I often struggle deciding what ponies to customise, with the mind I'd sell.
What's everyone's preference.. G1? G3? other?

I like making them with G1, but I like all generations that other people make.

I want to go with Skybreeze on the g5 customs. I would love to see more g2 customs, too, but I know the ponies can be htf.

As the custom artist, G5 fashion size is hands down the best and easiest to work with.
Really? I've been put off on them because I've heard their mane and tails are hard to get to (though maybe that's just the standard size ones). If they are easy to work with, I'm definitely going to have to try it out.

The only reason I haven’t is not wanting to buy a new one and dismantle it.

It’s the smaller ones that have soils bodies that people have a difficult time with.

I did make a post about the process and how easy it was here. ;)

I’ve been lucky and have gotten a lot through thrifting and lots from people.

If you are looking to sell, G1 customs typically sell better and easier than any other generation.

Is that what you used for Beth's custom AJ? By the way I asked her about it at PFF and she was so excited about it and said it looked like a Hasbro original.

I actually prefer to work with G3's, mainly because their poses are so much more personable and I can find a pose that would reflect the theme/personality of the custom I'm working on.

But for sales/buying, I do prefer to buy G1's, since that's what I collect mostly.

I've never customised a G2, but I know I will soon to see how it works out for me.
I've done a small G4 figure, and it's great with the solid bodies!

I would love to see more G2 customs, but I understand why they're in short supply.
I like G3 poses a lot. They are versatile.

I have never customized ponies, but I own a lot of them. My favorite G1 poses tend to be harder to come by (flutters, SHS, BB, NT) than standard baby or adult ponies, so it's always a tough call. I like the HQG1 molds, but there is something about them that is ... not quite right. Maybe my mind is just biased toward them? The plastic or weight or...something? Feels off.
I own several of them. And I like them. They just... are a little weird to me.

excellent feedback!

I haven't quite seen an HQG1 to judge how they feel, but I imagine they're like Basic Fun? Hard bodied? I think I deviate a bit away from customising them because they aren't "originals"?

I have a blank from them in your box, so you'll have hands on one soon enough. Maybe you can tell me what's weird about them :p
Maybe it is nothing. I dunno.
Anyways, I got a great deal on Ebay - 4 glitter flutter bodies (I love flutters), and a glitter unicorn, for 40 bucks. I figured I could send one along to you as an option. I am sending a truly baity G2 and baby as well. :)

Yay! I can't wait to see them! I got plans for you with them!

I think the HQG1C bases don't have as much definition as a real G1 pony. The plastic feels different too. Its just that a G1 needs to be completely beyond repair for me to consider customising it. It makes me feel guilty otherwise XD

I think g4 is actually quite fun to work with for customs :blossom: They’re smaller so they don’t take too much time for rerooting and they take up less space on the shelf.
I’d love to try on some g1 s but I haven’t come across many that I think are in bad enough shape to customize lol
As for g3, I have several to try but haven’t gotten around to them yet

How do y'all feel about sea pony customs? Are they cool, or weird? I've been seeing a lot of them lately, and I truly can't decide.
