I got a box of ponies and came a Bowtie. I already have one so I compared. I was pretty impressed by the color difference between the two. I’ve honestly never seen another Bowtie with deep bright blue like the one I had since a kid.. I swear they are both vintage, none is retro.

Had to show off. I want to attempt to restore the faded one to be as bright as my original

or am I wrong and one is supposed to be a different shade of blue?

I can guarantee the brighter one has never been restored- it's directly from my childhood collection. Stuffed in a bag in an attic for all of these years lol.

Hooves are identical on both
I corrected it. Mylittlewiki has two releases. I wasn’t doubting you, I promise. Yours both look great.

Yup it definitely looks like both colors! Its super tricky sometimes, Bowties range a lot depending on condition, as Tak said. My childhood Bowtie is a shade almost a perfect mix of both but was originally the darker. Shes been through it lol.

@DracoKat Your childhood Bowtie is gorgeouss!:happyhearts::hearteyes:

So the lighter one might be a curly hair bow tie? I’m still learning about these guys and their history. I feel like a dunce lol. I swear I did try research but it’s confusing! I thought maybe Italian version but the marks are different colors. Oi.

And thank you :)
Theres a good chance shes the curly haired one, looks that way to me. :winkpony: Italian ponies have Italy on their hoof where Hong Kong usually is.

Dont worry haha we all had to figure this stuff out too at some point, that doesnt make you dumb for it. We all learn and keep learning.:purpleheart:

If you checked the hoof marks, then the bright one may have been restored or just taken better care o. I’ve seen bowtie in so many shades.

correction. The curly hair bow tie was a lighter blue and straight hair darker. Here’s the mylittlewiki picture

There is a light version and dark version of Bowtie, but it does not have to do with straight or curly hair. None of the ponies pictured here or in the wiki photo there show a curly-haired Bowtie ;) Please be careful about misinformation.

Agree with Jewel. The curly hair versions (Bowtie and Applejack) with have hair that is a bit longer than the straight hair versions. Assuming the curls is no longer there, that is. And at least with my AJs the mane is on the opposite side of the neck on curly vs straight.

I also think the forelock would not be as distinguished but would be the same length as the rest of the mane, as it too would have been curled. ( But I'd have to get mine out and look at them to verify my memory is accurate here.)

Yes, the curly haired versions of Bowtie, Applejack, Medley, and Firefly have significantly longer hair than their straight-haired counterparts--otherwise there wouldn't be enough length to make the curls ;)

The wiki doesn't have great photos of Bowtie, but here are examples of long/curly-haired Firefly and short/straight-haired Firefly for comparison:

Ohhhh! I apologize if I was wrong! Ive seen the two colors of Bowtie but not very good pictures of the hair since its on the opposite side so I didnt really question it. It seemed like it was a bit curly in one picture? The wiki says (Curly) next to that bowties hair and specifies (straight) for the other. Very confusing. If its not a mistake, perhaps it was curly in the same way as Strawberry Surprise has curls in her short hair?
Edit: Added pictures for ease of looking it up and clarifying haha The one specified as straight hair is a pink bowed one actually. Its a pony mystery! :lolpony:

The wiki is correct. There is a light and dark version of straight-haired Bowtie. Curly-haired Bowtie has so far only been found in one shade (though colors will fade and change over time so there will always be some degree of variation).

All of these Bowties have pink bows as their symbol, sometimes they fade more toward white. ;) No mystery here.

OH!! :O I see!! I thought the wiki had split the two in sections and was specifying each. Okay i see the confusion haha the curly haired is seperate from the two. Thank you for clarifying! :ponylove: I was having a big confuse haha.:lolpony:

Ahh I had no idea the bows were all originally pink.. Someone had told me yearsssss ago the white bows were US bows. Lol my entire life has been a lie!

The curly haired version was always the darker color? I just thought Bow-tie came in two different colors for both types.
As someone mentioned, the longer/curly haired versions in that pose tend to have mane on the inside of the neck instead of the outside, but both of those Bow-ties have mane falling on the outside, which is what I always look for in the straight version (I just prefer it that way, as my childhood 1984 or 1985 AJ and BT both had straight hair). Sometimes, for curly haired ponies, the xtra-long forelock gets styled into the mane. :surprise::barnacle:

I think Basic Fun also made both variants of Bow Tie's colors (not curly hair, though I could be wrong). They also created a variant of Sparkler that is weird to me, but I totally love it. Don't own it tho.

No worries LOL It was quite a long time into my collecting before I even know about dark and light Bowtie!

I have never seen a curly-haired Bowtie in the dark Bowtie color, no. She seems to be in the common lighter color.

Basic Fun does have a lighter and darker variant for some ponies (like Bowtie) but without explanation, like the different Sparklers, which really is rather odd!

That's what I thought-the lighter version is more common. Thanks!

Thanks to this thread, I saw my spare Firefly is a curly hair. I didn’t notice the hair when I removed her tail to donate to another pony and wiped her already faded mark to customize for the future. Now I need to restore her lol. Gotta see if I can find a tail- is firefly’s tail also curly?
