Besides collecting ponies, combing them, and taking pictures, over time my brain seems to have developed various personalities, couples, family trees, etc. for my ponies. For example, my Baby Noodles is the son of Sprinkles (who works at a cafe) and his sister is Little Giggles, and he assists G1 Lickety Split with her ice cream shop. Sunspot and Twinkler have Baby Starflower as their daughter, Princess Primrose is childish and impatient, etc etc.

(I also have, over time, thought out how princesses and royalty work in my "ponyland"... I'm considering making a website for my collection, sort of akin to Ponylandpress, which coincidentally was the website that got me into collecting in the first place!)

I know plenty don't go as in depth as I do with their ponyland (I have quite an imagination haha), but I also know I'm not alone, so share yours! What are your pony couples? Pony personalities? What's your "ponyland" like? :)
 
I think similar to when I was a kid, I totally make up stories for them, except instead of acting a whole thing out and playing with them, I mostly just pose them in my room on display or in photos. I love combining different generations and I love bringing my customs into the imaginary ponyland in my mind, even other toys come into play sometimes. I like posting them on here or my tumblr blog. I sometimes like to think of the small G4 ponies as baby pones, because honestly, that's what they look like to me (or deer, though I think the unicorns are more close to my idea of a unicorn).

I really think the G4's make great baby ponies! I thought this was a scary scene with the Nightmare approaching ;)

I got Wigwam today (squee!!!) and put these two together right away. They are totally an item.
 
Wind Whistler is in love with batter, cakes and decorating!
Baby Quackers is her daughter and her assistant
Baby Northstar is really mature in some cases
Princess Tiffany is really whiny and not really from royalty, but her mother was.
Tex actually lived near a mountain with MB Fireball :p
Gingerbread had two cancer spots near and in her mouth, so I say that she had an accident while cooking lol

Skydancer is a boy, and his little sister is Rosedust. My Rosedust doesn't have wings or wingtabs, so she's a baby flutter pony whose wings haven't grown in yet.
Peachy and Cherries Jubilee run the pony nursery
Sherbet runs an ice cream shop, where all the ponies go
Boysenberry pie likes to cook pie. She shares it with all the ponies
All the ponies in the collector pose are quite shy, especially Snuzzle. They help with the pony nursery, too.
Majesty is the queen of the land, Skydancer is her messenger but he doesn't listen much.

There are lots more aha. Is it just me that tends to group ponies by colour and symbol to be family?

Jiraiya and Calligraphy are mates
Rainfeather is Blushie's daughter
Sea Star is Shanty's daughter
Ice Song will be Ice Crystal's younger sister
Love Song is Star Catcher's teenage daughter

Ponies with defined personalities or roles:
Tropical Surprise is the leader of my Earth ponies, she's friendly, bold and open minded
Fire Water is calm, intelligent and analytical
Blushie is fun, loveable and upbeat
Star Catcher is the leader of my Pegasus ponies, she is wise and powerful and not afraid to lay down Da Law!
Sweetie Belle is a teenager, she is a bit immature and can be prankish and vidictive
Curlylocks is elegant and prissy
Fizzy is elegant instead of a hyper spaz
Skyflier is a daydreamer
Sparkler is responsible and organized
Hula Hula is a bit lazy and very laid back
Sea Shell is shy and sweet


I have no leader for my unicorns yet

All of your ponylands sound amazing! I vote you guys post pictures of your couples, families, and herd leaders with their herds and all!
 
Let's see, when I was a kid Sunspot was a spy that solved all the mysteries around town, Merry Treats was actually a super hero that dressed in a white dragon costume and flew around at night saving people, and Firefly was pretty much good at anything and everything.

When I was a kid Baby moondancer (family Streaky as mother, father was Twirler) solved mysteries with her best friend Baby Suprise (family: Wavedancer as a mom, Nibbles & Dibbles sister, Seashell as a grandma). They also got into pony school (with other baby ponies) were Strawberry sugar was teacher. SOmetime some poni owneed a shop etc. I did have my own "pony city" in my plays :)

Gosh, my little Ponyville town is constantly changing to my whims and depending on what new building I've drug home. My Ponies have Petey the Pig who is their mayor, and even though he isn't actually a pony, he is an honourary one and he runs the town qute well. Mostly my babies are in the town, with a few mommies lurking about, just in case someone scrapes a knee or they fuss over who will be Police Chief for the day. It all is in constant flux.

Majesty is the queen of all the ponies in my Ponyland, and all the generations come to her when there is real trouble. Rosedust is queen of the Flutters, Silverswirl is princess of the G2s, but she's still learning a lot about being a leader. Kimono leads the G3 earth ponies, because she's the smart one. Starcatcher and Rarity are in charge of the pegasi and unicorns. G4 basically follows the FIM arc. They're all in the same Ponyland, but in different sections.

I like to think of my ponies' personalities as they appear in the cartoon. If they didn't appear in the cartoon, I go by their backcard stories. I tend to pair ponies with similar colour schemes or symbols as couples. (For example, if I ever get Ice Crystal (and Minty, I know, how can I not own Minty?) I would pair them because they both look "frosty".)

I also pair Tex with Truly (who I don't even think I own, haha) and Princess Tiffany is Baby Nightsong's mother.
 
Right now Ponyville had to be packed up because of remodeling. I moved the one shelf of Ponies I have set up into the bathroom and all the Pony babies from town have to stand on mommy's backs so they too can be on the shelf. No one wanted to be packed up. So the story is that Ponyville was flooded and the babies were rescued by willing Parent Ponies by swimming out with a foal clinging to their necks. Now they're all waiting for the waters to recede and the babies have to stay on their parents' backs to stay above the water. :D

We have very exciting lives.
 
Majesty is the ruler of all of Ponyland, and Windy is her apprentice. Princess Tiffany is the Guardian Angel of Ponyland, and Princess Primrose is the organiser of everything. Princess Royal Blue is rather spoilt. Some ponies are like they were in the series (Magic Star is confident and charismatic, Gusty is a cynic, Fizzy is bubbly and Wind Whistler is Spock), and some are like the UK books (AJ is clumsy, Lemondrop is an amazing jumper) and some are their own pony, like Gypsy, who is sassy, Caramel Crunch who is a total diva and Starshine, who is always cheerful. Hopscotch takes care of the babies at the nursery, and she has her hooves full. Tic Tac Toe is the teacher. Baby Tiddlywinks, Baby Half-Note and Baby Cuddles are the terrible trio, always in trouble. Baby Cotton Candy is little miss snob, Baby Tappy is the mischief maker and Baby Brother Bright Bouquet is a bit of a bully. Snuzzle is very affectionate and is basically the pony therapist.

Baby Sugarberry has two mummies (Sugarberry and Strawberry Surprise), and Tex and Wigwam have a star-crossed love. Lightning is a bit of a player and sometimes he's dating Gypsy, sometimes Fizzy, sometimes Windy. Applejack is his sister. CP Bowtie is SP Bowtie's mother, and Baby Bowtie's grandmother, and the same goes for the Applejacks.

I tend to keep Ponylands all separate, as well.
 
I love reading everyone's Pony Histories. Having our little towns 'meet' would be so fun. we need to do crossovers!

Pony Types:
In my world, G1 and G3 ponies are actually the same species of pony, with the G3s being younger, teenage/young adult G1s. G1 ponies are mature adult ponies, or older adult/senior ponies. G3 babies are like kids 7-12 years old rather than babies, and G1 babies are like kids 1-6 years old (excluding the smaller G1 babies, which are the actual babies).
So the age timeline would be: G1 Baby, G3 Baby, G3 Adult, G1 Adult

G2 and G4 ponies are different species of ponies, being more closely related to each other than the G1/G3 ponies. The G1s and G3s live in Dream Valley, the G4s live in Equestria and the G2s live in Friendship Gardens (even though I only have one G2 pony, lol).

Storyline:
I don't always go by the following storyline, but sometimes I do:

Dream Valley is populated by three main tribes of ponies (Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn) with other small subdivisions of pony types (Flutter, Seapony, etc). The Earth pony tribe is the largest, being led by Queen Flower Bouquet and King Secret Beauty (they both wear capes so I thought it was a good idea, lol). The Unicorn tribe is led by Queen Starflower and King Star Hopper. The Pegasus tribe is led solely by Queen Starcatcher, who's older than she looks. Despite being from different tribes, all three groups live in the same kingdom in harmony. However, the tribe leaders each have their own castles. The kings and queens are basically responsible for maintaining cooperation and friendship between all three parties.

I have no male ponies besides Shining Armor, so I had to improvise with the kings! :p

Royalty:
King Secret Beauty and Queen Flower Bouquet have eleven jewel pony daughters: Sapphire Shores, Crystal Lace, Silver Lining, Gem Blossom, Precious Gem, Juniper Jade, Winterberry, Periwinkle, Star Dasher, Twilight Twinkle, and Valenshy. Princess Silver Lining is the eldest sister, and in being next in line for the throne, she often receives jealous hostility from Princess Juniper Jade. Jazz Matazz is the distinguished conductor of the royal fanfare.

King Star Hopper and Queen Starflower are Princess Rarity's mother and father. Fizzy resides in their castle as well and works as the court jester. Sunrise Song is responsible for composing sheet music for the royal fanfare.

Despite her youthful appearance, Queen Starcatcher is the respected sole leader of the Pegasus tribe. She has no children or mate. Hidden Treasure is Starcatcher's dependable royal messenger pony, and she and Island Delight are also captains of the royal guard.

Townspony Life:
Because they were the first childhood ponies I was able to relocate, Brights Brightly, Twirlerina, Princess Precious Gem and Toola Roola #2 are best friends and are the "main characters" of the storyline. Brights Brightly is studious, intelligent and responsible, much like Twilight Sparkle. She is also very talented in magic and studies it often. Twirlerina is an aspiring ballerina and is heavily involved in Twinkle Twirl's Dance Studio, being one of her lead dancers. Although she is very graceful, she can also be a tomboyish daredevil, always trying out dangerous new tricks and maneuvers. Precious Gem is friendly and generous, and is generally feminine in her behavior. She loves collecting jewels and making jewelry and clothes out of them. Toola Roola is ambitious and creative, and her talent is (obviously) creating works of art! She likes to get involved in school events, particularly those that need things like decorations, banners, posters and flyers.

All of the adolescent ponies (all G3s) attend the same school, including the royal ponies. Windy and Merriweather are both teachers at the school and are beloved by their students. Merriweather also takes care of foals at the Lullaby Nursery. Aside from being Brights Brightly's teacher, Windy is also her aunt and often serves as her mentor and personal advisor.

Applejack and Cherries Jubilee are cousins and are responsible for managing much of the crops that grow in Dream Valley. They are also related to Golden Delicious and Candy Apple (who are also cousins), and they help out on the family farm as well.

Amberlocks, despite being only a teenager, owns the successful Celebration Salon. Princesses Precious Gem and Silver Lining also help their friend out with the salon.
