Ok, this may seem simple, but I'm looking to refurbish some G1s. Where the heck do you find pony hair? The only place I can find is one website. Are there any craft stores that carry the right kind of nylon hair?

Only place I know of is Dollyhair. :) I am just learning how to do this myself!

I'd be careful with Dollyhair. They've been having issues with shipping lighter-than-advertised hanks of hair, slow delivery times and not replying to customer questions/complaints. If you do some Googling, you'll see there's times where Tina (Dollyhair owner) actually badmouths customers with complaints on the TP and the Arena.

There's other sites like Retro Doll, but Dolly Hair is still the biggest with the best selection. I think Tina started getting her act together? I haven't heard any recent grumblings about her. But I personally wouldn't buy from her, as she seems to only care about the money and not forming good business relationships.

What Phek said. Dollyhair is the big one. I've personally never had an issues with my orders from Tina (dollyhair) and am pleased with her product. A newer provider is RetroDolls and I haven't ordered from there yet but it has really great reviews from long-time customizers.

If you aren't sure about customizing or don't want to spend a bunch of money before you're sure if you'll like rehairing, you could always post a "want to buy" thread and you might find a member wanting to offload some hair. Then, you could kind of try it out without placing a big order.

Woah that is something! Geez great idea for business o_o

Dollyhair is still the best place, in my opinion. I have not personally had any major issues with them, occasionally the shipping is a bit slow. I do weigh every hank that I receive, none have been underweight. That includes "free gift" hanks, as well. :D

Not sure how much the issues have been discussed over here, but there is quite a bit of information on the Arena...

Here's the dolly hair dsicussion on the TP. dollyhair.com is Tina's posts.

Tina doesn't always post on the first page, either, and at least one of these threads is a little long. This did happen in 2006, but it's still, in my opinion, a really unprofessional way to handle business. And there was some dolly hair issues that happened at the beginning of this year, though it was mainly discussed over at the Arena.

I don't know of any physical store that sells pony hair, especially if you're looking for specific g1 restorations.

General hair-shopping for creative custom mlp designs is slightly more do-able! Like you can find neat regular packages of doll hair at Jo-Ann Fabrics, bright printed hair extensions at Claire's Boutiques (like animal-print hair).

For online purchasing, retrodollsUS would be the safest place to bet your money on at he moment in my opinion, there's also restore dollhair (it's mostly Saran though I think).
Dollyhair has the biggest selection of Hasbro-quality hair at the moment but retrodollsus is working on getting similar if not more.

I ordered a pretty big order from Dollyhair a couple of months ago and didn't have any problems with hank weight or shipping. Now, the shipping wasn't quite as fast as my last order a few years ago, but I did order somewhere around Valentines Day so that may have been the POs fault.

I know others have had some pretty big problems with Dollyhair, but I personally have not.

I was able to buy a hank of nylon hair from Jo-Ann's in the doll craft section. I believe they sometimes have curly hair too. The hair is made by Fibre-Craft and is pretty long (G4 pony for size comparison), but only availible in light blond. I don't know if the hair is dyeable.

Sapphire, I'd pick up some RIT die and try to die that. I know some people use that to "repink" hair. The hair you have looks white enough in the picture, so you might be able to get custom-dyed colors if you do the dyeing yourself.
