Very first MLP drawing

So, I consider myself an *okay* artist, but drawing equines has always been difficult for me. I decided to try my hand at drawing some My Little Pony art. All digital, drawn on my tablet.

I'm not very happy with the results to be honest. I can't put my finger on it but something looks off to me. Any critique, tips and suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.

As for the character, its just an original I scribbled up.

Awww..I think she looks nice! Not bad at all..

It is cute. So much better then anything I could hope to do. Do like how you colored it. There is something about the hip / rump / nearest back leg that seems a little off. Can't quite figure out what exactly but there's something there that doesn't seem to 'flow' as well with the rest of the image.

she's pretty cute! I may have started the mane a little further back into her head though... something about the length makes the back ear seem detached in my head. The face is really cute, the only other thing I might change is make her nose a little smaller. I wonder how that would look?

Wow very good work!

Thanks all. :D I may retouch it and try moving the mane back and making the nose a bit smaller.

I think it looks great! I can't draw anywhere near as good!

I like the coloring style. For future works, I'd probably slim the neck where it joins the head, either increase the size of the withers or decrease the rump, fill out the stomach area so the ribcage isn't so prominent, and on the back legs, make it a straight line in the rear from the hock down to keep the look of the toys. Fetlocks are pretty much nonexistent in MLPs. You will probably need to adjust the size of the head as you work, as you said.

I don't know how much you were hoping to catch the MLP toys, but the way the head and face looks reminds me more of a fakie. It's probably something with the eyes (I think I've seen fakies with eyes like that.) Or maybe it's the grin and the overbite. I'd also move the nostrils so they are more to the side, instead of both on the end of the muzzle. That should help with the fakie-look.

You should probably check out the anatomy of a real horse and see how that translates to the MLP toys if you want to understand why things go together as they do on the toys. G1 and original G3 molds were fairly good on translating real horse anatomy to brightly colored fantasy critters.

(People so rarely ask for real help and critique on their drawings, and then when they ask, they never seem to get it. I hope this was what you were looking for, saevitia.)

Oh I love it a lot! She is very cute! Iv'e drawn all my life and the only flaw I see is just where the waist gets so small, it makes the butt appear very large. That is how a real horse looks so you did very well, but the waist butt ratio on an MLP never seems that prominent :)

your drawing is so cute!! You did a great job with the shading too!
