Hi everyone. Please bear with me, trying to wobble around this site which seems very friendly and pleasant, but having trouble with the lingo and abbreviations etc! I’m having a cleanout and have decided I would like to sell my MLP toys from my childhood. I was born in 1980 so I think that makes them mostly G1?
They were played with a lot so are in a condition you would expect for that and are a bit dusty from being stored, but I never cut any of their hair and our house was always smokefree. There are 30-40 of them and a heap of accessories - clothes and hair stuff etc. I have no idea of most of their proper names and what they are worth - I kinda just want them to go to a good home and don’t want to spend several evenings figuring out a value as I have real horses and children (boys! Hence no need for keeping my collection!) now that I’m supposed to be an adult.
Can someone tell me where to start? Or if they are at all interested? I would really prefer to sell them as a bulk lot. I’m in New Zealand but happy to package them and post anywhere.
Many thanks in advance!

Pm you

Hello! We'd be happy to help you here! If you can post a few photos of what ponies you have, we can help you ID them, and even suggest how much some may be worth. Please try to make sure to get pictures of the ponies on their sides, so their symbols are visible, as that makes IDing ponies a lot easier.

There are also sites you can go to help for IDing and pricing. (Unfortunately one of the best G1 ID sites has gone down :< ) For IDing ponies, there's Ponyland Press. It's mostly a photo catalogue type page, so you'd have to scroll through each year and group to try and find the pony that matches the one you have, but at least it's a good resource. For pricing ponies, Blue Rose's G1 Ebay Price Guide is a fantastic place to check out.

If you have any questions about selling, lingo, terms, etc... just ask! Someone here will be able to answer you. :)

Awesome thanks heaps. Ok thanks for the help with ID! I have got names now for all but two. It’s bringing back cool memories having them out! They’re pretty much all I played with when I was little. It’s weird finding out their proper names as I made up my own names for them haha. They are really dusty, what should I wipe them with??

The ones I have are:
Posey
Sherbert
Cotton Candy
Peachy x 2
Powder
Boysenberry Pie
Starflower
Sparkler
Crunch Berry
Peppermint Crunch
Moonstone
Magic Hat
Bow-Tie
Sunlight

And two I haven’t identified yet- I took photos of their symbols and will try figure out how to add them 2540925410

And there’s a bunch of baby ones I haven’t started on yet but I will have to come back to you guys with those!

The white and pink one is Sundance and that last one is an alternate birthflower, who I’m assuming is November Chrysanthemum :) Seems like you’ve got quite a few gems on your hands there!

Righto thanks everyone for your help so far. I was too embarrassed to put up any proper photos earlier as the poor things were so dirty - they’ve been in a plastic tub with no lid for over 20y. I would love your help with the baby ponies please. I watched some YouTube video with loud Enya music on giving them a bath so they have had just a basic wash and some conditioner but I have not combed their hair and they are still wet in the photos. The final one I know isn’t a MLP but I would like her to go with them too as I remember I loved her just as much as the rest!

And here are some accessories. These were in sealed containers so they are fairly clean already but would still need a wash as were played with a lot before storage. My nana was a sewer so there is a chance some of the clothes and maybe the pink pillow were made by her, please let me know what’s not official and I’ll remove it! It was easy to pick out what I had sewn myself haha!

Thanks for the help Wind Whistler! Yeah my birthday is in November so the birthflower makes sense. She was one of my faves. Here’s some pics of her now that she’s clean! There’s a mark by her right hand symbol that I’m assuming has transferred of the glittery symbol on the pony that was packed next to her. I haven’t tried to get it off other than the scrub with soapy water. I figure whoever get them can have a more educated go at that.

For the babies, they are:

earth pony (simply 'earth' from now on), pink body, pink hair, "ABC" = newborn twin Doodles
pegasus, yellow body, purple hair, "safety pins" = newborn twin Bunkie
pegasus, purple body, yellow hair, "safety pins" = newborn twin Speckles
pegasus, white body, blue hair, "crayons" = peek-a-boo baby Graffiti
earth, white body, blue hair, "ballet slippers" = beddy-bye-eye Sleepy Pie
earth, teal body, pink hair, "rattle" = baby Cuddles
earth, yellow body, white hair, "paper dolls + scissors" = peek-a-boo baby Snippy
unicorn, purple body, white hair, "bunny" = peek-a-boo baby Noddins
earth, purple body, white hair, "flowers" = baby Blossom
earth, pink body, dark pink hair, "doll" = peek-a-boo baby Sweet Stuff
earth, white body, pink hair, tiny, "rattle" = teeny tiny baby Little Whiskers

Whoops missed some. The bottom corners of the blanket are torn or chewed off. Also I realised the golden coloured brush was from my Princess of Power set. Any advice on the best place to sell this please? Included a pic here so you can see what’s there.

Thanks so much! That’s a great help, would have taken me ages!

Last few hair accessories that were hiding somewhere else as I used to wear them in my own hair at university haha. And that’s a wrap.

So I haven’t yet taken any individual photos of the adults. Main damage I can see so far:

-Magic Hats symbol has patches missing and is all brown around the edges. Her white is pretty “dirty” even tho I gave her a basic scrub. Not sure how much more would come off.
-Baby Sleepy Pie’s symbols are very smudged/faded. Her eyes seem to open and close as they are supposed to.
-Sherbert is missing some hair at the roots at the top of her mane/back of the forelock. She is the only one visibly missing hair.
-Sundance has some smudged upper right eyelashes/top of her eye- like maybe acetone was on there??
A lot of the adults have hair that is frizzed to some extent in some places, mostly at the base of their tail. I have not tried to even comb any of their hair or do anything (other that some conditioner when they were washed) so far. The baby ponies have overall very good hair I think. Please note that all ponies still had wet hair when all of my pics posted so far were taken.
A few of the adults have my name that my mum wrote real tiny in permanent marker on the bottom of one front foot. No other pen marks that I can see.
I don’t recall trimming any of their hair but it’s a long time ago and if I did trim anything I must have done a tidy job.. Can measure if you need me to? One of the newborn twins has way shorter hair than the other, not sure if that’s how they are meant to be.
Happy to answer more questions and take more photos, just ask. Please remember I’m a newbie so you’ll have to dumb it down for me. I’m busy for the next day or two but I will check back in after that and answer any posts and messages. Thanks those that have helped so far!

In case no one else has said this yet, the alternate birth flower pony you have should be worth a good chunk of money. Not sure the price they go for, but they are difficult to find and were only released in certain areas.
Thanks Thimble Bright! Yeah I had a wee google after the ID was made and saw they were fairly scarce but haven’t found much at all on value apart from a thread on this site from 2005 and two people reckoned 150-250ish? I don’t seem to be able to find any past listings for anything at all on EBay, don’t know if it’s user error as I’m not overly familiar with EBay. BlueRose’s price list is impressively comprehensive but I couldn’t find her on there. Interested to know other’s thoughts when they have time to check in? And should I change my name on this site to Alternate November Chrysanthemum!?! Seems a bit of a mouthful

I'd say that sounds like a good price estimate still. I would advise selling her separately (you could always do an auction!) or with some of the more common ponies.

I also agree with that price range as an estimate. Because the alternate birth flowers don't come up frequently, it is difficult to know for sure. It will come down to when you sell and who is looking for one at the time. Definitely list her for sale seperately, you will get the best price that way.

Thanks guys that’s awesome. Ok I’ll do what you suggest and sell her separately- can I do an auction on here? I’m not registered on EBay or anything and if someone gives me a reasonable price on here it’s much easier for me. There’s a few small items someone has said they’re keen on, but other than that I’d want to sell the rest as a bulk lot please.
