Aw, darn. Went to target the other day only to look at the new merch, didn't even buy anything. And, for all of you who are wondering, I asked an employee about who will get the Celestia backboard and they said they have to throw it away or send it back to Hasbro for destruction because it's licensed. Such a pretty picture, getting thrown away.

I went to target today and found the new canterlot display! wasn't really interested in any of the celestia/luna stuff, but i did find lily blossom and cheerilee. excited to find those two, but dissapointed that there wasn't a ton more.

there was a twilight sparkle stuffed pony.... dude... it was really ugly. those little pug like noses the G4s have do not translate into cute plushies.

How does target discard cardboard?
I know Kohls had a compactor that smashed cardboard...

I hear some stores will let you have it if you are around when they are taking it down. I wish I was brave enough for that. ); Tho', I would dumpster dive for one. XD I'm probably just doomed to vector, print and cut my own.

I have worked retail before. So unless security is watching the disposal. That many of those cardboard cutouts will mysteriously vanish. So years from now we may see some of the displays on auction sites.
Yes I know this brings you no comfort. (Maybe a glimmer of hope for black marked cardboard cut outs?)

Maybe smart employees are grabbing them.

Ofcourse smart and sneaky employess are taking off with them. I was just trying to tell that some will be saved. Sadly most will wind up on childrens walls unprotected and pinned with tacks or nails.
But it would be nice if customers could nab or buy them.

I wish I could get that throw they have. If it wasn't so pink and expensive XD

WHAT?! I want it so bad, but I don't know where I'd put it. I just went to Target today and didn't get anything, but I'm going back tomorrow, hopefully I'll snatch something. I KNOW no employees will take it because I live in a very rural area and there aren't very many employees at that teeny Target and maybe 1 other collector in a 300 mile range. Sad that such a beauty will be destroyed.... Guess I'll be dumpster diving soon... ;)

My luck has been outstanding lately, I think I'll ask them tomorrow... Our Target is pretty rinky-dinky.. they're not going to care.

Just to let you all know as I've done retail before as well. If an item is discarded in the dumpster (such as the cardboard display you are mentioning) and you take it, it is still considered stealing from the store. They do have cameras and you may get caught and have charges brought against you...

Also, if you an an employee and take something from the dumpster, you can get fired!

Just something for you all to consider before diving in for a piece of pretty cardboard.

I actually like the idea of them winding up on children's walls, unprotected, pinned and all. This is a new generation of MLP lovers we are seeing being born. They deserve to have them on their walls!

Let's not forget, we were all kids once and how else will this community thrive in the future without new collectors? That cutout on some little girls wall is going to leave a lifelong imprint, most likely a very happy one.

I would be saddened more to see them wind up on ebay for exorbitant prices where they would more than likely be snatched up by bronies that will cherish them less than the children would and in 5 years, probably toss them in the trash.

When I worked at the mall, I used to take all sorts of lovelies from the dumpster. They once left perfectly good clothing racks by the dumpster too and I never got in trouble.

It is a shame they'll be destroyed. I work for kohls and our dumpsters have cameras on them 24/7. Even if our in store loss prevention person isn't there, our corporate offices are watching. There's no way to get in our dumpters though, they are covered compactors and I'm sure target's are probably similar.

Since they are possibly sending them back to hasbro, we could always ask that they save a few to raffle off at the pony fair or use as "art" prizes for people who win the art or custom contests. I think that would be awesome. I'll probably go back and take a picture of it soon, it is really pretty:)

Just a thought fair staff;)
