And how long have you been collecting?

My husband and I were at a yard sale a little over a year ago, and they had a bunch of the G3 ponies. One set was $5 for around 25 ponies - the other set was $3 for a Twinkle Twirl Dance Studio with 5 ponies.

I grabbed both sets, and was immediately hooked!

I remember having a seahorse when I was a child - I got it for Christmas at my grandmothers house.

Seeing all of those ponies at the yard sale brought back that memory, and at that moment I decided I would start collecting the My Little Ponies.
:)

I am not so much into the G1's or G2's. I really love the G3's.

And as odd as it sounds, I have no desire to get a seahorse - even though I did have one as a child.

What made you decide to start collecting ponies? And how long have you been at it?

I am curious - being a newbie, sorry if this post is a repeat.
:rose3:

I had G1's growing up and sadly most of my ponies were thrown away except for my merry treats. Couple of years ago, about 6-7, i was doing valentine's day shopping and i noticed a Care Bear card and i was like in awe "Omg, Care bears! i remember them!" so when i got home i looked up all 80's toys and there was My Little Pony, i could just stoked cause i loved them so much! i went on ebay just to see if people sold them, and ever since then i've been a collector.

collecting

I was working in a toy store in my first year of uni and I saw some wrapping paper with some G2 ponies on. It got me to thinking about the ponies from my childhood. I decided that the next sunday I should go to the local car boot to search for some ponies and I found about 8 of them!
Then I stared mooching around ebay and had a right laugh there!

On a horse forum I go on someone posted a custom... thats when I started looking at and for My Little Pony's, I found Wish A Whirl at a flea market and started collecting... I have been collecting since... October of last year...

mine was finding a g3 sparkleworks in target in 2003. i fell in love and bought her. i re-found her and my childhood ponies about 2 years ago and NEEDED more ;)

I had been seeing G3s for a while and wanting them.. but not buying them..Came across a G3 in a thrift store and got her.. Still didn't start collecting, just had her on my desk for a bit.

Then I found a NM G1 Tuneful at a thrift store around March 1st of that year...and I've been collecting ever since! I had ponies as a kid and didn't play with them a lot.. but still liked them. Now I love my gals.. and will soon be reunited with my childhood ponies too!

MLP was my favorite childhood toy and I loved the show but unfortunately I outgrew them and gave them all away :( I rediscovered them a couple years back and have a growing collection of G1 babies and a few twinkle eyes as well :)

I never really stopped collecting ponies after my childhood... I bought the gen2 as soon as they got released. I think they totally pulled me back into collecting; I really liked them, no matter how different they were :)
When I got internet in 2000 though, I instantly started searching for ponies and I found the pony community after a few tries. I remember the first ponies I bought- SS Paradise and baby North Star.

I had a whole bunch of ponies when i was a kid and my mother threw them all out except for 6. In 2000, i discovered e bay and the original mlptp..been collecting ever since:wow1:

I saved all of my mlps from when I was a kid and about 2 years ago I thought that I should give them to one of my daughters and just for the fun of it I checked on the swedish ebay to see if there was any ones there and after just a few minutes I realized that I really shouldnt give my MB Sunburst to a kid ;) After that I bought a sad looking Pretty Beat and then I was hooked!

I believe it all started when I was 13 adn found my old ponies from attic. After that I wanted to collect them, but didn't know how, and it took two years before my collecting started. I was 15 and I went to find my old ponies again, and I founf the Finnis ponyforum. Then it all started. I started buying ponies from friends and from internet. :)

I really just wanted to get back the ponies that I had as a kid. At first, they were the only ones that I sought out. Although there were so many on ebay. I was actually surprised that there were so many being sold. I didn't realize that collecting MLPs was such a big thing back then. After I got all the ones that I and my sisters had as kids, it was too late...I was hooked. I have been buying ever since. lol

Here's the shortened version of my sad pony story:

Had my childhood (G1) ponies until 2003. My mom decided to marry some guy she met on the internet, sell her house and moved cross country to live with him. She left her house full of *stuff* and left me to deal with the realtor. Cleaning out the house was going really slow, as I was 7 months pregnant and working 2 jobs) so the realtor suggested an estate cleaning service as it was close to settlement - I agreed and a date was set. However, the date the realtor gave me was the wrong date and much to my dismay the cleaners had come while I was at work, before I was able to get the things I wanted. I was never able to track them down and get any of the stuff back. I am just thankful that I had taken all my grandmother's china before they came.

For a long time I was very bitter about losing my childhood toys (also lost an irreplacable custom built dollhouse). About 2 years ago, I decided to start replacing the MLP collection - and so, here I am.

Ahhh, so sad you lost your ponies:-( Glad to hear that you are replacing them!:D

What made me start collecting was when I got some G1s form the local thrift store ( cotton candy, baby sleep tight ,my first!, baby glory and baby moondancer.) and when i identified
them, I saw all sorts of fun ponies! ( baby wooly ( I'm a sheep lover , too bad I don't have a baby wooly, Sea ponies:D, and all the other fun stuff.) I was like'' WOW" and I was hooked. You can go to my profile and see my collection. I even had Ducksoup and Twinkles the cat and I didn't know it!
