Whippetluv's sculpture! Very pic heavy

It's really lovely that you both put so much effort and love into your gifts....warms the cockles of me 'eart guv' :D

Hey Bee! Had fun at PoniesYeah's b-day party! It was nice seeing you again! Glad you like this sculpture :)

You said your belly dance instructor helped you, was that for actually sculpting, or advice? How much does sculpted Whippet weigh? Was she done on a wireframe? Have you taken any sculpting classes before?
I pray she gets to Whippet in 1 piece with no cracks or chips. Beware postmen!

Okay, some very good questions!

Gia Al Qamar, my bellydance instructor (and fellow friend of PoniesYeah) was a professional art doll creator before she went full time into bellydance. Here's a link to her self portrait doll...

There's another pic on the bottom... seem familiar somehow?

Gia patiently offered me tips and tricks on how to use sculpey... she really knows what she's talking about! Her days as a sculptor, however, have been replaced by her professional dancing career. She no longer offers dolls to the public. It was very kind of her to dredge up her memories of sculpting and offer me the tips and tricks she once used. I'd love to share them, but these might be her trade secrets, and I don't want to give away secrets that aren't mine :?

Gia also is a dear friend, and offers advice on anything she can advise me on. I just love her to bits!

It helped that when I was at school learning Animation I did have a couple sculpting classes...

Yes, Whippet has a wire armature. Armature wire! Never use coat hangers because they have too much 'spring' and are not very stable because of that reason... It really is worth the extra buck to go for real armature wire.

Also, a base to sink the armature wire in provides peerless stability! I highly recommend it! Drill holes at funny angles for the wire to go through. This way the wire has more wood to rest on, providing even more support from the base.

I also used lots and lots of aluminum foil to flesh her armature out. This makes her lighter than she appears. Bind that aluminum foil on with thin floral wire.

I found this guy's link enlightening when it comes to working with Super Sculpey:

Would love to see someone use his technique for wings... (hint hint!)

When I first introduced myself to the board, I admitted my 'know-it-all-ness'

It's not that I'm trying to show you how much I know, but rather, I love seeing what you all come up with. If there's something I've discovered, I want to share it to see what you can do with it :) That way, you can use your perspective on things and teach others (including myself) along the way!

Just sharing the love!

Once again, such flattering comments!! Hamilton? I saw their Glory and Firefly. Kind of dull poses... but probably much more economical to mold and cast. That would account for how much they cost. They're what? $20.00 to $30.00? Right? That's pretty affordable... Plus they look very on-character.

Thanks again!
