Okay so I get the grand idea to weed wack a small area of the back yard that was getting a bit out of control. So, I put my jeans on, shoes and a short sleeve shirt and head out with R2 running behind me saying, "I'll do it, I'll do it." Yea well I had asked him to do it for like 3 days. Done with that. So, I start up the weed wacker and everything is going fine. Then all of the sudden my skin feels like it is on fire. I look down and any skin exposed has this horrid rash. I start screaming and jumping around. R2 says run in and take a shower. My face was on fire too. I made the mistake of scratching it which made it burn worse and I spread that to my back which looked like something out of a Freddie movie. R2 comes running in, "I am burning too and jumps in the shower." We took benadryl and coated our rashy areas in cortizone cream. What in the world happened? I mean this was pretty bad and it caused the same rash and same symptoms on us both. R2 said he really appreciated me making his afternoon so nice. Well, gee wiz how was I supposed to know War of the Worlds was going to take place in my backyard. I just wanted to get that chore behind me. We have weed wacked out there before. I am in shock and feel super freaked out. I have had poison ivy before and this just isn't like that. Poison ivy cause me a dark red rash that itched like crazy and spread all over me. This did not do that. If it had been poison ivy it would have spread with the shower and that didn't happen. This was itchy but it burned. It is getting better slowly.
I am telling you right now I am not going out there again for a looooooooong time and I am worried about Yuki getting all rashy too. He can't get to that area but what if its in the air? This is ridiculous. I felt like I jumped into an asp nest of 30,000.00 asps.

Maybe a plant seed flew in on the wind and grew in your yard, and you guys are horribly allergic to it, but didn't know because you'd never come into contact with it before?

Yikes! I'd poison it and bag it up to get it out. As long as Yuki is kept safe from the nasty weed killer poison. My daughter has a similar reaction if she's anywhere near when I weed whack, but she's highly allergic to grasses. Normally I'm against using any yard chemicals if I can find a way around it, but we had Japanese knotweed that could have gone through the foundation of the house when I moved in. It took 3 years of poisoning to kill it.

If you can, maybe take a clipping to your local nursery to identify what it is. Nature has recently created some super hardy invasive vines up here. Covered in thorns. If it's something really bad, like the knotweed, the local government might even have resources to help dispose of it.

The knotweed was considered an invasive non-native species of noxious weed and helped me lots with eradicating it.

If I could share my Immunity of Poison Ivy and Poison Oak I would. I have seen how bad it can get on people.

Well this isn't a poison ivy or poison oak reaction as I have had those and know the rash. This was something really awful. We have blisters now, but the cortisone took the redness away. No itching but it is like the plant actually burned our skin in many places. An actual burn. I have never been through anything quite like it.

I know but I can't find any of those plants in that area. I am so confused. Wait does this look like it? I mean there are not any sticker like things on the straight parts of the plant though?

We also have a lot of this and it is a form of Ivy but I am not sure what. I was cutting a lot of this up.

I think that is a Type of Poison Sumac

@tulagirl if it qill make you feel better I have a funny story involving bullies and Poison sumac, and poison Ivy.

@tulagirl Calamine lotion works good on that stuff we have it in Alabama bad.

Okay I am going out there with a flame throwing and I am going to kill it all ROFLOL. Wait no, I need to wear a special suit first and I will try not to burn the house down baaaaa. Honestly, I don't know what I am going to do.

Try putting a black or dark tarp over it the sun will heat it up and hopefully kill it. Then you could spray it with some kinda of weed killer. Just a idea.

also it it really itches soak in a bath of backing soda or epison salt. It worked wonders for my dad and use calamine lotion and if you can take it Benadryl.

@tulagirl just be really careful I have seen cases get so bad they had to go to the Hospital so be very careful.
