Mi-Su and Mochanut, and somebody thought Jazz Matazz and Butter Drop would be just as good. I'm forever infinitely grateful for every pony I've ever gotten! I couldn't be happier with my ponies!
:smilepony:

I haven't been big MLP collector.

But for 3 years ago I began my collection because the local mall began to sell G4 toys.

I actually sold some old ones on Ebay not aware how much they are worth. After I sold my lot I was obsessed with Twilight and Sunlight. I only wanted to replace mine. Now I have more than 2000 :0)

The last pony I got before I became a collector was G3 Rarity when I was about 7. After that, I didn't really pay much attention to ponies until around 5 or 6 years later, when I got introduced to the FIM show... and here I am now!

I was a collector the moment I couldn't decide what pony I wanted. Mom told me to pick a pony while we were out shopping back in the early 80's. I still remember it, a store called Roses. A beautiful section of brand new ponies, Uni's and Pegs, because I had just gotten into Unicorns back then.

I stood there for a long time, looking at all the MLP, unable to decide on which pony I wanted. I think my mom was becoming impatient because I was taking so long, she eventually told me to choose two. So I decided on Moondancer and Firefly.

After buying them we visited my cousins, and when I walked into her bedroom she showed me that she also had bought a pony. And it was funny, she bought Moondancer.

Both of us, staring at the backcard and all the other ponies, we both knew we wanted to have them all, so that is how it started, me and my cousin, collecting all the MLP.

So there was no last pony for me, it was from the very beginning, 30+ years ago.

For me I don't think it was a certain pony that I gotten, it was more of that I have six different Pinkie Pies, and every where I went I was looking for ponies... (Stores, yard sales) when I started going to flea markets just to find ponies. That's when I though of my self as a collector.

For me it was a Wysteria G3 which I found in a charity shop for only 50c. I already had a G3 Rainbow Dash and a few other G3 and G1 which I kept from my childhood.

I am into G1 to G3 ponies, the style before the ponies bodies became a bobble looking head on a tiny body. Where the ponies still had some form of a horse's body :winkpony:.

Somebody once drew a realistic-looking skeletal structure and internal anatomy of those post-2008 G3 ponies, and I laughed my head off! I wish I knew where it went! I used to be concerned that eyes that big would leave no room for a brain, but relative to head size, G4 eyes look so big to me that one orbital socket would leave no room for the other! I now collect both because I remember not liking G2, then later regretting not collecting them earlier. (Um, does that make sense?)

Oh dear, sorry for the topic deviation. Um, yeah, I told my story earlier on this thread. Well, I have another one for just plushies!

I bought a big plush pre-25th anniversary Pinkie Pie from Hasbro's toy shop. I thought she would be a nice decoration for my bedroom, make it look more youthful and sweet. As soon as I got her out of her box and out of the plastic bag she was packaged in, I brought her up into my arms and cuddled her like a newborn, and I was just completely unexpectedly flooded with emotion, chills went all over my body, and I knew then that I would become a MLP plushie collector if it took my soul.
