I say again, urgghh!
My friend is at a convention currently and she said there was some ponies there that she wanted to show me, but i couldnt afford to go so she bought them for me, AND GOT WAY OVERCHARGED! D:
I am paying her back, so i also got overcharged, but argh i hate people who try and rip you off! When they get away with it, its even worse! Dx
The ponies she got are a 3.5 Cheerilee and G4 Newborn Sweetie Belle plush, the Cheerilee was $4 and the Sweetie Belle was $12, and for second hand toys thats so expensive! :madpony:

I dunno, im sure everyone has experienced either being ripped off or having a friend or loved one being ripped off trying to do something nice for you.
It really irks me. :<
Anyone else have something they want to get off their chest?

Yeah I've had something like this too, I enjoy going thrift store hunting for ponies, as well as the markets, and well, people just overprice ponies! There was an old lady at the markets selling g3's, which I wanted because they are cute and needed some TLC (seriously, they were baits), and she wanted $4, PER PONY. They were only worth 50 cents at the most, and she was there every week, and not a pony got sold.
If they were like new then yeah why not, but hair cuts and pen marks and stinking bad and whatnot, I think they're hella overpriced...
And your friend sounds so nice and I'm super mad she got charged more than she should have! :madpony:

There's a guy who is EXACTLY like that at my local market!!
I always feel ripped off, but if he has a pony I want I can't help it. There's another market I go to with a lady who has nicer ponies, but they're $5 and up!
Both of these stall owners sell lots of other toys but never cut me any slack. :<

I hate when people think all ponies are priceless antiques or something! There are some baity ponies that I wanted on eBay that were WAY overpriced. :madpony: everyone thinks that just because they don't make them any more means they're worth millions :( but yeah, I know that feel, bro, I know it well!

I hear ya! There's a beautiful Nightglider on Etsy right now that is going for $42. I'd go as high as maybe $25, and I even paid $27 once for an almost perfect Lemon Treats, but $42?! No way! That pony would sell in a heartbeat if the price got lowered, but it's been sitting online untouched for weeks now. I don't even feel comfortable making an offer because the set price is so high and my offer would seem insulting. That really stinks that your friend and you got overcharged :(

This is what happened to me last week: saw a Snowflake and two other common Hongkong ponies in fair condition (little tail rust here and there though) on an auction site. Made an offer for €1,50 - €2,00 a piece, thought it was very fair, there was no opening bid or even an asking price. A few hours later I received a furious e-mail from the seller: how did I even dare to make such an offer! Did I think he was a fool?
He demanded €10,00 for each pony, otherwise he would charge gas money and other expenses like money for packaging on top of the shipping costs.
As you can imagine, I was perplexed by this reaction! Send an e-mail back in which I told him that I didn't like his tone and that I'd expected a more professional reaction on an opening bid. I also told him that I'd lost interest in ever doing business with him again and wished him all the best in future sales and enterprises.
I don't think he had the intelligence to understand the irony of that last sentence though, the ponies have remained unbid on the auction site till this day...

I've left behind ponies at all sorts of places. One place all the ponies I saw at the top of a bag were overpriced at $8 each, as almost all the ponies were super common and had massive flaws. Asked if she could cut me a deal for the entire bag as I've had great luck with that tactic in the past- "$8 times 15" she had fifteen ponies, so no was the answer, she was pretty nasty about it too. So dug a little and managed to find a Redroses that wasn't caked in rust and grime. I smiled a little inside, gave the lady my $8 and left. I NEVER felt guilty when I scooped up "cheap" rare items mixed in with overpriced commons at her booth.

Best was a guy in the 90's that wanted over $30 each for a beddy bye eye baby and a cotton candy (also in downright GROSS condition, ink, rust, mold, frizz the works) he tried to tell me my little pony was VERY limited and VERY rare and there wasn't many made after those two! LOL. Told him "if that's the case, I'm sitting on a gold mine! I have hundreds!"

I have to chuckle over eBay at times when it comes to "Rare HTF Pony" on Cotton Candy, Peachy and the like. The prices are ridiculous. However, if you want to see some really high prices, go to Amazon.com! I've seen G3 ponies with prices of $80, $90 even $100! A McDonald's pony was advertised at $20 and Berry Pickin' Butterscotch was $200!!:shockpony:

At a local flea market there is a booth that always has ponies, and always priced at $6-8 per pony and most are very common. But I did get lucky once and find a TE Bright Eyes mixed in for $8 in great condition so I snatched her up and laughed my way out of there. She can keep her overpriced commons, but I always check her booth waiting for her to make another mistake.

Wow! Serves him right, I hope they never sell! Who treats a potential customer like that?! :shockpony: I can't believe how many times people fail to do any research before pricing their ponies!

Lol :winkpony:

I, too, hate seeing overpriced ponies. You have to be careful about these things. Tell your friend to call you next time and describe the ponies to you before buying them.

I recently saw a Ploomette on Ebay go for $40 when a couple of months ago it was only $10. I really regret not buying that pony when it was much cheaper.

That makes me happy I found a grimy (but easily cleaned) Applejack for 50 cents. She was $1.50 but marked to 50 cents. I imagine if they had clean ones they'd still probably be a dollar.

Anyways, expensive ponies. A guy at an anime convention was selling 2012 McDonald's ponies for $5.00 each... Outrageous, when I find them on the Trading Post for $1.50, or yes, even 25 cents!

*Sees ponies*
"Oh cool! How much for the My Little Ponies?"
"$5.00 each"
*EYES WIDE*
"Oh... Okay... *Silence* "Um, are you serious?"
"Yes. People want them" He seriously had a GARBAGE BAG full of ponies!
*Walks away without saying anything*
Someone out there is going to buy them...

Funny thing is he was also selling Happy Meal Toys Pikachu, also for $5.00, when I just bought one at another booth for 50 cents.

Told him "if that's the case, I'm sitting on a gold mine! I have hundreds!"

Hahah, i bet that put him in his place! It does also annoy me when sellers go on about how "rare" and "hard to find" they are, even if they dont know, they know for sure that what theyre saying may or may not be true, and say it anyway! :shockpony:

That is ridiculous! Theyre worth $2 at the most in their bag, because here McDs sells their toys for $2.
I hope he didnt sell any!

Same thing happens with Barbies! People list 90s Barbies as vintage/60s because: 1 any Barbie with the turning waist is dated 1967 which is when the twist waist was patented/copyrighted/whatever 2 they didn't bother researching. They're also often 'htf' &/or rare. Oh and same happens with vintage clothes...just about anything really. I chuckle too.

With G4 ponies, an easy thing for china eBay sellers to do is bet on the impatience of us pony fans... I remember this summer, I saw the GORGEOUS pink glittery Celestia brushable, which I had never seen anywhere else, so I eagerly dished out $16 for, thinking that she wasn't going to get released or something.

So dumb! You can get her, Luna, and Cadence in stores now $20 for the set, including cute accessories.

Patience is a virtue...

Also, at Canterlot Gardens this year, there was a guy (who I personally dislike just for the way he runs his handmades business, but that's another story) who was selling a ton of the G4 toys for disgusting prices. $40 Zecora, $15 sets of 3 minis (like the cloudsdale set), $10 wave 5 singles.

People bought them, too! It was so frustrating to watch him rake in money for them, since you could just drive down the street and get that stuff for half the price at the store. Ugh.

Wow, a lot of these people seem like jerks.

Though I wonder how many people out there price things THINKING they were collectibles, but have no knowledge on the prices of ponies or not. I mean, you could always try to haggle with a justification, right??

Maybe I'm naive.

Hehe- with the dude, he was nice about it, and I was cheerful right back my response my voice sounding like I won a little lotto jackpot.

HoboCakes- I find it's easier to haggle fairly now with some more modern tech. When people say "I see mlp's on ebay for more then this" I make an offer that's fair for a local find and what the item is and condition, explain that I am a collector that does most of her buying on ebay. If need be show them what those items sold for on ebay with a smartphone. I also explain those ebay sellers pay a high % towards all the fees, so they don't keep those full selling prices. People have usually happily accepted my offers (hello, cash!) and thanked me for my honesty, or kept chatting and asking more pony questions.

Yeah, I had deleted half of my post that went on about using smartphones to show the sellers a comparative price online for great conditioned ponies and to explain what a bait pony was and why theirs was considered as much.

But then I thought I sounded stupid and deleted it.

I mean, that method could go good or bad. You could have sellers who will be willing to negotiate based on the knowledge you had on ponies, and others, as we've seen examples of in the thread, who will yell at you about your price offer.
