What evil lurks inside the bodies of G1s

That Mimic was nasty. I just cleaned a SHS Ruby Lips and something fleshy fell out. She had real bad tail rust and I know what a washer looks like and brother that wasn't it! It was like an orangy ribbon of a mushroom consistency nearly the length of my pinkie. No lie!! I wanted to show someone, but there wasn't anyone around. That's probably the worst I've found.

YUCK!!!!!!!! I've just eaten my breakfast but I think I may be about to see my Bran Flakes once again. Fleshy???? Argh!!!! Mushroom???? Eek!!!!!!!! I am ill.

Awww, sorry, guys...but you know you really wanted to see it. LOL!

This is why I smell all my ponies...sounds crazy, I know, but you can learn by smell which ones have the toxic mold thing going on. You can also hold them against a bright light sometimes to see if there's an internal coating in there. Generally, if it smells nasty, it's mold, and if it's just a coating, it's rust.

In my own yucky (though not Mimic-yucky) cleaning yesterday, I found a dead bug inside the holes in Skippity Doo's feet while I was finishing up the deflocking (btw, thanks, crafty demona -- I love my baity ponies!) The dead bug grossed me out more than the mold -- sad but true.

I've only had one or two that were really bad (mold wise) and none of them had mushrooms! I would have lost my lunch right there if it had been me!
I've had a lot of rusty ponies including these girls:

North Star and Lickety were so rusty their hair look blonde!

It may sound like a silly question, but how do you open up a pony for cleaning? I don't want to damage mine, but I'm sure some of my childhood ones could use a good scrub out

Hot water and a good twist usually does the trick on the older ones. Some can be pretty tough, though, and the plastic may give before the glue does. If you're unsure, or you think the pony is okay, I'd say leave the heads glued on. I only open the ones I know have mold, rust, or need rehaired. (If you are afraid, I do pony cleanings just for the price of their ride home -- it gives me something to do, lol.)

The seals on mine are all solidly intact, and I'm pretty sure that any discolouration on the outside is caused by ingrained play-dirt rather than interior mold. Plus there's no funny smell (they actually all still smell like new for the most part) so I think I might be fine leaving them as is after all.

Interesting thread ^^ I know I've found yucky things I wish I hadn't...but what don't we do for the love of our ponies? :hearts: Can't remember who had the worst mold but I know the worst rust pony! That was Vlinder (Butterfly-Pony), she was covered in rust on the inside, and her tailwasher was so rusty it had come to pieces which were quite difficult to get out of her tail I'll tell you!

That Mimic wasn't for the faint of hearts either *shiver* ladyphoenix did she become as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside? :)

Indeed, she is pretty clean inside now. She had some mold that was actually growing under the plastic like little zits, and those did not come out, but the rest of it...

And what is it with me and dead bugs? I found another one this morning -- this time totally intact -- hanging out of the pony's neck seal. *gags*

How terrible I would be so scared if one of my ponies looked like that

Man, LadyPhoenix, that looks terrific now! I think I have some ponies that have this rattle inside them- but it's not a loose tail washer rattle- it sounds more like a... degraded washer rattle- like lots of little oxidized pieces of the washer are rattling around when I shake the pony. I, for the life of me, cannot remove the head of this FT Baby Lickity Split. I might have to go for the x-acto knife..

The horrors!

So I started looking through my herd, and noticed my Heart Throb is kind of a funky color. Sort of a grayish tint to her. I peeked inside her neck seam, and lo and behold....

She's filthy inside. I guess it's mold, or mildew, or rust, or all 3! I've got her soaking with clorox cleaner inside. She's already looking much better.

hi

Who knows what we will find inside our ponys, now i am curious and wondering if i should go look at mine or not?

:eek:verlord:

Ugh. That reminds me of this one time when I decided to open a particularly grungy Love Melody to give her a new washer. (she had tail rust from ****!) I opened her up and a bunch of black and rust-colored dust poured out of her! Not to mention she smelled awful. The washer was almost completely disintegrated, I had to pick the individual pieced out of her hair. >.< Never got the tail rust out either.
