Trimming Help

Hello, I'm working on rerooting my first pony. I've got the hair on and the neck glued to the body and now I'm ready to wash, trim and style. Does any one have tips or a link to a tut on how to trim the mane and tail so that they are layered a bit? I've never trimmed hair (real or fake) before and been able to achieve a layered look. I've come across plenty of tutorials on how to style and set the hair but nothing about the actual trimming.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Barb.

What I do when I'm rehairing a G1 adult to make it look authentic is pull the hair around the neck and trim it even with the cheek on the opposite side, in a straight line (leave a bit extra if you're not sure!). The forelocks get pulled down and clipped at the end of the nose. And the tails I like to twist a time of two, then pull between the legs up to the neck. I clip those even to the neck ring. If it still looks too "perfect," sometimes it helps to take small sections and feather the ends of the hair with your scissors.

I generally eyeball it on G3 manes, but the tails are the same as G1s I think (I've been doing long haired ones lately and can't recall!) If all else fails I'll grab a Hasbro pony in the same pose and sit them side by side as I trim the custom to get it about right and then feather the edges.

I hope that helps a little. :)

Thank you for the response. Your tip for the tail cutting helped out great. I ended up having to eye ball the mane. I left it long just in case I made a mistake. I do have to say that it's surprisingly difficult to cut the nylon strand.
