I bought some bait ponies from a local seller the other day who'd had her childhood ponies in the attic for ages. Most of them were pretty dingy, but I noticed that three of them had hair in "Fading Pink" with no sign of... well, fading. Lickety Split's body condition made her a guaranteed piece of custom bait, but Milkweed and Tumbleweed are in really nice shape. Granted, I didn't think "hm, maybe these would be better appreciated in the hands of collectors" until I'd worked their heads off, which has got to take something out of the value even if I reattach them. Are there collectors out there who prioritize original condition Fading Pink hair?

...also, I'm pretty sure I've got it figured out from reference images of their poses, but I'd also like help making sure the heads get back on the right bodies. Did NOT stop and think about how they were identical when I was removing the heads.

Hi @feelysonheelys, could you show us photos of the ponies? It's a bit hard to tell with descriptions alone. ;)
Certainly-- though as I said, I opened them up while I was cleaning the baits, so here's the relevant parts. I really try not to feel like Sid from Toy Story with this whole process!

It's worth noting that even dingy ponies can generally clean up and be restored beautifully ;) I'm a collector who values unfaded pink hair, by the way. It's so hard to find. Even if the pony's body is ruined beyond repair (which is what it sounds like your Lickety Split's is, from your description), customizers and restorers can still use the hair, for sure.

Custom baits always have a value ;) Even if it's just pony body parts, they have value in the hands of customizers/etc.

As for the mixed up baby heads, I'm not sure. You might have to put them back on and see if one has even the slightest better fit than the other one.

Thanks! I guess I'm just figuring out if they would be put to better use by me or someone else. Frankly, I'd be afraid to use the hair-- if I have a design in mind that I want pink hair for, I'd like something that will last above something authentic, and if I wanted to use white hair... well, I'd be destroying a perfectly good pigment. Since these two aren't rare, maybe I'll remove the hair without cutting and sell it on here.

In my personal opinion, I think you should sell them with the hair still in, and let the buyer deal with removing it ;) You won't have much luck taking a mane out intact, I'm afraid.
I've actually done it before-- I extract the individual plugs and pull from the inside. I've saved and reused hair with this method quite a few times. The residual glue comes off very easily, since it's dried hard instead of remaining sticky (couldn't try that with a Monster High doll to be sure). I'd like to use the ponies, it's the hair that I want to go to a good source.

On this same vien of conversation, I hope its okay for me to ask a question about the same thing? My childhood Lickety Split still has her original pink hair (ive kept her wrapped up in the dark ever since i found out about it yearssss ago) but her body has discolored from her head a bit, otherwise no issues with her vinyl. Would she be considered valuable even with the discoloration? I mean shes valuable to me bc ive worked hard to keep her hair pink but this makes me wonder everyone elses stance on good hair but head body color mismatch?

Lickety split and posey are so common that they aren’t really worth that much… that said, I would pay double for the original hair still pink. I had a ss twilight with hair still pink. Should never have let her go.

Note: I am not an expert. I’m only offering a personal opinion based on what I have seen.
